Arrived on a Thursday at 720AM. About 12 people ahead of me in line. They open at 730AM which they did exactly on time. Once doors open they allow those with appointments to come to front of line, there were about 12 folks who had online appointments ( I checked the day before and the next one was early September). No problem parking in the lot either. So you enter, use your camera to scan a code and check in with Name and the service appointment you need ( i.e. License and Registration, Plates, etc,,) for you can choose to use the kiosk. Very easy to do. Lots of seating and a monitors all over to see when you number is called and what station number to go to. If you sign up on your phone they will also text you when a clerk is available to assist and which station number to go to. My appointment was called with 6 minutes, and they were super friendly and helpful! As I have always found the folks there to be. I was done by 748AM and on my way! So yes, depending on where you live, the drive can be a bit crazy with all the construction on 183, but once you get there, great service. Thank you! Oh and BTW I called in for some information the day before and the people on the phones lines were polite and super helpful!

Beautiful, well maintained building . Great experience.

New to Texas. Needed to get my car registered in Texas. Saw how many people favorably used this locations' services. Friday afternoon after 3pm when I arrived. 38 minutes later, I was walking out to my car with new Texas plates. Friendly, Efficient, Helpful, Knowledgeable, and Professional. That was my experience today. Wow ! Just Wow. David was the agent that helped me today, at window 7. He was absolutely all of the characteristics I described and more. Very impressive.

Omg! Great experience at the tax office. Dedrick and Adriana were so helpful. I had never had such a good experience at one of these places before. They helped me right away and they were soooo nice. A+ service.

I've been to this office multiple times to get new license plates and for other issues, but I've never gotten around to putting up a review yet. Whenever I've shown up, I keep thinking of the quote "Quantity has a quality all its own." This is the main office branch, and appropriately gets the most traffic. On the plus side, it's relatively convenient to get to and the personnel for the most part do their best with a heavy caseload. On the negative side...the big issue is parking during the peak or near-peak times. It's also usually something of a wait inside, and be prepared to be rubbing elbows with strangers. But hey, they're your fellow Austin residents, so smile and say hello (or leave them alone if they're reading/sleeping/on the cell phone). Pro Tip 1: Highly recommend that whether you have an appointment or not, try to book on the off hours. Pro Tip 2: If you can't suck it up and prepare to walk in from far down the lot. Pro Tip 3: When I went, there was a $3 service fee for using plastic. Take cash or a checkbook. Pro Tip 4: Smile! You'll get better service if you don't take a bad attitude in with you to the government clerk doing their best to serve a grumpy public.

This is the new address: 2433 Ridgepoint drive

This is no longer the Tax office! They have moved the office to a new location. The office is now at 2433 Ridgepoint drive.

Here I am. There's a send button that sends the tube. And a call button to call the people in the building

Poorly managed like the rest. Three plus hour wait to simply just pick up license plates.

Also - they charge 3% for credit card payments - pay using cash or check if you want to avoid the fee.

Ask the Community - Travis County Tax Office

Are the Drive thru still open during the COVID-19?

    Yes! And it's super quick

How much is it to get a registration sticker?

Doesn't it depend on the type of car you have? I paid $75.00 for a Honda

I'm going on Monday morning w:out an appointment for a new Texas registration. How early should I get there before opening? I have an appointment for later this month but want to go sooner. Is there a better weekday to go on?

Monday is not the best day. Still, I would go online and make an appointment. If not, you could be waiting for an hour after they open the door.

I have an 8am appointment tomorrow to get my vehicle registered/license plate. I have one page I do not have printed that I will need (back of a title), does anyone know if you can email the office paperwork or allow you to print?

Madeline, we were just notified of your question, but it looks like you were able to get that document to us by email. Hope your appointment went well. Please let us know if you need anything else.

City of Austin is an interesting place…read more The city has a variety of food options, music venues, the arts, and nature. Always good options based on what you are looking to do. But, there is overpriced housing and the infrastructure that does not meet the need of the current population. Traffic can be crazy based on where you are trying to go. The list can go on. I have alot of good memories of things I have checked out in Austin. But understand the appeal to check out other cities, when visiting.

I've visited Austin twice so far: two nights during 4th of July weekend in 2025; and three nights…read morein January 2026. My favorite places for coffee or dining include 1886 Cafe & Bakery, Bouldin Creek Cafe, Casa de Luz, Cosmic in South Austin, Draught House Pub & Brewery, Easy Tiger, Mission Burger, Mozart's Coffee Roasters, Pinthouse Pizza & Brewing, Quack's 43rd Street Bakery, The BE Hive Deli & Market, The Vegan Yacht, and Voodoo Doughnut. My favorite local breweries that I've been to include: The ABGB (Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company), Draught House Pub & Brewery, Jester King, Meanwhile, and Pinthouse. Central Market is the most impressive grocery store I've seen in Austin. These are the high-end locations of the H-E-B chain, which they have one or two of in major Texas cities. As far as country dancing, progressive two-step (travelling counter-clockwise around the dance floor) can be found at Broken Spoke, and Mavericks in Buda. Mercer Dancehall was also known for this, but, unfortunately, they recently closed. Otherwise, you find the stationary, slot-style of partner country dancing at places like Donn's Depot, Jo's Coffee on South Congress, Sagebrush, and The White Horse. It's basically Austin's version of country swing dancing. Although I've enjoyed craft beer at The ABGB, I haven't yet been there during live music, when people dance. However, judging by the size of the dance area, and photos online, it looks like the predominant style of partner dancing is country swing rather than progressive two-step. Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Austin-University Area is a quality hotel that is reasonably priced, centrally located but off of the beaten path. If you're not used to driverless taxis, Waymo autonomous vehicles are widespread throughout Austin, where they have an exclusive partnership with Uber. Based on my experience at some of the most popular cafes, food truck parks, restaurants, and nightlife in Austin, the patrons are predominantly a younger crowd, in their 20s to 40s. I've written separate reviews for most of the places mentioned above.
