I found Walter through a associate from work and emailed him for an estimate. I wanted a custom gate on the side of my house. It is in a weird place where the corridor leading to it is more narrow and suddenly it opens to a hill. I searched him online and found his project page https://www.travelweld.com/projects. I was impressed with what I found! I received a call and Walter helped me come up with an awesome design that fell within my budget. I'll post again when he finishes it!! read more

Well I hate to write an update but I must. I had a chassis fabricator look at my car and noticed this job. He took pliers and bent these tabs off with very little resistance. Zero weld penetration. Looked good but clearly was not. Check out the photo. However the rod ends he tig welded are solid and functional. read more

Over Promised, Under Delivered. Hired him to have brass parts milled out for 3 high-end shelves and then welded together. The milling was done by a third party and was on-point. However, he was supposed to drill holes in the parts before welding and forgot...which made it impossible to drill. Plus he was late by 10 days...keep reading.... The welding was done on the last night before it was due to be at the polishers (even though he got the parts back days before). Brass is difficult to weld-I get it. But he guaranteed he could do it and he failed HARD. Not only did every single one of the welds break when I bent them with my bare hands (no penetration into the material), but the beautifully machined parts that were meant to fit perfectly together were welded 1/8" proud in some areas, 1/4" short in others, crooked in most, and completely out of square where my glass shelves were meant to fit (see photos....I couldn't upload video or you'd get proper evidence). The parts were bowed so bad it was off by over 1/4" in some parts.....these were custom, very high-end shelves (a $52,000 job). I paid $4,000 for the milling plus $2,000 for the material and another $800 to polish the parts before welding so that the polisher could re-polish only the welded sections; all lost (and he scratched all the parts). Plus, he told me he could get this job done for around $6,000...and then told me afterwards that the milling was actually $5,700....but later told me that he 'Only made $800 off the $4,000 milling fee I gave him'....so which one is it? ...hmmmm He acted like he was ripped off since I never paid the remaining $2,000 for his failed welding job; but his failure not only cost me the price of material, milling, and the polishing (a total of $6,800), but I needed to completely start the project over, therefore missed my deadline, and had to give the client back 30% of the total fee (do the math-that's a LOT of money and ALL my profits). Unprofessional. Unorganized...But very nice. read more

Walt installed a gate post in a concrete base and left the concrete not only oversized and irregular but with a low spot that holds water so that the new metal post is sure to rust. After being paid he refused to return to make it right just a few days later. Said he is too busy to bother to do it for free, would have to charge me again. Amazing that a businessman can be so dismissive of his customers. Have to believe that if he treats someone this way on a small job would only be worse on a big job. Zero accountability, buyer beware! read more

Travelweld is quick to respond. Not just that, Walt does perfect work. We needed precision and they nailed it.. My company fabricates custom furniture and Travelweld welded some steel supports for us. The tolerances were tight and Walt executed the project better than anyone we've worked with before. Do not hesitate to call them. You will not be disappointed. Theyre the best. Archetypebespokemillwork.com read more

Did a great job, good communication. Was reasonably good on time, but I have to be fair my job was so small it was almost a favor. But he came, fixed the issue in a very friendly manner, then went on his way. Price was very fair. Definitely recommend if you need welding work. read more

I found Travelweld's profile on Yelp while looking for their phone number as I have another welding project for them. Like Wendi, I too cannot recommend them enough I had a couple of metal fabrication and welding jobs that needed to be done right and I am glad I trusted Walter @ Travelweld to get it done. Not only is a great welder- high quality welds - he knows a lot about metal and provides thoughtful advice on how to best go about getting a successful outcome. While visiting his shop, I saw other projects, large and small, so it seems he has a pretty good following. And what is really cool is that he is able to come to the job and do the work there if needed or you can go to his shop. read more

Travel Weld, a total ripoff. Just HORRIBLE ! I commissioned Walter to build a stainless table for a client. I needed him to come to my shop to discuss and show him the stone top that the table needed to support. He said he could do it no problem. We were installing lighting under the stone and need something that would support it and have a clean brushed finish. It took about a month to get him to come to our shop and said he would need to fly his private plane, because Burbank was too long of a drive in traffic to Redondo Beach. As we spoke he was so worried about getting a deposit, which I said was not a problem. I just needed a price to work from so I didn't go broke funding the project. He came once to look at the job and get a deposit ($1000). We gave him a 3D drawing and gave him the specs we needed, a few changes were made as we found that the design may not support the weight.. Then a month later finally came down to deliver the Stainless Steel (being a professional welder I would think he could get the metal fast, guess not), which I had to then pick him up at the airport, because he couldn't get an uber to deliver the metal. The Stainless Steel was very ruffly brushed, not smooth at all, I questioned him on it and he said that's the way its done. We later tested the thickness of the metal and his polisher took off .02" per side and also must have either sanded it with the wrong sanding material or used poor quality Stainless steel, it was magnetic and very grainy, not a finish at all, more like textured. He then cut some metal (about 6 pieces) and then said he had to come back because he didn't have enough material. Many weeks later after many phone calls & text messages, trying to get him to come back and finish (hearing excuse after excuse on why he couldn't come back because he was working on other projects (that's the last thing I wanted to hear) I needed to get it finished. He came back a few weeks later 10/23/17 and brought a guy to help (his other professional welder), I'm thinking cool we are finally gonna get this thing done, NOPE, he didn't have the other piece of metal yet and only did 4 spot welds. I asked can we at least get the supports to the legs on? Nope, we gotta come back we don't have time (oh I forgot you showed up 4 hours late and you need get back home before it gets dark, because you're flying). OK, when will you be back? "Next Tuesday", I replied NEXT TUESDAY? come on your killing me... Can we at least get it completed by Thanksgiving, he replied "NO WAY it's going to be at least the end of the year" are you kidding me? It was a month before Thanksgiving. He never showed up the next Tuesday, he said the polisher didn't finish the 1 extra piece yet?? I wrote him a check in good faith on 9/9/17. Over the course of the past 2 months, I begged for an estimated price, nothing. On 11/6/17 we finally got us a quote for the job, it was way overpriced.. He said the metal alone was $1100 and the polisher $575.. and his labor $2025. - $3700 that's the quote I finally got after 2 months of asking over and over for one after took the deposit. Also 3 weeks after he promised to show up the last time. On 11/01/17 I had a customer come in to our shop and when he asked about the large stone slab that was in the shop and told him what we were trying to make, he said he was a welder! Great! We sent him the drawings, I went to his metal shop the next day (as we could not use the metal Travel Weld had) and we picked up the metal. With Travel Welders design, he had 1" x 2" bars going in the middle of our light box, which didn't work for the correct light output with the space needed. We only had 2.5" to work with. The new welder worked with our original design concept, without creating voids in the design. We spent $460 on materials, the welder charged us $500 and within 2 days it was finished. It's now at the finishers shop (not Walters guy) and it will take about a week to brush finish the table (welded together) $300. Keep in mind the new finisher said its going to cost a lot more because we have to brush everything, because everything was already welded together.. It would have been less if we didn't weld yet and just do finishing touches after you had it welded. LOL..... really that was a lot more.. Travel weld charged for the poor quality work and finishing that was so rough it could never be a finish. A big disappointment, you completely wasted our time and were a total rip off... Travel Weld you can contact us for the refund you owe us, your rough unusable metal is ready for pick-up. Side note, Stainless Steels properties are lost if sanded down with foreign materials that are not meant for stainless steel and/or if too much is taken off. It does not hold it's stainless steel properties if mishandled. We would have had the stainless steel re-passivate if we kept the metal Travel Weld supplied. read more

Walter took good care of the stainless TIG welding I needed. He was prompt, accommodating, easy to work with, and good company. I will be calling on him again for the next piece of metal fabrication I will undoubtedly run up against. He has a small fabrication shop with, what looked to me to be, all the tools required to fabricate metal. He is also very knowledgeable. Sincerely, Jason Anicich, P.E. read more

I asked Walter to drill and tap a scope mount into a handed steel. He met with me the same day and did a really nice job while I waited. I've been to some of the best metal shop in the socal and it's almost impossible to get quality work the same day with out paying a exorbitant rate. On top of that he's a nice guy. When I have a choice I'd drive out of my to spend my money with someone who has skill and outstanding customer service. I'd recommend Walter to anyone needing quality metal work. read more

I reviewed many welders for a project to build a retaining wall from Corten steel. Walter was amazing in helping me get ideas and details to complete the project. Very very very happy with my BBQ pit stand that was just what I needed and the price didn't break the bank

Walter at Travelweld has always made the best products and delivered them on time. I cannot recommend them enough.

I needed a railing fabricated and installed to get my house on the market and I needed a very quick turnaround. Walter came to my house, assessed the project, and said he would do his best to get it done on my accelerated timeline. He was very easy to work with, communicated with me the whole way through, and fabricated and installed a very good looking rail, in the time that I needed it. I needed a custom mount for my speakers. What I needed wasn't that complicated, but I've never used a metal fabricator before so I had no idea what to ask for or what to expect. I was also terrified that what I needed, would cost more than the speakers. After some searching I came across TravelWeld. I called and met with Walter. He was a pleasure to work with. He eased my fears by being a genuinely nice guy, and offering advice on the best metal to use for my mount. The price he gave me was more than reasonable. Best of all, he had them made, and ready for me to pick up the next day. Having a custom item made turned out to be a much smaller hassle than I imagined. If I ever have the need for a custom metal object again, I will not hesitate to call upon Walters services again. read more
