Akai inspected the entire unit and indicated the issue was the defroster in the freezer wasn't working and needed to be replaced. He quoted me what I thought was a very fair price but before I could say "Shut up and take my money!" he added that when he had unplugged the unit & plugged it back in, when starting up again the compressor sounded a bit suspicious. Thus he indicated I could go ahead and pay him to install a new defroster in the freezer, but it is only a matter of time before the compressor craps out and then replacing it would be over $1,000 and not worth it. So get this....he proposes that I defrost it the old school way by unplugging it, opening both the freezer & fridge doors, placing towels in front of the unit, and allowing all of the ice to melt and then just mop up all the water with towels and my wet vac and that would solve the problem for now. And in a few months when the issue occurs again I can just repeat the old school defrosting method until the compressor finally goes kaput, and then get a brand new refrigerator. Sure enough, I proceeded to do exactly what he recommended and lo and behold the fridge & freezer started working properly again. And I am all too happy to repeat every few months to squeeze every last bit of life from this old fridge until I have to get a new one. Akai could have very easily kept quiet about the compressor sounding sketchy and that it could fail in 3 weeks, 3 months, or 3 years and gotten a nice service order for replacing the defroster since he had already devoted the valuable time & effort to come to my house. However, he instead chose to be completely honest and forthcoming which is not as common as it should be and is very appreciated. I have saved his contact info and the next time I have any issues with any appliances he will be the technician I call. Knowledge and experience is great and there are a lot of qualified & knowledgeable appliance repair companies out there. However, also possessing honesty and integrity is why I strongly recommend Akai for any appliance repair issues.

We also added in new cabinets. Cabinets To Go was recommended by a friend that has several rental properties and uses them exclusively. Ida welcomed us, sat us down and listened to what we were envisioning. The showroom had a modern style of quality cabinets in colors we had a hard time deciding upon. Annapolis Blue and A slate gray were our choices for both baths. Turn around on ordering the cabinets and receiving them was under two weeks and installation took about a day. Bennie, Seth and John were smooth, competent and a heck of a lot quieter than I thought they would be. They even packed out the cardboard the cabinets were shipped on. These cabinets look great. Word of caution. The faces of the drawers and doors are not drilled out and are not ready for pulls and handles. I am doing this task myself, but Bennie does offer that service at a separate fee per drill hole. Fit and finish are right up there with custom on-site manufacture cabinet shops at a reasonable price. I am going to use them when I get ready to update my kitchen. Ciao, Darrell

When I told them I had checked the box to see the slab first and even had the sales person make a notation in the computer, they more or less said too bad. I then asked them to send pictures of the cut slab. When they did, It had a large gray vain running through it and it looked nothing like the picture of the slab that I ordered from. The picture I ordered from was cream colored with light soft gold veining. I had multiple conversations with Sherry Pennier and she was not the nicest person to deal with. She told me that I would have to buy another slab and have it redone. When I asked her for the number of her supervisor she refused to give it to me. After arguing she finally said she would have the next person up give me a call. Sean Demory was no better. When I asked him for the next person up he said he was it. He refused to give me an email or number of anyone else I could talk to. When I asked him what happened to customers were always right he said no they were not. There were none left in stock, so I bought the floor/demo model. The next day, Conn's delivered a non-working, Dead On Arrival refrigerator. It displays an error code indicating that the compressor motor fan does not work. Now Conn's want me to pay $214 more to get a working refrigerator, three days from now. Let me ask you: what does a refrigerator actually do? Hint: IT COOLS THINGS. The object Conn's delivered does NOT cool things. I received an item which is NOT a refrigerator (because it does not cool things). It LOOKS like a refrigerator, and it COSTS as much as a refrigerator, but it's not actually a refrigerator. Conn's wants me to pay $214 more to get an actual refrigerator. To add insult to injury, I spent SIX HOURS and TWELVE PHONE CALLS trying to get the problem fixed. Every time you talk to someone, they have no clue about previous phone calls, so you must start all over from the beginning with a brand-new person, and they keep sending you to different departments to start over. If someone brings you a dead refrigerator, would you pay $214 more to get a working one? The short answer is "NO". The long answer is that Conn's needs to either deliver a working fridge, or refund ALL my money and haul away their non-working boat anchor. DO NOT BUY FROM CONN'S. YOU WILL BE SORRY. I had a miserable experience with Conn's 20 years ago. I decided to give them another try.
