Motel Villa Arco Iris - Our bed inside the villa

    Motel Villa Arco Iris

    (6 reviews)

    $$

ONE NIGHT STAND…read more Puerto Rican locals know of these spots in Caguas and just what they're for *wink wink nudge nudge* After a week of staying in decent places and spending far too much money (upwards of $150/night) on simple lodging, my girlfriend proposed a much more cost-effective alternative: stay in one of the island's cheap motels. To me, that meant the Puerto Rican version of a Red Roof Inn (....Posada de Techo Rojo??) Ehhh not exactly. Places like Motel Villa Arco Iris are where you pay in increments of 8 hours, and though you can stay overnight like we did, most folks are finished after a "single session". Catch my drift yet? You choose a villa and pull into the single car garage, where an employee charges you for the duration of the visit. This is an interesting concept that minimizes the chances of being seen by anyone. The rooms range from basic to more extravagant (whirlpool, themes, etc). Our villa was nothing special at all. Bathroom was sketchy. The bidet was rusted and looked like a medieval torture device. Towels were slightly bigger than a napkin. The bed itself had a plastic liner and ranked in the bottom 10% of "comfortable surfaces I've slept on". Electrical outlets were almost nonexistent, with the only visible location on the ceiling. So weird. No wi-fi/ethernet connection despite the television offering X-rated RokuTV. I enjoyed flipping through the channels sorted by genre -- it had a search feature (let's call it Booble) that I had entirely too much fun with. Posted on the wall near the bed was a sheet of paper listing various snacks and adult accessories. Somewhere in between mozzarella sticks and orange soda were things of a more explicit nature. I won't list them out in detail, but yeah, pretty naughty stuff. Adding to the kink of this place is that when placing an order for snacks/sex toys, there's a small red hatchway leading to the outside. When the items are ready, they knock and slide it towards you through the gap, kinda like daily rations in prison. No human interaction necessary. * TL;DR * This place specializes in discretion and caters to a certain type of clientele that don't want to be discovered as having been here......yet here I am, running my big fat mouth on Yelp, basically telling everyone "HEY YOU GUYS check out where I went". I'm obviously not their target demographic, plus I write about everything, so who cares. Motel Villa Arco Iris is a stripped-down Sybaris that's like a Days Inn with nudie television. It's little more than a roof, a floor, 4 walls, a bed, a bathroom, and tons of NSFW on-demand programming. No slick ambient lighting or rainfall shower head, at least not in our villa. It was definitely surreal to see quesadillas listed next to inflatable dolls on the 'late night menu'. Room rates are fairly low, nearly half what we paid elsewhere on the island. Not a great place by any stretch of the imagination, but if you're a college kid living in Puerto Rico and need to escape with your significant other, places like Motel Villa Arco Iris are your best, cheapest bet. Unless you're a couple that feels like slumming it, I'd urge you to find a nice quiet Airbnb nearby.

Disgusting! Disgusting! Disgusting!…read more What type of low life would bring someone here??? We had stopped because we were in the area and needed a place to stay. The hotels in the area are very expensive, but this wonderful establishment was only $35 for 8 hours. Haha! They rent by 8 hour time slots! When you first pull up, the place looks really nice. Very tropical like. You pull up and someone comes out to help you. They direct you to a parking garage attached to the individual motel rooms. There they take the money and close the door behind you. So at least your car is protected? The room itself is hideous. There is a bedroom and a bathroom. The bathroom is small and has a toilet, a bidet, and a stand in shower. We did use the shower, but it was gross enough where we wore our flip flops in the shower in fear of foot fungi. Neither of us sat on the toilet seat for fear of our lives. I brushed my teeth using bottled water. There is a small TV in the bedroom that had several pornographic channels. The bed is very uncomfortable. It is as hard as a rock and has a plastic cover on it to prevent "spills". The room has an air conditioner. Again, I wore my flip flops around the room for fear of catching something. We never pulled the sheets down and slept on top of them at the foot of the bed. There is a small wooden door with no lock noted near the head of the bed. It is about a foot wide and a foot long. When you open it, it simply leads to the outside. A person could easily squeeze through the door. I'm not sure exactly what it is for. Maybe it's for letting the farts and the stank out. We high tailed it as soon as it was light again. I do not recommend staying here at all. I assume that low lives come here to have sex, but good luck with that. This place is not sanitary in the least.

The first night I heard what I assumed was a curated "rainforest soundtrack" through speakers. It's not. Those are actual local frogs, and that small detail somehow sets the tone for the whole experience: it feels real, private, and almost unreal at the same time. The room is massive and thoughtfully designed. The outdoor shower is a standout, and the big tub makes it feel like you have your own spa built in. I didn't have a private pool since I'm on the second floor, but the view is so beautiful I stopped caring pretty quickly. What impressed me most was how effortless everything felt. Having an Embajador team plus a driver/golf cart makes the resort feel easy to navigate, and they're quick to respond when you need anything. The pool is stunning and spacious, and the overall vibe is quiet, calm, and never chaotic. The only thing I wouldn't hype is room service. It was underwhelming for the price, especially the lobster. If you're deciding where to eat, go to Positivo near the concierge instead, it was noticeably better. Even when the weather turned intense, it didn't take away from the stay. If anything, it made the resort feel even more cozy and cinematic. Add in the humidity controls in the room (so underrated), and it's one of those places you leave already planning how to come back.

This is a MUST in Puerto Rico.

I can't agree with the other reviewer more on the fact that it is quite possibly the awesome-est place to stay ever...and very difficult to describe the overwhelming amount of charm. time kinda stops (which is really nice if you are on vacation.) if you enjoy languid porch swings, fluffy clouds, beautiful views, sunkissed cheeks, peaceful hammocks, rum drinks, floating in water, watching lizards, carefree afternoons, sweet tropical fruits, beach glass, cat-naps + quiet-time this is the place for you! we didn't have to share a bathroom, because we rented the cabanita. it has it's own bathroom - a private outdoor shower. (oh bliss!) a tiny kitchenette...with fridge and two burner stove + it's own front porch. La Finca has many options for different types of travelers. The community house has shared bathrooms and kitchen and some little bed rooms like a hostel. It has a breezy open indoor/outdoor quality and plenty of perfect spots for a nap. There are larger more "luxury" cabins also that are secluded and less communal throughout the property... OR you and 49 of your closest friends could rent the entire place for a week! this option would be great for a big party, retreat, family re-union, wedding, yoga intensive, etc. -the salt water pool is amazing! it feels healing for your skin and doesn't stink like chlorine! but none of it is what you might be used to. the linens and towels don't match, there are no tvs, internets, newspapers, telephones, etc. no one wears shoes that much. they might rent you a convertible car without a top (and it might rain that day.) people are so completely laid back that there isn't even glass in any the windows! i felt really lucky to have landed in such a beautiful, down to earth place. The Inn Keepers are super kind and helpful and will make you feel right at home. Go when it isn't tourist season (late spring+summer) and you will find yourself totally alone on a crystal clear blue beach swimming with tropical fish for hours at a time. We felt so free, we got naked! La Finca and all of the island is really pretty rural -you'll have to be able to entertain yourself. bring books, instruments, crafts, bikes, rafts and bug spray! all we did the entire time we were there was: read, swim, drink, eat, drive around beach hopping and sleep. a real relaxing vacation!!! my only beware: the non-puerto rican transplants that have spent entirely too much time in the sun and burnt some of their brains off can talk/get/act/look really wacky. BUT: If you have never felt a trade wind, seen the stars without light pollution, taken a dip with glowing phytoplankton, photographed wild ponies or eaten a fresh tamarindo....you really have no idea what you are missing.

Our experience was fine for the price, although the rooms smelled strongly of bleach, likely due to their attempts to clean mold. The cleanliness was subpar, but we managed. This week, we returned to visit a friend who was staying there. On the first day, after a long trip, I asked the receptionist to use the restroom. They directed me to the pool bathroom since there's no lobby. The bathroom was dirty and smelled of feces, but as my friend and I (two "white" women) needed to use it urgently, we went ahead. Today, I returned to visit the same friend, this time accompanied by my boyfriend, who is black. Shortly after arriving, he went to use the same pool bathroom. To our shock, he was met by the owner, who began screaming at him: "Hey, who the f*** are you? This is private property! Where do you think you're going? Don't disrespect me! I'm going to film you and call the police!" The owner harassed, cursed, and yelled at us, treating us as if we were criminals. He then approached our friend--the guest staying at the hotel--and told them he didn't want "those people" visiting. He ultimately evicted our friend from the hotel, seemingly for no reason other than the fact that they had a black guest. This behavior was appalling, unacceptable, and blatantly racist. Avoid this place at all costs!

I've always wanted to spend more time in Luquillo, and after seeing the consistently high ratings on Expedia and TripAdvisor--along with its beachfront location--I decided to give it a try. The property itself is older, but don't let that deter you. The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which made for a very relaxing stay. I loved the balcony and watching the ocean from so close! Beautiful sunrise too. Check-in is more laid-back, so don't expect a traditional front desk experience with someone always present. That said, the communication was excellent. I really appreciated that they reached out via text ahead of time to ask about my arrival--it was a thoughtful touch. I arrived earlier than the standard check-in time (as I had mentioned), and there were no issues at all. When I rang the bell, a staff member promptly came out to assist me and greeted me with a warm smile. There's also a very popular restaurant and bar on-site with an amazing-looking menu. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to try it this time, but it's definitely on the list for our next visit. The location is another big plus--easy to find, right on the beach, and conveniently close to a Walgreens and other nearby beaches to explore. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would absolutely stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful visit!
