We requested a tour at their Amalyn location and were so interested, we brought our check book in case we needed to make a deposit. But when we arrived on site, we were met with a person who was filling in and could answer Zero questions about home design or options. I had printed out the home's layout at home and had to share it with the person giving the tour after they answered incorrectly what options were available for the home. My husband and I took the afternoon off from work only to have the whole time wasted. Why schedule an appointment when clearly no one knowledgeable was available? Why waste everyone's time? To make matters worse, they insulted our real estate agent by saying they were not included on the initial contact and might not be included at this point. We weren't even told we were supposed to let them know we were working with a real estate agent when we signed our name on the interest list. This seems unethical not to allow compensation for a real estate person that has guided us. Overall bad customer service and a lack of care and professionalism. It's like they don't know they are selling homes above 1.2 million rather than cans of tuna. read more

Short Version: DON'T BUY Tripointe! Longer Version: TriPointe is a scam, clearly a rigged game on their favor. They use poor quality materials and awful contractors to build their constructions, and you, the client, is left with solving the issues later on. We purchased a home in Rockville, MD in 2020 and have had numerous issues, to the point that we've had to leave our house 3 times for repairs. SIDENOTE: if you ever need to leave for repairs, ask them to make the reservations and pay for everything, do not go for the route of reimbursements! I am still waiting on my reimbursement for my last "outing" 7 months after! One example of their bad service is the stairs, which they stained with a totally different color than our floors--floor is grey/brown wood, stairs were red oak--and they deliver it with tons of dents in it. After almost 2yrs battling with them, the issue still remains and there seems to be no clear solution on their end. I've asked for a refund and they have not had the decency to comply. Don't waste your time suing. Unless the issue is structural or otherwise damaging, it would be very hard to win in a timely manner. As another reviewer stated, they've been in the game for 40yrs and it is clear that they've invested heavily in legal advice. Again, look for other opportunities, avoid them if possible. We purchased our TriPointe home in October 2021 and have been very pleased with the quality of the home. Our home is in Birchwood at Brambleton and is an over 55 development. The TriPoint models were the best designed and featured the highest quality of the 3 builders in the development. Intangibles such as 10 foot ceilings throughout, 8 foot doors, large walk-in closets and pantries, great appliance options and finish options and quick service follow-up on punch-list items. Update!!!!!! I still stick to my previous review! Winchester Homes Inc. uses like all other production builders "builder's grade" materials what isn't new in this fast-paced business. Besides the lower-quality /standard materials, such as Kitchen cabinets, fixtures and windows etc... It's more the contractors they hire to install the materials. After 9 months and a dozen, service calls we need to re-think if we ever want to buy another Winchester Home again. And dear readers I like to warn you before you sign their contract. Be aware that you are signing a one-sided agreement. They don't allow you any addendums or changes if you do not agree to parts of it. It's taking it or leave it. But they try to fish you with their attractive incentives and get your attention away from the contract. You can't sue them, they worked more than 40 years on their contract to make it suing proof. You can't postpone the settlement because you are unhappy with the quality unless you are outside the country. Your hands are cuffed. After the settlement, you are stuck with Prohome. Winchester Home made a clever solution to get annoyed customers from their plate to outsource their warranty service. Prohome is only an interim solution, they can't determine anything without Winchester's consent. So, it's a farce! They tell everybody it's because of transparency, yeah right!! As an example of quality control they covered our dryer vent, our dryer was blowing warm and moist air into our exterior walls and subfloor for months. And the best thing we are not the only ones who are missing these vents. The opening was there but the contractor that installed the outside trim just covered it. Because they don't use their brains and don't care about the other trades. Nevertheless, tons of nail pops and ceiling, wall cracks are still waiting to get fixed. And yes a new build needs to settle but here it's the fast pace of installing the drywall and skipping 3 phases of the drywall finishing. It's just built too fast and with contractors who don't care about quality as long the can do it fast and that's it. Quality control is far from what it should be. We are trying to love this house but it's hard with all the issues we had and still are facing. And they will never COMPENSATE you for all the damage. You need to take PTO days in order to be at home for the repairs, and the builder doesn't compensate it. Take a look at my pictures and make your own voice.!! Upon request, I have more to show. And yes, there're NO perfect homes, but with a new build you think you are buying a piece of mind but this is almost a big scam. Terrible, We have a built a new home in 2020 with Tri pointe at Glemont Metro and based on the one year warranty, they should repair our stairs and the don't to do it, I call several times, sent emails, but nothing, I did all my best to have them fix the stair but nothing. Please avoid this builder. I contacted them within my warranty period for several issues including a leak in our upstairs bathroom which produced a big stain ring in the kitchen ceiling and they attributed it to "condensation". Oh, and after cutting a big hole in my ceiling, they patched it and decided it wasn't worth properly finishing the drywall and painting it. The other significant issue I reported during warranty was my HVAC system. It's EXTREMELY hot upstairs. Winchester called the contractors that installed the system and they said everything looked good. I refused to sign-off on the work order. Please note the contractors Winchester used are "Metcalfe Heating and Air Conditioning" and they have absolutely horrible ratings on google/yelp. I called a professional company to evaluate the system. They said a 3-ton system was installed which is way too small for our size home - 3904 sq feet (including basement). They recommended a larger system of at least 4-5 tons which will cost roughly $10,000. I'm still within the statute of limitations so I'm contacting a lawyer to sue them. Don't waste your time or try to resolve anything with them - it's a waste of time - hire a professional company to fix all your issues and sue them for damages. read more

I'm writing this review as I prepare to exit my Winchester home in Selma Estates (Leesburg, VA), almost 12 years later. Having built homes with Ryan, Toll, Brookfield, Drees and others - my Winchester home has been my favorite. Through an approved exception, the sales team had new plans drawn for us - combining the best features of two separate floor plans. Through "Your Home, Your Way" (a program that may not exist any longer), we were able to do some additional customizing at our cost. As with any home building process, there were a few things that needed to be worked through (drainage I believe was one, solved by the builder); however I have zero complaints about the construction materials or contractor quality the company used in 2008. I don't think I've even had to make a single service call on any of the Whirlpool appliances. I still marvel at the tile work that has only required maintenance caulking. I'd be hard pressed to find nail pops today. A few of the plumbing fixtures have finally started to leak, but only after years of daily use. As a home is as solid as the experience of its craftsmen, I will give much credit to our construction supervisor Bruce, may he Rest In Peace. Thank you Winchester Homes, for making it difficult for me to part with my home so many years later. read more

Winchester Homes, is a terrible company they lie, promise but don't deliver. We wrote our contract back in June 2018. We were explained about the yearly water front fee for our community. Once we heard this, we were concern paying an extra Grand every year. The sales person made us feel a lot better when she said Winchester would cover the first year. Now fast forward to Jan 2019 we get the bill we have until January 15th to pay. So, I took the following action. I did my due diligence in getting information from the sales person why I was getting this bill. Was directed to the wrong place. Eventually I found out who was in charge. I waited patiently while they investigated weather this was payed at closing. To my luck it was not I was told the January 14th. I was told only way to pay was via mail. Sent the check the January 14th Winchester cashed the January 25Th now they are charging me a 10% late fee. I would be less aggravated if this was the only time they promised and didn't deliver. Our home was set to be delivered by Mid-September 2018. 1 day before closing our house we get a call we can't close due to inspector not passing Certificate of occupancy. Granted we have now closed on our sale of our old home. My wife, 2 kids, dog, and sister in law have nowhere to stay. Luckily, they did offer to pay for hotel. It took them a week come up with a game plan to remedy the issue. Which included tearing down walls in the stairs. Due to the lack of following building codes closing was delayed 3 weeks! The most scary things is they told us they have built hundreds of our model home (LEXINGTON). What did Winchester do to fix they safety codes on all their other homes? Having a terrible time with my new Winchester home in West Oaks 2020. Started with the wrong options being installed. Then there was a roof leak we argued about for weeks before they agreed to fix it--turns out the workers nailed holes in the roofs by accident but didn't patch them after the mistake! Whoops! But we were worried about MOLD...they were 100% certain there is no mold! We finally convinced them to get a 3rd party to look and LO AND BEHOLD, THERE IS MOLD! Then there was the issue of our HVAC not working so we sweated through the summer heat...finally got them to fix that. And now we are currently fighting about RUSTED registers that they are blaming us on because supposedly we were using the non-functioning AC (see above) while keeping all our windows open -- which we obviously do not do given all the debris outside an active worksite. I mean listen, if it was just one thing, you can chalk it up to being unlucky but when you look at the body of work, the sum of ALL the things in totality, Winchester and Prohomes need to just accept that our home was not built up to standards and stop trying to avoid fixing issues they created. read more

I moved into my Winchester home August of 2011. Winchester Homes look pretty but whoever they contract their work out to does a horrible job! A lot of people in the Poplar Run community have had horrible experiences within the first couple years of living in a Winchester Home. Buyers beware! I've had my garage spring replaced about 2 years in b/c Winchester only installed 1 spring on a 2 car garage and the spring snapped! (luckily no one was underneath that! It's like a death trap if that 1 spring snaps b/c there's no other spring to hold up your garage, so your garage is basically dead weight). 2 car garages should have 2 springs, that way if one fails, you still have the other spring for some support. Then my dishwasher broke 2 years in. Then my fridge broke 4 years in. Then I had to get a handyman to come out to replace my front door hinge/bolt area b/c Winchester Homes did not align the door correctly, so my front door never closed properly. I have some sort of wood rot on the front door too, which they said it's nothing to worry about. Then the fascia/shingles flew off from the wind storm because they use low quality roofing materials. Recently, I had a leaking valve under the kitchen sink. And now, the 2 skinny pipes (hot and cold water pipes) behind the kitchen sink, which is by far the worst damage to my house causing massive water damage, where I need to go through my homeowner's insurance to have a restoration company clean up this water damage. My plumber was able to pinpoint the pipe leak to whoever was installing the cabinets was probably nailing in the cabinets and didn't use anything to protect it from hitting the pipe. He took out the pipe and found a hole on the pipe and I could visibly see the nail if I look through the pipe. Insane!!! These are new homes! We should not have all these issues within the first couple years of living in a Winchester Home! read more

We have been in our new home for 3 years now. We love the open floor plan, we got the pemberton and we went with winchester homes BC of their "your home your way". We were able to make awesome design changes to our townhouse, which no other builder can offer. Anyway, we love our house but we've had horrible issues with our roof. I am in the process of getting my home built with customizations and Winchester Homes continues to make mistakes after mistakes. They cracked my home's foundation in two different areas, installed wrong cabinets, placed holes in my counter top when we specifically told them not to. There are signs of poor craftsmanship and short cuts everywhere. On top of that they will not be flexible on settlement date. They are threatening me that I will be in default if I do not settle by the end of the quarter because they have to meet their quota. I very disappointed with our Winchester Home. We bought our new home back in 2014 and have had more issues with electrical, plumbing, soil drainage and HVAC than we would have ever imagined. We moved from a 1951 colonial to our new home and we will never buy from Winchester again. The contractors they use to perform the work are horrible and they use the cheapest materials possible. We had electrical outlets covered up with tile, plumbing fixtures installed backwards, every electrical outlet in the house has cracked and broke, garage door not installed up to grade, puddling water issues on our property, HVAC blower blew out in the 2nd year, roof leaks. Should I continue?! I do not recommend their homes to anyone and will never buy from them again. We called them after the 1 year home warranty and they refused to take responsibility with the pipe that was installed backwards. I even sent them pictures the plumber took. Unfortunately, I am having to write this negative review because of my experience with Winchester Homes and their warranty service provider 'ProHome'. I purchased my house in June 2015 in Montgomery county, MD and moved in December of 2015. Initially, I had no major issues and I was very pleased with my purchase. However, with the recent storms in the DC/MD/VA area, I was shocked to find out that my roof is leaking. I have owned the home less than 4 years. I called ProHome and I was told that the roof is no longer under warranty. (warranty only covers 1st year). I explained that it can't possible as this is a brand new roof. I called a few roof contractors in the area and I was told that the contractor who installed the roof should be able to help. So, I called the contractor and of course, they said that they are not responsible since again, the warranty only covers for the first year. I am beyond disappointed at Winchester homes. I am telling whoever wants to hear that Winchester is NOT the way to go. I am even more so afraid of what's going to happen in the next 5-10 years with the house. Low quality materials were used to build these very expensive homes. I have friends and family members who purchased much older homes and the original roof is still intact and in good condition (over 20 years old). read more

We bought our shiny home in Brambleton in 2012 and was happy that we got a spec home to our satisfaction. If you are planning to buy a Winchester home anywhere in VA, please don't! Within a year, our lower level AC broke down and WH contractors came and reportedly fixed it. It kept breaking down again and again and after one year, WH said that they will not fix anything now as it crossed the 1 year warranty period. At the same time the kitchen appliances including stove tops, refrigerator and washing machine started breaking down. It seems like WH has installed very low quality appliances that will last for only a year or so. My neighbors also started reporting similar issues with AC and leaks in their roofs within their first two years. if you are buying a new home to reduce your maintenance costs, please do not buy a Winchester home. You will end up spending money out of your pocket for repairs and to pay for expensive home appliance insurance. read more

I have called them several time and send an email to them many times and nothing has changed. they would promise but never fix the issue. Half of kitchen hardwood was removed to replace with a new one but they have not fixed for 10 months. My family suffered due to bad smelling from unfinished bathroom. We have not had peace of mind because they left our house messy and every single day. we regret buying house from them. The house has multiple issues from bathroom, hardwood, hard-wall, the air conditioning, and roof issue. I can't believe how they treat you with your money. One of the worst Custemer support ever. Update on 02.26.2019, I am really saddened that I have to write this updated review. After I posted my original review, Winchester contacted me, heard my concerns and agreed to fix my leak. A roofing contractor was sent in and fixed the leaks. Another contractor was sent in to fix the ceilings (re-paint) as I had multiple brown spots in 2 bedrooms. This was around August/September of 2019. Fast forward to February 2019 and my roof is leaking again. There is no water dripping inside yet; however, one of the bedroom's ceiling has a huge brown stain. This "new" leak is exactly in the same spot as the leak I had reported back last year. I am beyond upset and disappointed!! The worse part is that I had hired a private roofing contractor to give me an independent and unbiased opinion on my roof. He advised me to replace the roof, but Winchester homes said the leaks were minor and could be fixed!! Less than 7 months, after Winchester "supposedly" fixed my roof, it's leaking again. The worse part is I am being completely ignored about this issue and my only recourse is to post this review and warn potential buyers to stay away!!! read more

I have purchased 6 brand new homes. This has been by far the worst experience ever. I wish I went with my gut and walked away when their lending arm wanted me to participate in mortgage fraud. Everything has been lies. GM Victor is a liar and promises to call back and never does. When he heard we were walking away from deal he calls me on a Saturday and insults me that he is calling on his day off, still didn't address what he said he would from a week prior and still never got a return call after that. Walk though with Jeff from Prohomes was a waste of time. All excuses about why noted items not fixed. Lies about a vinyl siding piece that was not replaced stating it was on back order yet I know it is a cut to fit piece. FInd out upon move in AC does not work. Now I know why Jeff and Ed were sweating like pigs during walk through. Call Prohomes and they say no one will come out to look a and they have no idea when someone will, blame the Covid-19 yet the AC guys are still working on new homes. Rep from Prohomes lies to me when I figure out AC system is frozen telling me that is normal. I work with car AC systems and advised him of that and that AC is not supposed to freeze up. He said I was wrong. Finally got an AC guy out and he confirmed a problem, did a temp repair and ordered a part. Next HVAC starts to only blow full hot air. Had to flip breaker to turn system off, would not shut down from thermostat. Call Prohomes again. Told someone would be out that day between 12-4. Had to take day off. Get call at 4:20pm that part came in and wanted to schedule to come install, told person from Metcalfe AC someone was supposed to be coming out to look at another concern with HVAC. She says no. Not just once but three times. Finally after a not so nice conversation someone shows up to look at it. You would think being we had just closed on house and system wasn't working it would be a priority but nope, they don't care. Please do yourself a favor and don't buy a house from this company. They are terrible and I wish I read all these bad reviews. I wanted to buy a house from Brookfield but my wife wanted this one. She is going to have to live with our poor decision. Have emailed and requested someone higher up in Winchester to call to discuss but no one does. Also they all beg to have a good survey. I did not want to but my wife again said not to worry about it. Same exact thing as Harvey happened to us. In our case, debt to income ratio is low and we have a huge cashpile to pay for it. So, it seems in either case, this woman - Debra Baker - will squeeze money out of us. I should have been alerted when every time I would ask her a question when she was pricing the options, she would start talking about everything else except answer the question that I had asked. For example, I asked her about bay window in one of the rooms which was not there in the options, she started telling about the bay windows in other places and what that offers. I repeated my question twice, still no answer but went on about other things. This is a typical - don't answer the question but make the customer feel that they are being taken care of - attitude of seasoned salespeople. There is a hassle though - spending our own time. We have now bought land and are going to construct our custom home. It will actually turn out cheaper and better than Winchester. So, there are pros-cons. One of our friends did buy the house in that community - without discussing with us and were surprised to find that I told them things about Debra which they felt after buying the house. I feel so sorry for them. The only reason I am writing this review is I was affected by what Harvey wrote and want to warn potential customers to simply run away when they see they have to meet Debra Ray for the pricing appointment. I have experienced people in NYC who first listen to you and then work with you to get what you want. Winchester Homes is very shady. Their sales department wrote a contract up for an amount and gave us assumption that we would win it and gave HOA docs and took pictures and the whole nine yards. Next day our offer was countered for 25K more by the builder and the sales person calls and is trying to convince us of buying at higher value due to our debt to income ratio being great and our ability to pay more then we are willing. Very unprofessional staff. Sales person asked our Realtor to give up her cut to us rather then bring down their asking price which is built in with huge margins. We were very happy to brought a brand new house from Winchester Homes to lived in Clarksburg, and now we felt sad about our decision. We moved in May 30, 2019, since to live in the new house, we found there are many big issues with the house. We have basement leaking a couple months ago, and also found my next door neighbor has the same problem. And now we found the roof is leaking. The warranty program is hassle, Winchester do not deal with customer directly with the quality issues, and we need to call Pro-Home about the problem. Pro-Home told us it is not under the warranty since it is only one year for roofing and two year for structure. There are many others issues like pantry room two parts of the locker are not in the same level, so the door is not able to close. When they install the kitchen cabinets, one of the cabinet screw has broken the cabinet and lost the function. Instead to fix it, the constructor just use something to cover it, that means you should have four screws to secure the cabinet, and now it only have three screws. Many of the big wall cracks. Nails pops from the wall and ceiling. We understand there is no perfect home, but basement leaking and rooftop leaking just after two years? This is a new house, we should not have to deal with all these issues within the first couple years of living in a Winchester Home. We are extremely upset. The model homes by Winchester located in Cabin Branch in Clarksburg have safety concerns. There are deep window wells that lack covers. Because of this mice and toads have fallen in and are trapped. Recently, there were 7 live toads and 1 dying mouse removed. Upon further inspection, several carcasses were found. When this was brought to the Winchester management's attention, nothing was done. I would hate to see a child fall into these unsafe holes when it would be easily make safe by adding a cover. Something this easy to remedy makes me think that the quality of construction is severely lacking in Winchester Homes. read more

My experience is worse than yours. My home is in Cabin branch clarksburg MD. During the first inspection, I noted that there was a major wiring problem which affected the upper bedroom. There was also a screeching noise anytime a tap is turned on. The inspector from their company told me it was anormal sound from the plumbing system. I refused to sign off on those TWO items till today. The dining room started leaking from the first major rainfall from the same area i pointed out hearing the noise. They came in an attempt to fix it and blamed "sloppy work by the one who installed the bay window". Three weeks after the fix, another rainfall and someone came for the inspection and said" we have to come back within a week to fix it". It is three months now. Emails, voice messages, calls and so far nothing has been done. Winchester homes will make all the promises but be careful. I have owned two homes from RYAN, NH HOMES and my third is Winchester and I am highly DISAPPOINTED. We bought a Winchester Home about ten years ago for well over $1 million. What a nightmare it has been. The construction was shoddy, the plumbing third rate, and each and every appliance has had significant problems or had to be replaced. We had mold growing in several locations that cost us 10's of thousands of dollars to remediate. Additionally, Winchester's warranty department, ProHome, is only there in name. They don't care one bit about you. Their primary function is to blame everything on you. Initially during the buying process Winchester was all smiles and nice. But once we paid our 5% deposit they turned into a semi-mafia with threats of confiscating our deposit. And then after we settled and all houses in the neighborhood were sold, they began to show their true mafia colors. We own several other much older homes, including those built by Ryan and Ryland. Believe me the problems we have faced in them so far all combined don't even approach 10% of the problems we have had with our crappy overpriced Winchester Home. read more
