Best barbecue in Jacksonville. The food at most BBQ restaurants whether franchised or local in the area are incredibly sub-par and leaves you with the feeling of regret after spending your hard-earned money there. Most of the time the food at these franchise stores is bland, dry, and/or disgusting. Nothing is more disgusting than spending a good amount of money on some ribs or chicken that was made the day prior then packaged to be microwaved the next day. In contrast, I can tell you that Treemendous BBQ is the complete opposite of all of that. You can tell that the food is made with respect for the ingredients and with care for the customers that chose to eat such food. The BBQ that they serve is tender, juicy, and delicious (especially the brisket). Also, Treemendous BBQ's food will make you feel as if you are stealing from them for the generous amount of food you will receive. Here not only will you get great food, but you will get a generous amount for the price paid. Furthermore, I would like to add that not only is the BBQ good but the sides are great as well. I was surprised when I ate the baked beans and for once was it not watery and tasteless, but was rich and flavourful instead. Let me tell you this, I have never been a customer at a BBQ restaurant where I wanted to come back, and I would generally stay away from them due to the bad experiences I've had with them in the past. Yet with Treemendous BBQ they are the exception. I will be sure to come back for my BBQ needs and will be sure to recommend only this establishment to anyone looking for a place to get great BBQ (Or might I say food that is actually edible). I vacillated between 3 and 4 stars here, but I'll err on the side of optimism since they have just easy fixes to make. I had a smoked turkey sandwich and fries from the truck today, and there were definite strengths in the cooking. The turkey was as moist as could be, with a nice smoke touch. Obviously some real expertise on that smoker! Only problem is the lack of seasoning; even a touch of s&p would have really set it off! Same with both the sweet and mustard sauces...they lacked impact. They were thin sauces, so maybe I just needed to add more them? Big win for me was the fries. Overall I feel like this is the Best BBQ in north Florida. I used to live 5 minutes from here. I always get the 3 meat dinner (Brisket, Ribs, Pork) the Brisket 9 out of 10 times is delicious and the best in North Florida. Never had bad ribs or pork. Best pulled pork sandwiches in town! I drive 20 miles just to treat myself to this delicious food here.

We have eaten here many, many times over the years. Yesterday 7-1-22, we ordered a meal for two to go. We got home & it was not edible. 3 slices of beef which was supposed to be a double order we paid extra for the double order was nothing but blobs of fat. The French fries were still white because they were undercooked. For the price they charged, and extra at that for beef, it was ridiculous. We will never go back. So once upon a Saturday I was over on this side of town because I was supposed to be skydiving. When the weather didn't permit, myself and my moral support went in search of adult bevs and food. Well thanks Google cause you lied. There is no alcohol here. We thought for a second about leaving, but decided we would stay and have some que. I went with the pulled pork sammich with cole slaw as my side and then added some fried pickles. The drink cup made me laugh because it was SO huge! The food came out quickly and everything was really good! The cole slaw was perfection, the fried pickles dipped in ranch were awesome, and the pulled pork, while a little on the dry side, had a good flavor to it. The place is super small, and you leave smelling like bbq, but the staff is friendly and the pink pig outside made for a fun photo. Ended up in Orange Park randomly and was looking for a good lunch spot. Found Treemendous on Yelp and decided to swing by. The cashier/waitress was incredibly friendly and helpful. She recommended the beef, Turkey, ribs, and chicken. We got all but the chicken, plus some other sides. The ribs were phenomenal and the turkey was extremely juicy. The beef was a bit dry but after speaking with her she happily gave us another batch that was much better. I was planning to 4 star, but the service was exceptional and bumped to 5. This barbecue restaurant is a little out-of-the-way on Herlong road almost to Normandy Boulevard. You walk into the place and it seems like a small little simple barbecue joint. I found the people to be very friendly. When I asked what their best meal was they told me all of it was great and suggested I should start with the ribs. So I went ahead and ordered the two meat dinner with the ribs and pulled pork. I started with the ribs with no sauce added. I do not think I have come across better ribs. I was very impressed. Finally had lunch at Treemendous BBQ today. I've been hearing/reading about it for some time, but I'm never in the area at the right time of day. Today, however, I had to be on Normandy near Fouraker , and remembered that I was within easy striking distance. Glad I stopped in. The staff was friendly, the place is clean (if a bit small), and the food (pork sammich) was, um, tremendous. There were 6 or 7 sauces on the table, apparently all made on-site. The pork was tender and sweet, and terrific without sauce, but I tried them all. French fries taste pretty good with the "Barbie" sauce on 'em -- a thinnish, probably vinegar based sauce, but not like the North Carolina sauces I'm familiar with. One of the staff brought me a banana pudding sample -- I'm sure it was due to my stunning good looks. Lunch (sandwich, fries, and a drink) set me back $8. Dinner portions are a bit more, and come with two sides. I need to find a reason to be here more often. Ordered the 3 meats - turkey, pulled chicken, pulled pork - with bbq beans and fries. Everything came piping hot (temp). All the meat had a really nice seasoning. The chicken and pork could have been more moist. The bread it came with was delicious. I am not a bread fan. I enjoyed their sauce selection too. My meal with a $2 tip was a little over $15. Do not try and get them to roast a whole pig for you. They'll charge you $10/lb !! So a 60 lb pig (which is pretty small) will cost you $600 ! And that's not including purchase of pig. Go elsewhere,I found a restaurant that'll do it for $150 read more

Nothing really wrong with it but not really special. I am just passing through town so I cannot tell if this is the best of the area or just a solid spot. I ended up here after my target spot was closed. Had a rib and beef dinner with green beans and cole slaw. The were out of pulled chicken. The ribs were moist and not so meaty. The hard wood smoke was mellow and pleasant. Served with a dry rub only. The beef was mostly a leaner cut. Even less smoke and almost a roast beef vibe. It had a delicious bark but I only got tiny bits in my serving. The 3 sauces on the table were a sweet, a mustard, and a thin bouillon-y (vinegar?). All were great. I particularly liked the thin sauce and commend the sweet sauce for not being too sweet. The green bean side was great with a porky broth like a nice soup. The coleslaw was a classic mayo version. You can't get much better The above was served with a buttered Texas toast which I didn't eat as I can do the dairy. They were nice enough folks. Stop by if you are in the area. read more

The first time I tried to eat here was back in February. Sadly, we did not call before we started our drive because when we got there we discovered that they are closed on Sundays! I finally got to try Treemendous BBQ. I ate lunch here yesterday. The service is great and our waitress was cheerful and friendly. It's a small cozy restaurant and you really feel like you're entering someone's home! To start we ordered the fried okra it's served with their homemade ranch dressing. I also had the small basic salad with ranch too. The ranch dressing is delicious! Between 2 people we shared the 3 meat combo dinner for $10.99. We had the brisket, smoked turkey, and shredded pork. The 2 sides we selected were the mac & cheese and collard greens. The brisket was by far the best meat on the platter. The mac and cheese was too salty and the collard greens were lacking in flavor (I think it needed a hint of smokiness). I'll be back again to try more options off the menu! read more

ok I'm back on on my food truck review. today is tremendous bbq...ist glance smelled good am d looked good. Nice menu variety. i got a 2 meat combo not on menu for 14$. portion side was good but got back to office to eat and no mac and cheese. and one thing I don't forget is this black girls mac and cheese...grrrr. bbq was ok not best NOT worst but ok...the brisket was a bit dry and seemed pre cut but was ok. ribs we fall off bone. seasoned lightly not overbearing smoke but flavor more in rub than in meat. i would prefer a bit more seasoning but that's just me. bbq grade. my coworker had turkey her grade was a C. she sd it had a weird taste. i give bbq a c+.m a Texas girl so if my brisket is dry I say bye bye..thank u in sync u hear me singing it..would I try again I don't know there a lot of bbq in jax and this was not a stand out read more

Best Bar-b-q in Jacksonville, we get the family feast and you get enough food to feed our family twice. My son in law loves the sausage and I like the turkey. They do steak on Friday and sell a lot. Probably my favorite bbq place in town. The meat is top quality! I love their turkey, ribs and pork! I especially love their "Barbie Q" sauce! I could drink gallons of it! But, if you're a naturalist and it's a sin to put sauce on meat, you'll love the taste of just the meat. It has a great run and it's juicy. Sweet tea is great and sides are great! Friend and I were transiting Cecil Field and was told about this place. Definitely has that "hole in the wall" appearance. Dining area is a not big, but was very clean and appealing. I had the Two Meat Plate (Brisket and Pork). Big portions and cooked just right. Great smoke flavor too. My buddy had the chopped pork sandwich with slaw on top. This update reflects the results of my independent Jax. Rib Off. Five slabs from five different restaurants were test tasted by 11 hand picked rib experts. Treemendous - Tenderness - 5.0, Smokey Taste - 4.1, Moistness - 4.7, Fat Content - 4.2 and Personal Preference - 3.6 Overall Average - 4.3. Comments: Again, there were some moaning sounds around the table but two participants said too much garlic was used in basting. Interestingly though, it was judged as being superior to HH in smoky taste by .3 points and tied in tenderness. This is clearly one of the best in Jax and awarded second place by a slight margin. I have been back and forth about writing this review all weekend. Should I or shouldn't I? But decided to proceed, after all, I can always update later. Ok, it's Saturday afternoon. Clean house, chores done and now we are hungry. Adam was craving some BBQ the light bulb came on: I had a Groupon for Treemendous, had them book marked from the recommendation from my Yelpmiga Naomi and had been reading all of the stellar reviews. So, we called in a rather large take out order and loaded up in the car for a quick little 20 minute drive. We decided on the Family Feast 2 meat option with pork and beef with collards and fries. Added a side of fried okra and a pint of banana pudding. We really love having BBQ sauce from our favorite Q joints on hand, so ordered a pint of the sweet sauce. We drive up and giggle a little bit. A tiny little place, windows "painted" on the building and that awesome polka-dotted pig out front. Inside, is what everyone has said... a few tables and not a whole lot else. Our food was ready and packed upon arrival. The young guy at the counter was super friendly and I had no problems at all redeeming the Groupon. Adam did a quick check of the bag as I filled our ginormous sweet teas and we headed home to gorge. So, we take everything out and put it on the table and start filling up our plates. I looked around and then back in the bag.... and my heart dropped. Our sweet sauce was missing. A double check of the receipt and we were charged for it (only like $3), it just did not make it in the bag. :( We both sat there for a minute, silent, with the saddest looks on our faces. After the initial mourning, I went to the fridge and pulled out two sauces from a few "other" BBQ places in town and we dug in. Okra was good, nice size bites, just needed a dash of salt. The fries, old school crinkle cut that reminded me of childhood. But the collards, holy cow! They came in a huge large drink cup and while I am normally a fan of adding a ton of pepper vinegar, (just grew up eating them that way!) these didn't need a thing. Perfectly seasoned, hint of heat, they looked and tasted super fresh, like we picked them from our own garden! I think these just made it to the top of my list! Now to the pork and beef. I felt like I was a cheating mistress adding "someone else's sauce." It just felt dirty and wrong. Both were completely tender and delicious, but something was missing and I was super bummed we did not get the true experience. A few hours later I went for the banana pudding. I might piss off some banana pudding purists, if there are such folks, but hang in there with me. I also grew up on this dish, but always with Nillas and chunks of banana. I took a bite and yes, it was good. Well, the next day, I set out to pick up some Nilla wafers and that night, added the fruit and cookies. I was kinda surprised that I actually liked the pudding BETTER without the additions. Haha, so there you go! I am still giving 4 stars here. We all make mistakes. They DO NOT serve fresh shrimp! Got the shrimp dinner and had a couple of BAD tasting shrimp to where I couldn't even swallow it. Called right after to complain that the shrimp was FOUL tasting and was told to bring the portion up the next day. In doing so I was turned away because i didnt bring back a full meal with the bad shrimp mixed in. If I was aware of bad shrimp being mixed in ONE I would have NEVER ate there and TWO I would have brought it all back. I thought I was getting some fresh food but it wasnt and they didnt want to do ANYTHING about it so I was just out of luck. I advise A HEALTH DEPARTMENT to look in on how their "fresh shrimp" is really being stored because it AINT fresh if it's been frozen! read more

Now, we all know the health benefits of collard greens but this place makes eatin' 'em pure pleasure....the BEST collard greens I have ever eaten! Not salted to death and vinegary, these green leafed beauties are drenched in a delicate bacon flavored watery broth with bits of meat to make it just right going down. Mac & Cheese was like eating butter, probably Velveta but man oh man solid goodness on a fork. BBQ ribs were moist, succulent ( love that word ) and the beef slices were ample and flavorful with a variety of really good sauces, we liked the HOT. WAAAY out off Normandy west of town in a old fashioned concrete block building, feels real and authentic. Very sweet and helpful counter help and sweet smiles a plenty. Only disappointment was the banana pudding...not home made pudding and few bananas or waffers.....I make it from scratch and much better, if I do say so myself! This cute little BBQ joint would only get 3 stars in Atlanta by my standards. But considering the lack of alternatives in Jax, I think 4 stars are appropriate. I had heard good things about this place from my mom who lives right down the road, so we had our hopes up. While everything was good, there was nothing fantastic about the food. Service was the kind where you order at the counter and they bring it to you. The girls we ordered from were sweet and helpful. First flaw was that they were out of a few key side items, which allegedly weren't ready yet even though we were there for a relatively late lunch (after 1pm). This is always frustrating to me. The best news is that the chopped pork was very tasty. It had decent smoke flavor and was very tender. Great taste without sauce. Other highlights were corn nuggets, fried okra, and baked beans (really good). Out of all the sauces, I liked the sweet one and the sweet and tangy ones the best. There was a hot one that wasn't hot. There was a mustardy one that tasted simply like a thin mustard and not a mustard-based bbq sauce. The standard, unlabeled one was good but ridiculously salty. Couldn't use it. Mac and cheese and fried squash were letdowns. Overall, highly recommended over the alternatives for BBQ in the area. read more

After reading the reviews and with the cold weather I had to make the drive to taste the highly recommended Brunswick Stew. I ordered a pint for $5.75 and he ordered a bowl for $4. They were the same volume. I poured my pint cup into a bowl of equal size and the bowl he was served actually contained a little more. Neither of us liked it and found it to be too sweet. I'm guessing the added sugar to it but it was not something I want more of. We also ordered tea which was very average. It was a wasted drive and I won't be returning. read more
