The 11th Green Restaurant and Pub at Wood River Golf is an excellent large family-owned and managed…read morerestaurant. The entire Thompson family and their helpful staff are very amiable and down-to-earth. I believe the best way for me to describe the cuisine is "gourmet home-style food". Yet happily the prices are reasonable with the portions generous. The food is always fresh, and there are many creative dishes to choose from; vegetarian and GF options too. Our family/friends have eaten there (or gotten take out) many times over the years and have never been disappointed. They offer lunch and dinner, a Today's Specials menu and a bar menu. Great desserts! Take out is also available. In the warmer months they use their substantial garden grown behind the kitchen for many of the menus delicious vegetables, also buying locally when they can. The 11th Green Restaurant includes a large separate banquet room that capably accommodates parties, showers, fundraisers, tournaments etc. Seating throughout gives diners a relaxing view of the golf course. If you prefer to sit outside they recently added a beautifully landscaped outdoor patio next to a pond that includes a waterfall feature. They are open most of the year depending on the season. They tend to close in the dead of winter for a month or so; you might consider calling ahead to check (I have found they usually are open). The golf course is public and although I don't play golf a few people who do have told me its got about the most affordable prices in the area, even including a cart. The restaurant is about 25 or 30 minutes from Kent County (with ZERO stop lights all the way there once you're on Rt. 95)! From the south it's about 10 minutes from the CT border up 95 (about 15 or 20 minutes north of Westerly going the back way). Even in the summertime when the east side of South County is jammed everywhere with beach traffic this is a nice easy drive down Rt. 95 to Exit 2 then take a left and go straight about 2 1/2 miles and you'll find it set back on the left. Needless to say I personally highly recommend it. In fact I'm having a Pavlovian Response as I write this. :-)

I absolutely love this golf course. The layout is so so good, and so is the price. Similar to…read moreBethpage State Park, you register your license in the tee time system and call a week in advance to make the tee time. The food here is good, but the Eastern European girls behind the counter in the bar area are super slow at serving. Do not head into the snack shack in a rush if you want an egg sandwich, although they do have pre made sandwich wraps that are much faster for lunch. Check in area is a small window in the hallway inside, kind of like Bethpage. At $50 for NYS residents on a weekend, the greens fee is unbeatable. The course is 6800 yards from the tips, and if the wind is up can play much longer. No water views, but the course has a linksy feel to it. Almost all of the par 5s are reachable with a good drive, two of them with mid irons. Walk or ride any time, and enjoy the track. No boring holes, good mix of short and long ones. Greens are good enough, not super fast but decent speed. The layout really is tremendous though. Pro shop isn't bad, good selection of clubs and apparel. Range is nothing special at all, but you can hit drivers which is nice. Range is off mats. Cart girl is out and about, and 9 returns to the clubhouse if you only wanna get in a quick round or need to stock up on food, soft drinks, beers, etc. The bar has liquor too. Rounds can be long, 5-5 and a half hours on weekends, but tee times are not hard to come by. However, don't try to walk up without a tee time, you might not get out til very late afternoon. Be sure to snap a picture from the top of the third teebox looking down towards the clubhouse, awesome view. They have a public daily fee pool here too, although I've never been so can't comment on it.

The range attendant makes you share a mat if you show up with another person, which is ridiculous…read more I'm a 14 handicap and my boyfriend is so bad, he doesn't even have one. The range attendant gives him the mat every time and makes me wait, even when other mats are open! I've never seen anything like this. Highly recommend walking up solo or having a word with the head pro. And if you're a female, I'd avoid this place completely.
