The food is pretty good here. The wings are probably the best thing on the menu. Smoked, then flash fried and sauced the way you like. They also have a really good salad and you can get your choice of 2 or 3 meats. Most people would not be able to eat all of it. I feel like the prices are really high for what you get but they do have some unique items on the menu. I have been going here for years and have seen the prices rise continuously. The servers often tell you not to tip when you order. They say the owner keeps the tips, it is no wonder they cannot keep help. I do not know this, but I don't know why the servers would say it if it wasn't true. read more

I enjoyed the BBQ here. Quick service and lots of room to sit and eat. Nice place to visit in Jacksonville. read more

This BBQ place is good. Prices are great and the order is ready fast. It's great to order online so there is no wait, but ordering inside it is still fast. Love their lunch specials. There chicken wings sauce is really good. read more

Stopped in today for an early lunch with a friend at his recommendation. Upon our arrival, the place was deserted and stayed that way throughout the time we were there. So much so, the staff were seated at tables in the dining room on their phones. This counter service restaurant is located in a small strip mall at the intersection of Dunn Ave and Biscayne Boulevard in Jacksonville's northside. Despite being bored, the staff were friendly, attentive and courteous. You order at the counter and the a member of the staff brings it to you. I ordered a lunch turkey platter with collared greens, green beans and I added a side of Brunswick stew. My friend ordered the pulled pork platter with corn nuggets and baked beans. Both plates also come with Texas toast. While my turkey was well smoked and the house sweet barbecue sauce was good (the portion was a good amount also). However, the sides were not great - the Brunswick stew was flavorful but the green beans and collared greens were flavorless. My friend did not complain about his meal but I will say his baked beans looked straight out of a can. Not really on my normal route or haunts for food but if it was, I don't know that I would go back. read more

I had uber eats deliver this food and it was not bad. I had the Sausage chicken and ribs with sides, collards and baked beans. There was plenty of food for the money and it all tasted well. All the meats were cooked to my taste. When in town and want BBQ I would go here again. I really liked the collards. There were also two slices of buttered Texas toast with the meal. read more

It has been three years since I have been here last. I was looking forward to a BBQ dinner with my son. Unfortunately things haven't changed. We placed our orders and proceeded to sit down, were served rather quickly. Upon sitting it was evident nothing much has changed, the table was sticky and the sauce bottles were disgustingly dirty. Then it came to tasting the brisket sandwich, the base flavor of the meat was flavorless and dry, clearly over done. Reaching for the sauce bottle to put some moisture back into this meat. The sauce bottles could have used a good cleaning. Leaving this place for the last time. It took 3 years to try this place again, I won't be back. read more

IF I COULD GIVE THEM ZERO STARS I WOULD!!!!!! I ordered through Ubereats when the food got here I was missing 2 items, a fried pickle order and a chicken platter order. I called the restaurant and they literally DID NOTHING to solve the problem. They argued that I was missing items, then said I didn't order, so I said I would take a picture of my order and send it to them. They said well you can come pick it up if you want it. Literally the worst customer service I have received in Jacksonville. You mess up my order then tell me to fix the problem. On top of that the food isn't even good, no flavor and over cooked brisket. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! Side note their food look good in the picture but was nothing like that. Also no condiments for the baked potato, just a potato in a box smh. It's been an hour and I still can't get over the way this situation was handled and how disappointing the food was. read more

I have been to big oak bbq a few times. I have gotten the individual meals and have also gotten the family meals to go. The service is okay. When I get an order to go, there is a lady at the service counter who wants a tip and watches closely to see if your going to tip her. It feels very uncomfortable. I normally don't tip on a to go order unless the service was somehow exceptional. The meat is good. I have had the turkey which is moist. I have also had the pork which is more like a chopped pork but good. It is fairly flavorful. The brisket is good and well cut. They give both the tender and lean pieces. The sides are okay. The Mac and cheese feels very overcooked. The BBQ beans have a good flavor and have bits of meat in them. The toast is fine. It is standard. I have also had the fried pickles which are fresh and a good size portion. Overall the food is fine and it is convenient if your on the north side of town. The device in side isn't much and you need to get your own silverware which is fine. read more

There is always something missing, overcooked and/or cold with my food! Since the "new" owners took over, there is always something negative about my visit! It would be that one of my sides or brownie missing! The meat doesn't have the Smokey flavor it used to have or the ribs would be dry! Their portions are NOT worth the price or the visit anymore! The flavor just isn't there! One more thing, ITS THE LOVE for me when preparing my food...THEIR customer service is horrible as well! When you ask to speak to a manager, he takes a long time coming out, then catches an attitude!!! Just fix your mistake, say sorry & we both can be on our merry way!!! So that "WOOD" be a "BIG" NO to recommend! read more

We yelped up this place before heading to Jacksonville International for our long flight(s) back to the PNW. We tried two Big Oak salads, one with chicken the other with sausage and pork, two sides of greens ( I wouldnt have gotten the same thing as my dad had I know he already ordered that...) and a two meat plate with beef ribs and brisket, pot salad and beans. The flavor of everything was good, not terrible, not amazing. The pork was really fatty, but we didn't have time to ask for a re-do as we had a flight to catch. Prices are reasonable, super friendly service, the joint was pretty busy for a Monday at 4:45, and the brownies looked to die for. If I lived in the area I would probably come here/ take out often. One thing I did not really care for was the sauces, the sweet bbq was good but the others tasted off. Sweet tea was also a plus! read more

It was good in the past but the on my last two visits the food was not as good and prices too high for the items. I had a pork bbq sandwich that one third to half the portion of meat was fat. No side with it and I don't recall the exact price other than about ten dollars or more with tip and drink. read more

Stopped in really quickly to get my bbq egg roll fix, aka stumps. The young lady who took my order was great. The stumps, were not. They used to be so good!!! They seem more soggy and not as tasty as they used to be. I don't know if I'll purchase them again. I paid around $7 for 2 of them. I don't know if it was just an off day or if they have changed how they make them, but every I received was definitely but what I expected. That was the only thing I order from there, so I guess I'll have to find them elsewhere. read more

Oh my goodness yes! I came here earlier today for lunch with clients and I had one of the best BBQ meals I've ever had! First off, the small when you walk in is like heaven. It gears you up for what's to come. And what's to come? DELICIOUSNESS! I had the pulled pork sandwich special which is so simple and so perfect in every way. Beautifully smoked, chopped up nuggets of porky goodness served on a couple of slices of toasted white bread. Add a little of the sauce of your choice and you are in for a treat! The fries were perfect too. Crinkle cut fries are the undisputed king of fries along with shoestrings for me. These were crisp and still fluffy inside just like they are supposed to be. I am so happy that I've been here because I'm definitely taking my wife one day soon. Awesome! read more

BANANA PUDDING!! 8.5/10, Store cleanliness 9/10 Customer service- 10/10 Looked up on apple maps banana pudding and it was the second to pop up. I bought the pint for about 5-6$ after tipping. Bananas are soft and sweet, the wafers aren't soggy & it was lightly swirled w like a whipped cream or something. I can't remember the gentleman that cashed me out but when I walked in the employees acknowledged me and assured me that they would be with me in a moment. Took about 5 mins & he had to get the man & packaged it himself. This type of stuff might not matter to other but I appreciate stuff like this so much! He wrapped my container w a lil saran wrap & everything. I love my banana pudding & I loved my experience today. read more

Ribs were ok. The smoked flavor really helped it. Didn't taste like much seasoning. Sides were garbage. Whatever you do, don't get the Mac & Cheese. Honestly it tastes like boiled noodles and unsalted butter. My husband got Mac & cheese & collards. He said the collards weren't good either. I got M&C & green beans. Green beans were ok but were btr with salt & pepper. Staff was very nice. read more

Nevermind the nasty dry overcooked food, the service was horrible. They sent an order of two kids meals, then the manager argued saying that it didn't matter that the menu was wrong and didn't indicate kids meal...it was our fault. The food was cold and the manager tried to convince my wife and I that we had underpaid the restaurant...and overpaid Uber. read more

I ordered the whole chicken special and I was highly disappointed. I asked over the phone did they boil their chicken and she responded the meat is smoked and not boiled. The chicken was obviously boiled and maybe smoked for a few minutes. The baked beans were peppery. The only think I likes was the mustard sauce. I will not be going there again. I was expecting grilled chicken, and I was okay with getting "smoke" chicken. Please do not waste your money. read more

Got the smoked chicken with baked beans and potato salad. It was really good! Friendly service, too!

Looks like a hole in the wall and you may pass it by over on Dunn Ave. First, we walked right up and ordered at the counter. They give you a number and a cup to get your own drinks...and refills. A giant menu board behind the counter to choose your food. I will say the prices are pretty good for a BBQ place. $6.99 for a pork sandwich with one side and came with a drink. You can add sides and the also have appetizers. The corn nuggets were very good. The pork on the sandwich was just OK and the French fries were undercooked. The beef was good. Other sides are bbq beans and Mac n cheese etc. The BBQ sauces were disappointing to me and only had four to choose from. The hot ketchup was pretty good. All in all I give it three stars. Not bad but just OK. Prices are good though. read more

Down home type of place. You order and pay upfront and the food is brought to you. I had the grilled chicken, salad and another side. My son had the pulled pork sandwich. Chicken was moist and tasty. He seemed to enjoy his pulled pork. We had desert which was carrot cake and red velvet. Go with the carrot cake. Red velvet didn't do much for me but ad unnecessary calories. The carrot cake was worth it. I had leftovers to bring home. There are tv's to watch if desired too. read more

This is my go-to spot for quality food at a reasonable price. The ribs and chicken are consistently tender and flavorful but it's the bbq salad that stole my heart. It's your standard chef salad with turkey or chicken (or both!) on top; add a little dressing and a little sweet bbq sauce for a delicious surprise. I'm also impressed by the variety of the menu which includes seafood dinners, hamburgers, fried squash and fried okra. I've tried nearly everything they serve and have yet to be disappointed. My family, for reasons they are incapable of articulating, does not like this place as much as I do, hence the 4 stars instead of 5 because maybe I'm trippin. Oh wait I lied, there was one thing I was disappointed in: the Mac N Cheese. But honestly, who's out here making mac n cheese like me and my grandma anyway? Exactly. Don't forget a dessert or three. They have chocolate, coconut, red velvet, and carrot cakes. Fresh brownies and banana pudding. The service is always extra nice, the place stays clean, and the food comes quicker than you expect. To recap: Get the bbq salad with sweet sauce but avoid the mac n cheese. Buy dessert. Enjoy yourself. read more

It's as if the cooks have a vendetta against seasoning. The most bland food ever. No way the owner/cook can taste that Mac & cheese and say it's good. I asked for a pulled pork meal but got a sandwich. Pulled pork is bland as well. I've never been to a BBQ spot and not had BBQ sauce. First time for everything. Corn nuggets are stale. I thought about dipping the sandwich in the beans just for sum flavor but ... I just walked down to the corner store for a bag of chips. That was my dinner. read more

I decided to stop in for lunch on 3/19/2021. My order was taken at 12:17 as shown in my receipt. At 12:50 I still didn't have food. The misery continued as I watched patrons arrive, order, and receive food while I waited. Food is pricey, but you can live with that when you get good service. Today the service at the store was by far the single worst I have ever experienced in the city of Jacksonville. read more

this place is terrible , it's bland and has no seasoning whatsoever. it looks horrible in the pictures and is honestly disturbing that they would serve this type of food to customers. the meat has an old two-day taste and you can taste it being microwaved very dry , the customer service sucks except for this one young lady named ciara. she's literally the best worker out of them all and she's really nice . overall one star review , the macaroni is not macaroning its disgusting , bland , unseasoned and taste like hotdog water . i seen rat turds on the counter and on the kitchen floor !! i don't know how health inspection hasn't shut this shit down cause it is horrifying to even look at . my siblings started throwing up 30 minutes after consuming this nasty food !! read more

Nothing to write home about. Ordered the sloppy Joe which wasn't sloppy and the bread to meat ratio was off. The bread won. I felt like for $9 for a sandwich and 1 side, the value wasn't there. The person with me ordered the 3 meat. The mac and cheese was comparable to Kraft and the corn which qas fried (by request) sat in a bath of butter. Yuk. The meat was tender but really had no flavor, especially the chicken. They sold big cookies for $1 but they were boring and didn't taste fresh. Sad. I wanted to really like it here. read more

Nothing was terribly bad except the concoction they call banana pudding...bleh! The portions are large and their are a # of bbq sauce choices though none of them wowed me. There just are plenty of better bbq places in Jax; however if you're near or confined to the area then they'll do...but given options, I'd opt elsewhere. Specific ratings: The Service was 4-4.5 (friendly & quick service), Facility 3-3.5 (appears the decor hasn't changed much since 2 or 3 owners ago), Food 3-3.5 (ok on taste; portions are sizeable), Price/cost 3 (comparatively priced with competitors). One time visitor not impressed The meat was well smoked but there was no real bargain and I measure a barbecue joint on two things the way they smoke their brisket and the way they make the mac & cheese and the mac & cheese here leaves a lot to be desired always want to support a small local business but this one is not really great food wise or ambience was just sad. Love this BBQ!! Everything is homemade and the BBQ is made daily according to the owners. I was given a sample of the brisket and ribs, and it is the best looking BBQ that I've seen since Franklin's BBQ in Austin, TX. They had the perfect red BBQ frame. The flavor was, also, great: light on salt and smoke, which allows the beef and pork flavors to shine. Their ribs are the Star of the show: very flavorful and cooked perfectly! The BBQ samples were so delicious, I ordered the pork sandwich, which was fantastic. Tender and moist with crispy ends.. my sides were, also, great. Loved the Cole slaw (crispy cabbage, touch of vinegar), and promptly, threw some on the sandwich. Also, got a side of homemade Mac-n-cheese: creamy, cheesy goodness! Finally, the owners were great people to talk to: friendly and passionate about what they do. I would recommend this food truck's BBQ as having some of the best BBQ in North Florida! read more
