I had gone…read moreto Sanije's before based on a recommendation of a coworker, and she had done a good job on taking in three of my dresses. She was stern and wasn't into small talk, but that doesn't matter since her work was good, and she got the job done fast.
Based on this good past experience, I decided to go to Sanije's because my various three gowns for my Indian wedding were too large. As she had successfully taken in my other dresses, I thought she could do a good job. When my mom and I went to her shop, she said the job would be tough but that she could do it, and said she would charge $160 for everything. While the price was not cheap, I trusted her experience and took her word. When we arrived to pick up the three outfits, one fit perfectly, but the other two were taken in so much that the zippers would not even go up. This is where things went downhill.
When we tried to show her the tightness issues, she claimed I wanted those outfits to be taken in that way, that I wanted my side to be completely open. Then she said how dare I complain, no one else has ever complained about her work. Then she tried to close the zippers herself and sliced my skin while never actually being able to close the zippers. She then claimed the zippers were old, even though these were brand new outfits from India. She then told me I had gained weight in the one day since I left them there.
What's worse is instead of owning up to her mistake, she started yelling at my mother and me. I have never been treated so disrespectfully. After much back and forth, she ultimately relented to letting the dresses out some so they could be zipped.
When we returned the next day to pick them up, both dresses were too loose again (back to square one), and she claimed they were perfect. I kid you not, she told me it was my fault they were loose, and that I needed to grow some breasts. One dress was torn slightly from all the altering and re-altering she had done, and the stonework from the other dress had fallen off, yet she still claimed they were perfect. She actually asked for $16 more to pay for new zippers she had added to the dresses, which wouldn't have been needed if she had done the alterations correctly the first time. She did not apologize once. She only blamed us.
If Sanije's felt she couldn't do this work, she should have been honest with me. Now I am left with two dresses my mom worked so hard to find and buy in India, and I cannot even wear them.
We left her store completely unsatisfied, and I truly would not recommend anyone go to her for taking in any sort of gown--or if you want honesty or respect.
