Beware of staying at La Quinta on Monterey Street in SLO! We stayed 3 nights at this hotel last weekend and I prepaid for the entire cost on Expedia when I booked the reservation in October 2024. When we got home I checked my credit card app and saw that La Quinta charged me for the entire stay even though it was prepaid through Expedia. After calling the hotel 3 times over the past week, they still haven't reversed the charge so now I have to dispute the charge through my credit card app. Has anyone else experienced something similar with La Quinta in SLO? Seems like a sketchy way to do business and now I'm wondering if this is something that they get away with since a lot of people don't frequently check their charges to see if they've been double charged by the third party booking site and La Quinta. This was my first time and last time staying at La Quinta. I will not stay there again. read more

Had an issue with a black oak at my home in Cascade Shores that had 3 growth ends, one of which snapped last November in a wind storm. This huge limb (18" diameter) logged against a fir tree and a cedar tree. It levitated parallel to the ground, 30 ft. above the ground and its 2 ends were over the roof of my house. I started in April trying to get a bid on the removal of this limb. Three tree service companies never returned my call. Two other companies did come out to inspect the project. One declined the other submitted a bid then withdrew the bid when I accepted it because they were too busy. I then contacted Treesafe. The only negative was their lack of e-mail communication to my numerous e-mail questions ( I live in the Bay Area). They arrived on time with a 6 man crew, worked from 8:30 to 4:00 and did a splendid job on removing my tree issue. The crew were very pleasant and professional Thank you Treesafe for relieving a lot of stress on my part. And thanks again for reaching out to my initial contact. read more

I had Tree Safe out because a large branch had broken off one of my trees. Brian thoroughly inspected my yard and found other areas of concern. He took the time to explain what needed to be done and which items were more important. He did extensive work and now my yard is fire safe and my buildings are safe from falling limbs. We have had Tree Safe out in the past regularly but the yard was neglected for the last three years. I will be having Tree Safe out every year to maintain a safe environment. We have had Brian and his great crew remove 5 or 6 large pines over the years. They have repeatedly done excellent work. Very trustworthy, and very capable of handling tree removal in limited spaces. The crew is hard working, friendly, and all very professional. Prices have always been reasonable. I'd give them 6 stars if possible, and keep them on speed dial !! read more

I had Tree Safe fell and remove 3 medium size Ponderosa Pines. I also had them remove rounds from 3 trees I had taken down last year. The Tree Safe team was extremely careful in how they approached the work, and by keeping everything in a small, controlled area, were able to minimize the impact on the rest of my property. They were very considerate, and did an excellent job of clean-up. Their vehicles didn't even leave any oil stains on my driveway. I no longer feel like I need to look for a great tree partner, as I've found it in Tree Safe. read more

Can't say enough good things about these guys. We had a dead tree in our yard that I'm embarrassed to say that we had neglected until the bark split down the middle one day. We got Brian out to bid the job and he gave us a very fair quote. Because of the urgency he sent a crew on Sunday to remove it. We had a beloved 100 year old black walnut tree die between our home and guest house that had to come out. Yes, there was our main electrical line running through the tree as well... We watched the videos on Bixler's great website, checked that they were insured and licensed before we gave them a call. They were so sensitive to our beloved tree. They cut it into slabs with their Alaskan mill to ensure our tree would continue to provide beauty for the next 100 years. They left our property immaculate. They loved our dogs and were a wholesome and professional crew. I will not even look at hiring anyone else. I am filled with gratitude for a job well done. This has literally been the most horrific experience in my career. I'm a realtor and I have clients needing to get some dead branches cut out of a huge oak tree as soon as they close escrow on their new home. When I set up the appointment I explained the situation and we set the appointment. When my clients and I met the owner of the company at the house he was extremely rude and said he wouldn't give us a bid because they haven't closed escrow on the home and that we are just trying to get a bid and not give him the business which is completely not true. They have no tree contacts in town and would be using them for the work. I have never had a owner of a company treat me or my clients so bad. Run away from this guy, he truly is a terrible person and doesn't really care about his clients. read more

We recently had Bixler Tree remove a cedar and oak tree and also trim several other trees of dead wood. Pro- We contacted four tree local tree companies to get bids. Bixler promptly returned our call and came out the next day to provide us a quote. Of the other three companies one took four days to get back to us, another took a week and the third never showed for an appointment. They showed up on a Friday as scheduled removed the cedar tree quickly and cleaned up well. We thought they would do all of the work done in one day but they said they would be back on Monday, which they did. Con - When they showed on Monday I gave then explicit instructions not to drive their trucks on our lawn because of potential damage to our sprinkler system plus we didn't want ruts in our lawn. We ran some errands and came back to find their trucks on our lawn. So much for heeding our request. When they cut down the last remaining trunk of the oak tree, they dropped it on a mature plum tree destroying half of it. Not good. Overall they did a good job but I wouldn't hire them again due to the above issues. read more

All of the guys were professional, experienced, personable, concerned with on-the-job safety, and very hard-working. They did everything we needed and communicated with us throughout the job to make sure they were doing what we desired. We had a massive oak tree, close to our house, with a large hole (2 feet across, in a 3 foot trunk and 4 feet high). We had a couple other firms pass on it and one recommended Tree Safe. They did a fantastic job, brought it down safely, cut the limbs into rounds and chipped the rest, all in one day. read more

I wish I could give Bixler Tree a better rating, because they are truly nice people, but here's the thing. I contacted them based on their good Yelp reviews, and they came to our house to check out the work that we needed doing. We had a very nice visit, and had agreed to have them do the work as soon as I got an estimate. About a week later I received a copy of their workman's comp paperwork, which is good, but all that I got as far as an estimate went was their per hour per man price. No mention of how many men it would take, or even a guess on total costs. I sent an email (I was nice!) and asked if they could possibly tell me about how long each of the tasks would take (removal of mistletoe from a few trees, cutting down another, etc.) so that I could get a better idea of what my costs would be. No response. I understand that estimates are just that, but it is scary to let someone start a job on those terms unless you have lots of experience with that company. I like them, I would guess from other reviews that they do good work, but their business practices could be better. Quick Update: To their credit, Bixler contacted me about ten minutes after I posted this review, apologized, and sent a more informative estimate. This means they care about their customers and their reputation, and so I feel I should increase their rating from two stars to three. We had two 70'+ digger pines within a few feet of our garage. Brian came out and gave a bid that was very reasonable (we got a total of 6 bids from different tree companies). Brian followed up with an email containing their workers comp and liability insurance. They showed up on time with a crew of 5 guys. They did an amazing job cutting the tree into sections and lowering each section down. They were polite and respectful and very professional. I stayed home to watch and was really impressed with their work. I highly recommend them and will be using them in the future. read more

I had ten or so very tall bark beetle infested pine trees removed. I was concerned because of the proximity to other healthy trees that some of those might be injured when the diseased were felled. That did not happen with Bixler Trees. Each tree was cut in sections, with great care and precision, and not a branch was lost on the healthy ones. It was really something to watch. Brian and Skylar were the climbers and Nick and Mike were the ground crew. If you like reality shows such as Axeman...you should see these guys in action! Brian, the owner, is so very nice, honest, helpful and most excellent at what he does. For all their hard work in two 100 degree days, I must say that what we paid was very reasonable. I am so glad to have chosen this company after talking to three or four others beforehand. It just felt right when Brian came for an estimate and I am so glad I went with my instinct that this was the company for me. I will use them for any other tree issues I have on my six acres...which, by the way, looked perfect when they left. I would not consider using another company. An amazing and hardworking crew under the expert leadership of owner Brian Bixler...we couldn't have asked for anything better! We had to have three very large (dangerous) oaks removed that were close to our home. They arrived 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. The crew introduced themselves and were courteous and friendly. They worked pretty much nonstop in horrendous heat! It was amazing to watch what appeared to be a very well choreographed effort between the climbers and the ground crew! When all was done, they left the wood we were keeping neatly grouped by size, the small branches and leaves were chipped and loaded (we had decided not to keep the chips) and the yard was raked. We have 50 acres with TOO much MISTLETOE in our otherwise gorgeous oaks. Brian and his crew worked on about 25 trees - some small, some enormous. They were prompt, remarkably quick, knowledgeable, extremely safe, and fascinating to watch. A rock-climber friend was very impressed with all the safety features they employed.
