I'm not sure why there are so many mixed reviews. This place was pretty solid to me. The place is beautiful and service was top notch. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who recommended us sitting upstairs. It was a cute, classy feel and our server was very attentive without being intrusive.
The Frida cocktail I had wasn't the best I've ever had, but then I am not a big cocktail person anyway. It kinda tasted like pink grapefruit juice and had a spicy smell, though it was not spicy at all. Now on to the food...
I ordered what I thought was a bruschetta with goat cheese (my Spanish isn't the best, so I'll take the blame there). It was actually watermelon with basil (always a good combination) along with goat cheese balls on a skewer with some vinaigrette. Had I know that I would have opted for a different appetizer. It was tasty and different all the same. I took a picture of my risotto as I didn't see any pictures of food, which I always appreciate. The risotto was yummy. Never had one with plantains in it - it worked! I would have thrown in a few more tomatoes just for some fat/acid balance but now I'm just nitpicking. I tried the steak ordered by someone else and it was by far the thickest steak I've had since being in Mexico. Also, the complimentary bread they brought was super fresh. I can't sing their praises enough for that one.
So, all this to say that I don't really get the bad reviews (again, my limited Spanish didn't help with that either), but to me this was a great choice. We had drinks, an appetizer and three entrees for less than 700 pesos. A place like this in most any city in the States would have easily been double the price. Portions aren't huge, but I was full when I left and I'd personally choose quality over quantity in that department. Overall it was a solid 4-4.5 stars and would not hesitate to eat there again. read more
