I'm so glad we came back to give this another try! My husband and I came on a Thursday night around 5:30 and there was already a short wait. Our waitress, Randi, was amazing. The chips and salsa were great. I felt like the regular salsa tasted better this time. We both enjoyed our margaritas. We had the queso blanco appetizer again, but added the pico that comes with the chips to it and it was delicious! Such a difference! I ordered a beef enchilada and my husband ordered a ground beef chimichanga. They were both great, but the chimichanga was the stand out! We WILL be back soon! This is personally my favorite Mexican restaurant at the lake. But not my wife's favorite. Their salsa is more/less plain tomato sauce which works really good for me, but she does not like that. But they also bring pico along side which mixes good, and a third little cup of sweet/spicy salsa. Margaritas are good, but 16oz is $14. Prices on drinks and food are higher than the Mexican place next door, and 3 in Camdenton. But the atmosphere is great and unique with their 3 storied seating area. My favorites are the fajitas and crispy beef tacos. What makes the tacos for me is the ground beef and thick shredded yellow cheese on top. They have at least a couple servers that are exceptional and been there for a long time. Maybe more. They earn their money and tips going up and down those stairs all night. The two servers (one male, one female) working the upper levels on 11/1/24 (for management reference), are truly exceptional! I'd give them 4.5 stars if I could, but rounding up because, like I said, it is a favorite, though not a perfect place. Portions are large, so I'd highly suggest sharing to keep cost down and not waste a ton of food. Lastly on pros, the veteran servers are generous, and not stingy with the salsa which does keep us coming back. It makes all the difference. Cons: Prices a bit high compared to other Mexican places in the area. My crunchy beef tacos usually have the bottoms falling out from being too wet from the ground beef. Maybe serve them quicker or drain the hamburger better, but again, overall they're good. One last con.... It really bothers me when I come alone and the host acts like it's a hardship to seat one person when they're a little busy. I tip very well (probably more than a couple), I order drinks and appetizer, and most of the time I'm bringing a group with me, so I'd ask management to be careful with that. Came here for the first time tonight. We got there 20 minutes before they opened at 5pm. I guess it's quite normal because several people were waiting outside also. Well we figured we would get seated right away since we were the first ones in the door, but apparently everyone had made reservations, so we sat at the bar for about 20 minutes. This gave us some time to get a couple of margaritas, I got the Coconut margarita and hubby got the strawberry one. Oh my, the coconut one is absolutely delicious, this is my favorite from now on! The chips and the 3 different salsas were good, especially the jalapeño salsa. We had the cheese dip for the appetizer and a chicken chimi and a fried beef, bean and rice burrito. They were both good and very big. My one complaint is the many levels with hardly any windows, steep stairs and no noticeable exits or signs for an exit, if there was ever a fire I would not want to be there, it would definitely be a hazard for patrons and staff. Next time we go back we will eat at the bar and enjoy the Yummy Coconut Margaritas! read more

I've been here about a handful of times and have never been disappointed. Our friends are obsessed with Tres. Any time they get to pick a couples night out, this is where we go. My husband and I arrived early and decided to hang at the bar while we waited for our group. Ordered chips & salsa and beers. It was already busy (around 5pm) but not overly crowded yet. The staff was friendly and engaging with patrons. Once our group of 8 was all there, we were seated. We were in the mid section of the restaurant (I guess it would be the 3rd level, just below the top section). We had not ever sat in this section before but it was cozy. Our server was to our table quickly and had our drinks out shortly after. We ordered a variety of foods from chimichangas, to sliders. Everyone was happy with their choices. I can't remember if mine was the fried burrito or chimichanga but it was sooooo good. The beans were meh and same with the rice but I'm really picky about beans and rice so it's not completely Tres's fault. This was the first time I had a dessert here. OMG... If half a star was an option i would choose it. I felt like an emaciated rat tryna eat whatever mystical cuisine they conjured up in there. I ordered steak fajita nachos. It tasted like i was eating lunchable meat and someone was screaming flavors from across the room. The cheese was kroger brand shredded cheese that was melted with a reddit users hot breath. I went to bed angry, hungry, and had my feelings hurt by how awful the food was. I felt like i was eating something your white mom whips up in the crock pot on her day off. If you've ever wondered what raw sewage tastes like, just hit up tres hombres and they'll let ya know lickity split. If you plan on going here, just go to the subway across the street. its cheaper and tastes better than whatever grime they served that was found at the bottom of the nearby ditch. Going here is less for the food and more for the experience. You get a grand tour of the kitchen, as they have to walk you through it to get to the seating, you get to get your daily steps in with the 3 flights of stairs you have to go up, and you can even get your good deed of the day in when you have help gam gam and pap pap back down the stairs. I feel like i need to repent for my sins after eating that food. The fact that I made my grandma spend money on that disgusting concoction feels like a crime. I would have rather sucked the dirt from in between r kellys toes than have to consume that abomination they call food. Theres an episode of impractical jokers where murr licks the bottom of someones shoe. I look back at that now jealous that he got to have such a delectable meal compared to what I was eating. My favorite little pseudo Mexican restaurant at the lake. Imagine if you will, a Mexican restaurant with NO Mexicans working there. And instead of traditional music, it's Jimmy Buffet, Toby Keith and kenney chesney! The salsa has the appearance of marinara sauce and the decor is borderline racist. All this being said, I rather like the place. I tend to like bland food and am not a fan of overly spicey food to begin with. So Tres Hombres is right up my alley. Two words: Cheese dip. This is a great spot that is open all year round at the lake. We come here every Christmas as a huge group and it's never an issue. The waitresses are knowledgeable, friendly, and patient, which is important for such a large group that we are. The cheese dip is definitely where it's at, I wish I had the recipe so I could make it all year round. The drinks are also delicious, and you can get margarita pitchers frozen or on ice, in regular and strawberry. The entrees themselves weren't very good, just "eh". We were here before 5pm the opening time to make a reservation, and were met with 30 other people in a small hallway. The employees had no organization and thought the turn out was funny even though it was not covid friendly. So long as you are not looking for white table cloth atmosphere, this place is a gem. Look beyond the appearance and you'll thoroughly enjoy. Bartender is friendly and will happily make sure those margaritas are strong enough for your liking. There will most likely be a long wait, as they are a popular place, but become a regular and they will be sure you are attended to quickly. My three favorites: Queso Blanco-- so so smooth Soft chips- lightly fried tortillas perfect for dipping ( can't find these anywhere else!!!) This was not my first time here but it was my last. First, we were told our wait would be 40 minutes which was fine because it was a Saturday night and we had a larger party. Our wait turned out to be almost 2 hours. If that wasn't bad enough, I happened to be in the restroom when our waitress took the tables order and completely skipped me. So when she finally took my order, I ended up having to wait longer for my food while everyone at our table was eating. I also did not like any of my food! The salsa tasted like marinara sauce and I'm pretty sure they have no idea how to make a chimichanga. I've literally never had a chimi without cheese sauce on it but it was as dry as the day is long. Arrived here with a party of 4 for dinner on a Saturday. They were busy but not ridiculously busy. The drinks at the bar were okay, but nothing special. The bartender and the hostess were friendly. Once we got seated though the experience starts going downhill. They sat us on what I consider to be the 3rd floor or a building layout that reminded me of The Burrow in Harry Potter (a few of you laughed at that). We were seated and given drinks pretty fast and salsa was delivered to the table. They have two types of salsa, I recommend mixing them and you get a pretty dang good salsa. The chips are very thin, which I enjoy. The menus were filthy and stick. So, I felt disgusting ordering my food. We ordered the "stringy cheese" dip for our appetizer and all of our meals at the same time. It took at least 30 minutes for our appetizer to arrive, and that is not an exaggeration. It was...well...okay? Nothing to write home about. It reminded me of melted cheddar cheese and butter. I think I should have just gotten their white queso. Between 30 and 45 minutes after the appetizer the rest of our meal finally arrived. The food was just not that good. The rice tasted like something out of a box and the beans tasted like something out of a can. My dad's burrito was okay. The fajitas were good, but the shrimp was salty. My chimichanga was the best thing on the table. If you come here I recommend getting a chimichanga. Unfortunately, not only was the food sub-par and the wait long but the service was not very good either. We had to flag down a different waitress to fill up our drinks numerous times. We would go 15 minutes without even seeing our waitress on our floor. Even paying the bill was an ordeal which took around 8 minutes. I don't plan on coming back here, and I am willing to be you can find better food elsewhere. read more

They added $9 to our bill for something we didn't have but did remove it once I questioned it. We decided to finish our beers at the bar. This is the first review I have ever written but I felt it was necessary. After a long, hot day swimming and being out on our boat, my family and friends drove into town for an air conditioned Mexican dinner. When we arrived we knew we might have a wait seeing as there were 7 of us. We waited about 10-15 minutes before being seated which was no problem at all. We were seated at the top level in Sharon's section. Sharon was amazing! Not only did she have a wonderful, friendly attitude but when we asked about the rice (my son is VERY picky) she offered to bring some out for him to try before ordering. This blew me away. All of the couples ordered a different cheese dip from the menu and all loved them. They shred their own cheese and it shows. Chips and salsa were great too! They had a Pico salsa that we asked for seconds and thirds of. The food was yummy! We will definitely be back again! read more

I am not generally one to leave negative reviews - but this was the worst restaurants experience that I have ever had. Avoid at all costs. Took 3 hours to get seated, order, and pay. And it wasn't even busy at all that night. The waitress seemed completely overwhelmed the entire time, took forever to hand write our tickets out separately, and then when t was time to pay she had to re-write them all out separately again. The food was disgusting and I am 95% sure I got food poisoning from it that night, because I was very sick . When we asked for the tickets, the waitress came back to the table and had to re write out all of our tickets -- WHILE SHE WAS EATING A BURRITO DURING THIS! This took about 30 minutes. Then when she FINALLY took out cards, I took her 30 minutes to run them. All the while, our party of girls was getting harassed by two very inappropriate men there. They tried to send us a round of shots multiple times, jumped up on our table and hit one of us in the head while jumping up, tried to slapped one girls butt, and tried to write their phone number on one girls arm. Food was extremely over priced, nasty bowl of cheese dip was $10 - not worth it at all. They double charged my card by putting my friends ticket on my card - luckily she could repay me via Venmo.
