My wife and I recently used Railbookers to book a vacation in western Canada. First thing to…read moremention is that you don't see the trip itinerary under after you have paid your money. We were first booked in a Calgary hotel near the airport. The next day we were to get on a shuttle to Banff. The shuttle picked up at 6 downtown hotels, but not ours. When I contacted Railbookers I was told that we would have to incur the charges to get to the pickup location. We were booked 20 minutes outside the city so we had to pay for transportation. I had made two calls and sent an email to Railbookers. Nothing came of the calls and the email was ignored. When we arrived in Banff, we were shuttled to a lodge, a 20 minute walk to town. Luckily my wife and I do not have any mobility issues so we were to walk down into town. We figured out the transit system, and were able to use that to return to the lodge, (all uphill). After two days in Banff, we were shuttled to Lake Louise. There was a trip scheduled in my updated itinerary for Jasper. When I contacted the shuttle company I was advised that it had been cancelled due to the recent forest fires in the area. I contacted Railbookers to inquire they said, oh yeh it was cancelled and they were refunding my money for that excursion. That's for letting me know Railbookers. I scheduled our own sightseeing tour for that day. Our journey continued on the Rocky Mountaineer with no issues. When we arrived in Vancouver, Railbookers had booked us a 48 hour Hop On Hop Off tour. To redeem the voucher we had a 20 minute walk to the waterfront, again people with mobility issues would have to pay their way there. We were only able to use one day, as Railbookers had us booked on an excursion the following day. They certainly don't might wasting money when it's not theirs. Railbookers has a long way to go before they come close to being mediocre. Their call centre people seem to be working from home and have no authority or no ambition to correct issues. The people that book excursions need a take a hard look at what they're doing. A dedicated person to your trip is needed before and during your trip to address problems that will occur. My advice is to book our own hotels and excursions and you will have control of your vacation.

Amtrak Vacations With the Fourth of July 2026 events and a…read moremajor east coast heat wave approaching, I started looking in late June for a trip that would take me across the United States from my home in Washington, D.C. to northwest Canada. While I've spent most of my free time on six polar expeditions over the past three years, this time I wanted to see the country from the ground. Amtrak Vacations exists for travel like this. I've booked a lot of long-distance family train trips between Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, and New Orleans but I arranged those trips using Amtrak's own booking customer service - a lot like booking a flight directly with the airline instead of using a travel agent. For this trip, however, there were so many moving parts - finding sleeper car accommodation, finding hotels, arranging excursions - the better choice for me this time was Amtrak Vacations (which is part of the Railbookers Group family of brands). My guide and trip developer was Amtrak Vacations representative, Kevin Guadagnoli, who was working through Railbookers. It's more complicated than it needs to be, but Kevin did a great job assembling my itinerary. I sought sleeper-car accommodations for as much of the trip as possible. Check. Kevin booked me a sleeper from D.C. to Seattle. I sought transit through Chicago and Seattle with minimal time in the U.S. Check. I left D.C. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, and after a short stay in Union Station we left Chicago and arrived at Seattle's King Street Station mid-afternoon on Monday, June 29. I sought accommodation in Jasper and Banff, with a flight back to D.C. from Calgary. Check. Kevin booked me at the Fairmont Waterfront in Vancouver for two days and booked me a 48-hour pass for the hop-on hop-off tour bus. He booked me for the Crimson Jasper for two nights, added an icefields excursion for the 3-hour trip from Jasper to Banff (making it a 10-hour trip instead of just the three hours to get from city to city). He booked me two nights at the Hotel Canoe and Suites in Banff and booked me for a 10-hour excursion to see the very popular "Mountains, Lakes, and Waterfall Tours" roundtrip offered by Brewster Transportation and Tours from Banff. Then he checked to see how I was returning back to D.C. (on a United flight from Calgary) and he booked me a bus trip from Banff to the airport in Calgary, where I would be staying at an on-site hotel. Total cost included trip coverage through TripMate, underwritten by General Global Assistance ($1,089). Including this coverage, the total invoice for all travel, including rail, insurance, lodging, and excursions, was $12,234.85. Not bad for an 11-day trip that included as much as I found during this vacation. The only glitch worth mentioning seems to be directly related to Brewster: in my printed itinerary, I was admonished that in order to take the tour from Jasper to Banff (which was to include an 8-hour tour of the icefields and the Columbia Skywalk) I needed to call 800 760 6934 "at least 48 hours in advance to reconfirm" my booking, pickup location, and time. I started calling that number on Thursday, July 2, and repeated my efforts throughout the weekend. I stayed online 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and more, and never got through. Three times I left a message asking that Brewster call me so that I could know in advance when I was to be picked up - but no one ever called me back. I left email messages with Brewster and with Kevin and no one called me back. I don't know if there was anything Kevin could have done to help. While at the Crimson Jasper the hotel staff also tried, without success, to contact Brewster. This became important because while the tour was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., I had an 8:30 a.m. conference call. Brewster called me in the middle of that call - but left no message. My conference call ended at 9 a.m. and I was at the front desk ready to go at 9:06 a.m., when I learned the tour bus arrived at 8:45 a.m. and left without me. In my experience, Brewster's failure to respond in a timely manner to my multiple calls and requests for return calls is likely a known issue that management has chosen to accept and ignore, because it apparently does not hurt the company's profitability. Brewster is an imposing presence in Banff and Jasper. There is probably little risk that they'll see a negative income impact by shutting down their offices over the weekend, particularly on the Fourth of July weekend. Still, not being able to reach a Brewster representative when I needed one was a dark point in my escape from Washington. That bump in the road aside, however, Kevin put together an awesome cross-country trip. Tons of memories; beaucoup pictures and videos, including a summertime bear looking for a meal by the river's edge; great accommodations; great experiences; great food - even on the trains. Muchas gracias, Kevin!

NOT SO CUSTOMER FRIENDLY!…read more Friday Oct. 29 walk in to Peabody, MA branch, greeted at door and sent to CS. As I handed my AAA card & registration slip for renewal the young girl says "do you have an appointment?" I said NO, I did not know I had to have one! This person then states, "well you will have to come back tomorrow" I asked why? She said because I did not have an appointment. I looked around, AND I was THE ONLY PERSON IN THIS OFFICE! I said, "so you are not going to give me my registration? She smugly says "it will show paid but, I cannot process it, you will......tomorrow. I said I understand now, you have appointments but, THERE IS NOBODY HERE! Again, this person states, we have appointments every 10 minutes and that's policy, I cannot do it! So, as you might imagine I got VERY upset and said again, "there is nobody here and you can not process this for me? Answer, "NO" I said I will just cancel my AAA membership and she said OK Thank You in a smart a$$ tone of voice! I grabbed my paperwork and walked out. I called customer service 800 number and after being on hold 20 minutes, they told me "we don't know what individual branches have for their policies, really, this is now a franchise...NO.... So AAA 800 CS NO HELP! Still in the parking lot I decide to just go on RMV website and do it online, even after taking a day off work to get this done in person. We are now about 45 minutes later, I am still outside AAA office and NOT ONE person has entered that office since I walked out! As I am in the middle of renewing my REG online I receive an incoming call, it says AAA Peabody. So, I answer call and it is the branch manager Peter Simmons. Mr. Simmons says he is very sorry, that should have never happened. I said "you heard the situation?" He stated yes, and I said "you let me walk out anyway?" He said "you were upset so I let you go!" So, Peter tells me he pulled the person off the counter and told her she did not handle the situation correctly and that's not how we do business. I again, stated that I understand that you have a policy of making appointments, which I did NOT know when I showed up. I said "you office was completely empty, and has been for the 45 minutes I have been out front on the phone! Peter tells me he wants to make it right and to come back. I entered the office at 12:06pm at this point, and a very nice young lady (Anastasia) processed my registration in exactly FOUR MINUTES, I was out of there at 12:10pm! So, the first person I dealt with who could have processed my transaction in approximately 4 minutes decided on her own SHE WOULD PUNISH ME for not having an appointment, and make me come back another day to get my paperwork! THIS IS A PISS POOR POLICY and could have been easily avoided. Mr. Simmons said it was a bad decision on her part. This person walked by me and was obviously told to apologize but, as she apologized she added, "I was following policy" So, she still thinks she did the right thing, and I have no doubt she will pull this on other members! A person that was trained correctly, and actually cared about their members could have said: "I can do this for you because we are slow and nobody is waiting but, in the future please remember to make an appointment!" That is how I would have handled it! As a side note, I went on to AAA/reservations and the next available appointment was 2 weeks out! This office was a ghost town, and AAA needs to review their reservation system! THIS IS A 1 STAR FOR THAT CS PERSON ALONE, SHE DEFINITELY SHOULD FIND A NEW CAREER! 5 STARS FOR PETER SIMMONS CORRECTING THE ISSUE, AS I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER OF AAA FOR ABOUT 35 YEARS! Thank You Peter!
