Our plans had several interesting species of drought-tolerant plants. We wanted to work with a company that was affordable and had extensive experience. After doing a lot of searching and asking many questions to just about every local garden center, Arise stood out among the rest. Not only are they fairly priced, but the owner (Rigo) was easy to get a hold of and made sure he provided us with all the plant species we asked for. He also delivered them to us with a 24 to 48 hour turn-around time which was important because we needed time to get the plant order in the ground before the rainy season. Literally all other local gardening centers in Chino, Montclair, Claremont, etc...were either standard or limited in their selection, or severely overpriced. Arise is a local business worth supporting because they are in touch with what other gardening centers are failing to provide do-it-yourself landscapers: great advice, accessibility, and the best prices.

I received an Azalea that arrived severely stressed and completely dehydrated. I reached out to customer service "George" expecting a replacement plant or a refund, but his response was "Just water it." For the price paid, I expected a healthy plant, not a resuscitation project. Telling a customer to water a plant that arrived in this condition is a complete brush-off. Was in the neighborhood with my girlfriend and her parents & decided to finally check it out. The nursery has street parking and has signs making it easy to find. Walking up you immediately see the wide variety of pottery & plants that they have. I was pretty excited to dive in and see what they had to offer. Within 2 minutes of being there, literally 2 minutes we were greeted by a little boy. He ran up with a smile and stood there watching us. We said hello and he just nodded. We thought that's cute, and didn't think much of it. We haven't even begun our exploration when he followed us every step of the way, at times bumping elbows with us? We were taken by surprise because of how close he would get to us, it gave that feeling of him watching us as if we were going to steal something. He began running around us in circles, eventually grabbing a stick and tapping things next to us and playing around. Kids will be kids, I gave him that but this was way too much. My girlfriend's mother would at times bend over to look at a plant and he'd run past her making her have to step back or step forward awkwardly to let him by. We couldn't look in peace, it was impossible to even try with him squeezing in between us or running around us. It got annoying really fast, to the point where I was embarrassed that I took my girlfriend and her parents hyping it up to them saying that I've heard good things about this place. We eventually told the little boy that it's ok, we don't need help and we'll call him if we needed him but he didn't listen and stayed even closer after? Not long after another little boy, a little older ran up to check on us and probably seen the annoyed looks we had because he left us alone. At this point I was already turned off to even being there. I glanced at some prices and from what I had seen, some seemed kind of pricey while others seemed like a good deal. As we were leaving, I had noticed a woman sitting there with her kids and waved at her but she didn't wave back. I waved again and she just looked at me? So, that was awkward. Great selection, great space, this nursery had a nice variety of fountains, pottery, statues, and plants but to be constantly watched by this kid was definitely uncomfortable. I'm all for supporting family businesses, so I'll give this place another chance and bring my Mom because she's been wanting to go. Hopefully it's not always like this, otherwise we'll just bring our business elsewhere.

It's unfortunate that I need to update my review and take a couple stars away. This is kind of long…read moreoverdue. I know it's getting harder and harder to get good help or even qualified help for that matter. The last couple times I have been in the employees really are not very helpful. When you have a question about a plant, they don't really take the time to explain it or give you alternatives. That again today happened in a large way. I was looking for a particular fruit tree with a certain root stock that would work in my soil. I called and asked if they had the particular type of tree and wasn't on the root stock I was looking for? The guy told me I don't know. I said do you know what route stocks you have. His response was if you want to know what rootstocks we have and what trees are available. You need to come down here and look. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. So I looked up another nursery called and asked the gentleman there. He told me he wasn't sure if they had that root stock for that particular tree, but he would check if I could hold on a minute or two because it was in their other location across the street. He came back in about a minute and a half and told me they did have the tree not only in my root stock, but two others. He then went on to even ask why are you looking for that particular rootstock? I told him and he said OK that's a good rootstock for that but here is a better one that will take care of that issue for you in the long run. I thanked him and drove 28 minutes to their nursery so I can get outstanding service rather than going to Sunshine growers which is 15 minutes from my house. I will not be going to Sunshine growers again. I found a new place that really is focused on the customer.

Unfortunately, the experience at checkout completely changed my impression. The cashier was not friendly and seemed impatient, which made the process uncomfortable and disappointing. The nursery does offer fair pricing and a wide selection of plants, which I appreciated. However, customer service--especially at checkout--is just as important. Because of this experience, I will likely choose to shop somewhere else next time.
