I usually don't leave reviews but place is not well run or advertised. I paid for twilight golf but got stuck behind a group of 5, waiting at some tee boxes for 10-15 minutes. When it finally got to the back 9 with about 40 minutes left of sunlight I was told by the starter that I'd have to pay for another 9. Triggs Memorial Golf Course - Hole3 - Golf Near Me - Providence, Rhode Island

This was by far the most embarrassing behavior I have ever seen at a golf course. One of the 'workers' at this course came over to me on hole 9 and began to scream in my face and threaten me for about 15 minutes after I drove around the wrong side of the green. Although I didn't follow the perfect "golf cart etiquette," this type of behavior is unacceptable. Using terms such as "mentally crippled" and " you stupid kid" is borderline criminal - especially to a 20 year old . They have lost my business, as it seems they leave lost many because I was the only one there. I even left after the 9th due to this altercation, not a soul in sight besides him. I haven't played here. I booked a tee time with them and the booking service charged me right away. Because of bad weather, I called and cancelled 24 hours prior and they told me that was fine. I tried getting my refund and they told me their policy was a rain check. Not happy as it is now November an I can't use it until next year, if at all. This kind of practice is not good for the game. Played here for the first time in February. The place was packed with golfers as not many places to play outdoors on a warm February day. Courteous starter and pleasant people all around. The course was in great shape considering it was winter and we were surprised the greens were open. Nice open course with some challenges. Overall good course to play if you need to get out and tired of the sim. read more

An interesting Donald Ross designed par 72 72.9/128 municipal course. The club house facilities doesn't match the course, run down and sparse. I had an AWFUL experience at Triggs Golf Club in Providence, RI this morning and I would recommend staying as far away from this place as you can. It is unfortunate as its a Donald Ross design and supposedly in decent shape, but the clown car circus running the place makes it unplayable! The back story. Today is/was my bachelor party, we had reserved tee times for our group of 16 over a month in advance by calling the pro shop and speaking with someone directly(Tom). When we arrived this morning for our scheduled tee time there were over 100 golfers waiting to head out for a shotgun start tournament. When we asked the guys in the pro shop about our reserved tee time, it was like we were speaking a different language while holding their mothers hostage. I've rarely encountered people who were as rude and unwilling to provide even a minimum acceptable level of customer service. We were brushed aside as if we didn't belong there. While standing waiting for one of the attendants to find the guy we spoke to on the phone, we witnessed at least 5 other foursomes who had booked through golf now be told they "couldn't deal with them until the tournament got off..." Mind you, it was a shotgun tournament, so when we're these guys going to get out?? One of the guys had to bark back at the attendants just to buy a bucket of balls for the range so he could wait around. Lucky for us, with some calling around we found another place to play, but I highly recommend staying away from this place, at any cost! read more

The 18-hole "Triggs Memorial" course at the Triggs Memorial Golf Course facility in Providence, Rhode Island features 6,522 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72 . The course rating is 72.9 and it has a slope rating of 128. Designed by Donald J. Ross, ASGCA, the Triggs Memorial golf course opened in 1932. The 2nd and 3rd holes will beat you up but it gets better - and fairer. The course layout is true Don Ross, fairway bunkers that still come into play, small greens that have subtle breaks - just a great course. That having been said I wish that the people who run the place would put more money into it. The fairways are generally a little rough around the edges and the bunkers could use some improvement. Tee boxes are just okay. Greens are a 7.5 out of 10. No driving range but an okay putting green. Clubhouse is nothing to write home about but the bartenders are very nice and pour a good cocktail or serve an ice-cold beer. A good course with a GREAT layout. If you like Donald Ross as a designer you need to try this one out. read more

Well I'll start off by saying that there was a lot of litter in the parking lot, some of which were two used condoms and so that was not very fun to see upon beginning our trip, plus the parking lot needs some major repair so that gave me an initial sour taste. However, the rest of the experience made up for it. The course is very nice, well maintained, challenging in certain areas and perfect for all skill levels. We played 18 holes and I will say it was one of my more favorite courses to play in, there were some wide open fairways and greens, and I really like that being that I'm not a pro but want to have the sense that I'm doing somewhat of a good job while I'm out playing. The price was a bit excessive for 18 but nothing to break the bank surely. Afterward we had some lunch in the bar area with the $5 coupon we were awarded and my chicken ceasar wrap was fantastic, add to that it only cost $6 so the prices there were quite reasonable. If you don't mind condoms in the parking lot getting stuck to your feet, or feel like you are going to break an ankle walking through the parking lot, or are okay with the neighborhood you have to drive through in order to get here... They offer plenty of great golfing to make up for it for a somewhat decent price and some really inexpensive good food, I recommend Triggs Memorial Golf Course. read more

The parking lot is really tore up. I instantly assumed the grounds would be crappy based on what I saw before I hit hole 1, but the course was gorgeous and well taken care of. However, the overall experience was ruined by the grounds crew. We we're followed for about 4 holes by a guy who was waiting for us to finish w the putting green so he could relocated the hole. That was distracting, but not nearly as bad as the guy blowing leaves all around us who actually drove by a bunker and blew sand all over us. It felt like some sort of crazy joke. This was not at all a relaxing day. My husband mentioned it to the guy at the shop who said we'd need to call back on when the manager was in, but that "you'd be the first we'd ever refunded". Great customer service, me thinks not. They have a bar/restaurant but the woman working there said they aren't owned by the golf course, seems strange since they are right next to each other. That place was fine for a beer, but really run down and dated. The bathroom was in really poor shape and the overall place was just depressing. I don't think I'll return to this place. read more

We went to the driving range here - the golf course looked nice, but to be fair, we didn't go out on it. Although it is not an "official" range, it did the trick for us. They even loaned us golf clubs as we didn't bring our own. (I can't tell you the last time I was at a driving range). At $6 for a large bucket of balls, this made for a cheap (and comical due to our level of skill) afternoon date. After 2 buckets and about an hour, we had had our fill. Triggs is a municipal golf course in Providence that gets a ton of traffic in the summer months. On Saturday and Sunday you have the Inner Club guys, the retirees, the public, and the course workers (who apparently can play anytime they want no matter how busy it is) all trying to get on. They do a lot of tournaments too, so call ahead. If you want to play fast, your best bet is to go on a weekday in the summer or in the cooler times of year. The layout is varied and challenging, but if you're new here grab a course map from the pro shop. Its a printed page, there's no layout on the score card. The reason for that is there are no signs anywhere, and there are a couple transitions from the green to the next tee where you could end up on the wrong hole if you don't know where you're going. Providence residents get a nice discount too. Its a good course you can play, right here in the city. read more

Challenging, not too expensive, makes good use of the landscape in a way that does not feel artificial, and has that Donald Ross design to it (think fescue-lined bunkers/ false-front greens). It's not high-end golf, but solid for sure with some memorable scenery, water holes, and elevation changes. read more

Triggs is a great golf course and I can't believe they have hired ppl who do not care about success of their business. Today I came to play and got to the course at 7:15 to find that there wasn't anyone out playing so we ask if we could start a 1/2 hr early, I was told NO! Again I mentioned that there was no one out on the course and again was told we would have to wait. Not only was this gentlemen rude (which is ok as I know too expect it) but this guy doesn't care about the business and it shows. Unfortunately this turn my good mood into a bad mood and decided to go somewhere else where I will be welcomed. I hope the owners read this and take action. read more

Great challenging golf course, but can be busy at times. Pro shop staff were helpful and provided a map of the course. Greens were in terrific shape and the par 4's are very challenging especially for women. Grass tees on the driving range. Had a nice burger in the club house, drinks very reasonable. For being smack in the middle of North Providence this place is a very nice surprise. I agree with previous reviewers that they could do a little more with the course in some parts (for instance, why they dont mark the holes is beyond me). All in all it is a great escape for a round of golf without having to drive to exeter or richmond. The course is also fairly challenging with a bunch of nice par 4s. I played Triggs today upon the "advice" of other yelpers, websites, and a certain golf guide. I was not impressed. First impression: I arrived at the course and on making a quick pit stop to the men's room, I hear some old timers, who were sitting around their beers, griping about the slow play and how the Ranger is no where to be found. I find this slightly amusing as I just passed the Ranger as he was recreating in his cart by the practice green. Pros: interesting layout of some of the holes, with the varied bunkers making a nice but not too difficult challenge. The back 9 appear to be more engaging than the front 9 in terms of all around golf appeal. The beverage cart girl was easy on the eyes. The fairways and greens were in good shape. Cons: Tight fairways with much of the rough being worn out, beaten to the point of exhaustion (i.e., dirt and gravel areas); never saw the beverage girl after the first hole; noisy course with a lot of road noise, high school sports near by, backyard activities, etc. I get it, it is a city course, but c'mon invest in some trees and shrubbery to reduce the noise, somehow. And yes, the absence of the Ranger was noted, as all day long, we had in the foursome behind us, the most obnoxious person ( think Sam Kinison meets Jabba the Hutt) shouting to the rest of his golf party things like "-insert profanity here- look at that -insert good or bad style of golf shot here-". You could hear him from 200 yards away, no exaggeration. And on the back nine, Old Man Johnson jumped in front of us as a solo player and played 2-3 balls per hole and had no qualms about slowing down those behind him as he walked the course by himself. Even when we kept hitting up to him, he could not get a clue. no Ranger indeed, and all sorts of riff raff free to behave poorly on the course. if you live in Providence and this is the best you can do, then have at it. But if you live in the Boston area and are thinking of visiting and playing this course based on what you read elsewhere, be warned! read more

First time out playing golf in RI last Friday, and I wanted to try out Triggs again. Last year the course played well and wanted to see how it was this year. For a region that went from winter to summer, with a May of no rain, the course looked lush and everything was green. The greens rolled a little slower than they do in the summer, but was glad since my putting was not up to speed yet. Spoke to course people and they said that the greens will start to get faster in a few weeks, so looking forward to coming back. Fairways were cut nice; enjoy playing on a mature course - hate the courses where you can't take a grass divot in the fairway! Also, food and drinks were reasonable, with plenty of TV's to keep you occupied. Thinking of maybe trying to get one of the tournaments I play in to move it to Triggs - good for all levels of skill and the staff are helpful. Triggs is a very high quality golf course that is surprisingly affordable for a classic Donald Ross design in New England. I used to play Challenge Cup tournaments here when I was a kid, and hadn't been back for a while, but got the chance to play it this weekend and was very happy with what I saw. Although the play was a touch on the slow side and the course could have been in a little better shape, overall it's a great golfing experience as compared to other courses in the area. One of the reasons I wll contineut to play here is that I just bough a Collegegolfpass (www.collegegolfpass.com) which allows me to play Triggs for only $25, a nice savings off the $42 standard adult rate. It's not a Groupon-like situation where you can only do it once though, so with several months left in the golf seaon, I plan to come back many more times as you can't really beat getting to play at Triggs for only $25 bucks. read more

So I received an email from Triggs Memorial golf course informing me of the summer rates as I once was a member so my email address is already on their list. In the email I received it stated $25 twilight rate after 5pm with a cart. I call the pro shop on the way to the course and the gentleman who answered to phone first told me I couldn't take a cart with the twilight rate, I then explain I had just received an email stating otherwise and then he mumbled something about thinking it was 6:30, not sure what that would change but moving on. We played 9 holes and tee off on the 10th, as we walked back to our carts the gentleman from the pro shop was outside and asked what we had paid for? Which I responded we payed $25 for the twilight rate with the cart. He then replied the twilight rate is only for 9 holes which I find very hard to believe it was 7pm and we easily had another hour of daylight. Definition of a golf twilight rate "Twilight golf is defined as golf at or near the end of the day which will allow a golfer to complete as many holes as possible before dusk. It is designed to encourage green fee players to use this time at the end of the day." I honestly feel like I was advantage of and brought some friends along to get robbed to because if I hadn't had suggested Triggs due to the email I received we would have still been playing some golf. The normal rate after 12pm on the weekends are currently $45 with a cart, but if I would like to play 18 holes after 5pm it would cost me $50??????? Doesn't make sense. I feel as though rules are made up when they are convenient. I actively play 3-4 times per week but I will not be returning here. I can't risk bringing a group of friends to have a fun Sunday evening on the course to stopped half way through, there are plenty of other options at our disposal. read more

The course is long and challenging. You need to use every club in your bag. The greens are usually fast, and in good condition. Fairways are great. The staff in the clubhouse may not be the most personable, or pleasant. But the starter is usually pretty pleasant. The one downfall that I really have is that it takes forever to play a round. There have been times where I only make it 13 or 14 holes before I have to leave to goto work. I understand that a round should be 4:15-4:30, but sometimes these rounds last over 5 hours. read more

Always a fan of Donald Ross courses, I appreciate this course and enjoyed playing there immensely. The routing is true DR, with snaking fairways - where the rough really comes into play, undulating greens and bunkers that come into play on almost every shot. But the best part might be the beauty of the old growth trees that exist on the course, truly amazing to see. The clubhouse, etc. aren't worth noting as the course is what makes it worth the trip. And all this in the middle of Providence too. read more

Playing golf in RI for 50 yrs and never played Triggs before. I played there for the first time this past summer ... and loved it. The people in the pro shop are friendly and very helpful. The course is long, difficult ... but really fun to play. Most of all, the people who play there are extra friendly and are there to have a good time. For the second year in a row Triggs hosted our golf tournament. The course was in fantastic shape and the staff was very helpful with every aspect of the day. We already have booked for next year. We recently had our fundraising tournament at Triggs Memorial Golf course, from the day I booked the tournament right up until the day after the tournament the staff at Triggs was always in contact with me offering their help in any way possible. We were able to have our tee sponsor signs and registration gifts sent directly to the course, and when they arrived the staff at Triggs notified me. As for the day of the tournament, what can I say, when we arrived the tables and tent for registration were already setup and ready to go. Their were plenty of Triggs staff their to assist both the workers and golfers. The course was in great shape, they even ordered great weather for us. Well after a fun day of golf, you always will have people looking for a good meal, well Triggs was able to accommodate us with Yogi's famous texas BBQ. Once again, I did not have to ask for anything they even had the microphone waiting for me so I could speak and hold the raffle. But it did not end their for the people at Triggs, I received a call the following day from Triggs asking if I had any problems or issues....... which I did not. Over the next 24 hours after the tournament I received numerous compliments on what a great tournament it was, well although my golf committee and I would like to take all the credit, I believe the workers at Triggs had a lot to do with it.
