Having a child that is non verbal can be very hard in school settings. CHILD is supportive with his AAC device and any other resources to make our son successful at school. He is actually in a program that is catered for him as an individual. We feel the school cares about all of their students no matter of what differences their are.

He spent too much time non-educative time in isolation in the Seattle Public Schools and did not learn new skills to help him regulate himself or interact with others. I spent most of every school day at his Seattle elementary school trying to help him get his school work done in his self-contained classroom. The Children's Institute has been a life-saver in terms of allowing him a safe place to learn these skills as well as move on academically. They are able to accept him the way he is and have never called me to come and get him. If he does have outbursts, they are able to staff to allow time for someone to spend time with him out of the classroom without putting him by himself in the "quiet room" Plus, he loves it there! I highly recommend this school if your child is not doing well in a traditional public school due to emotional/behavioral differences.

Andy Smallman went above and beyond in helping me feel heard and offered suggestions for other support in the Seattle area (our son is a 5th grader and not qualified). I will not hesitate to reach out to Spring Academy in the future. Andy called weeks later after our first phone call to check in. His compassion and encouragement is wonderful.

Our student came in feeling discouraged and disconnected from learning. Her experience at Spring built up her confidence and helped her develop independent study skills in a positive environment. Their approach intentionally fosters students to develop motivation from within. The teachers are skilled and patient, meeting the student where they are at and helping them discover their own interests and goals. The administration is communicative, organized, and hands-on. The head of the school, Andy, has a genuine passion for students and their learning experience. While I was a little hesitant about the non-traditional approach when I first heard of Spring, my first conversation with Andy gave me an instant wave of relief. He knew exactly how to help when we were at a loss of how best to do so. Out of the gate, he understood our goals as parents and our student's goals for herself, empathized with challenges we'd experienced, and explained how the structure and curriculum of Spring is designed to nurture students and embrace their strengths. Our student maintained a hybrid schedule between Spring and public school; we started with one class at Spring, but after seeing the improvement all around, shifted more of her core classes over and maintained electives at public school. They were flexible and helped us with all transitions, including helping with credit transfer. What I appreciate most is the shift we saw at home -- no more constant tension over homework, incentives and punishments, disciplined schedules and nagging. Spring stepped in with the kind of support I'd been trying to provide on my own, allowing me to take a giant step back, and our student to take gain independence and ownership of her obligations. We are all breathing easier! Thank you, Spring!

We had about 16 kids from ages 3-8. The lego project is for kids 5years plus which is understandable since those lego pieces are tiny however, with an adult supervision they are ok. Our little lego engineers were building X-Wing with the awesome Justin. He was very patient and approachable to the different age groups. They had such a great time following instruction on how to build their project and fun testing it out. It was such a interactive environment that our children were very engaged and interested in what they were doing. This place is reasonably priced and allow you to bring your party goodies such as pizza, cakes etc. The environment was a lego wonderland. Literally everything built from Legos was just awesome. As a parents this place is totally worth it and I recommend hosting your next birthday party here.

It seems Play Well offers many classes to introduce basic engineering/design concepts for kids after school/during weekends, too. Each 1.5-2 hrs class is about $18-$25 a child,..pretty awesome price in my mind, considering your child will get to socialize with other kids, expand their creativity and allow themselves to emerge in some fun that might eventually spark their interests in STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering and Math) areas over even longer term. They have some fun classes that incorporate other fun ideas like ninja, star wars fun + lego designs for kids, too. Parking is super easy and staff is friendly and knowledgable. Highly recommended as a supplement activity for your kids!
