It was furnished with so many cool, thrifted knickknacks, paint-by-number paintings, out-of-print books, old games and -- the best part -- a VCR with VHS tapes! Yes, people. You, too, can curl up on the vintage leather couch and watch a VHS of 1997's hit war romance Life is Beautiful (or Rocky III or 39 Steps, or one of the other two dozen tapes available in the cabin). Everywhere we looked as we explored the cabin, there was something new to see and be delighted by. The Cadillac is the largest cabin at this vacation cabin property. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a fully furnished kitchen with a gas range, farmhouse sink, new "vintage" refrigerator and a pour-over coffee maker with local coffee. It also has a large dining table, vintage leather couch and recliner to curl up in while watching that VHS movie of your choice. Or if you're not into old-school media, there's also Roku on the smart TV. Children will be delighted by the special kids nook that has been created just for them, which includes classic books and games, and a vintage record player with kids records. It turns out that all of the cabins, not just The Cadillac, are decorated with their own unique vintage furniture and knickknacks. There are 10 cabins on the property. Outside, guests are invited to enjoy a community fire pit and lawn games. There's also a covered shed with firewood that you can purchase for a few dollars. (You pay on the honor system by slipping some cash into a slot.) The cabins are located less than four miles away from downtown Cadillac. There is no one on site at the property, so you work with the owner via email to set up your stay. They will give you the combination to get into your cabin, and if you have any problems, they're only a phone call/text away. It was a very low-key, relaxing stay. I 100% recommend staying at Mackinaw Timbers if you want a unique lodging experience in the Cadillac area.

No warm welcome for us. The beds had very thin bedding--I wore my coat to bed because it was still so chilly in the room. I asked for a room near the entrance door because we had a puppy, but we were given the end of the hall and not allowed to use the emergency doors. The tv didn't work well--lots of static and jumping picture. Overall, I was cold and annoyed for getting cheated. Don't be afraid to stay, just don't expect much and bring a blanket and pillow.

Given that, we wish that the Great Room (lovely!) had been equipped with some entertainments like jigsaw puzzles, cards, or games, instead of just TV. If you like that sort of thing, bring your own! The room was spacious, well-lit, and comfortable. We enjoyed the fireplace, sitting area, work area, and very comfortable bed. We couldn't really figure out the controls for the Dish TV, but apparently that was new for the lodge and the staff was still figuring it out, too. Mildly frustrating but not a big deal. If you have Dish at home, you won't have a problem. Our only other complaint was that the furniture, sofas and easy chairs in room and Great Room, were very attractive, but not very comfortable, at least not for aching or aging backs. The outdoor seating and straight back chairs in the room and dining room were excellent, though. Shower stall (no tub in our room) was small, given the luxury of the accommodations otherwise, but entirely adequate. The food in the dining room was tasty and elegant. It's great to be able to bring your own wine, but don't forget to do so as it is a trek to a store that has a reasonable selection. This is not a great place for young children as the meals are not what kids usually like, and there isn't much to do if the weather doesn't allow swimming, hiking, and boating (or if those aren't your favorite activities). But for adults who are looking for a real break and respite from the "real world", it's wonderful!

Hair is hard to rid but when in the shower, it's gross. a vacuum works better when everything is dry. Many construction workers have to be out of town and on the job by 7. This particular Holiday Inn has complimentary breakfast at 6:30 but what stands out is they put a gate across the dining area to ensure people who have to leave early can't grab a piece of fruit and head off to work. I guess staff doesn't value the workers who chose to stay. Every other Holiday Inn I've stayed, their staff not only allowed guests to grab something quick but offered assistance. Pretty sad. So if you have to be at work early, know you aren't getting anything in your belly.

If you feel you have to work out after a long day or early morning , there is plenty of equipment to exercise available 24 hours. I had a great sleep there in a very quiet room...loved it The breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of the usual, but me not a big breakfast eater, I focused more on the different kind of coffees available. Downtown is 2 1/2 minutes with the car with plenty of food places and bars.

I was completely shocked at the experience and have now found a new place for my family to go whenever we feel a need to "get away", which is often! Upon our departure, the owner was even nicer than when we first met! I am so pleased with this place I will recommend you trying it out for yourself.
