On a mission to find the perfect traditional Milanese trattoria, we decided to try La Pesa, one of…read morethe most sought after places for risotto con ossobuco and cotoletta. The menu is actually not strictly Milanese, they have items that belong to other regional traditions like sciatt or polenta taragna, fried cheese balls and cheese polenta from Valtellina. We didn't complain about this discrepancy, we actually enjoyed both dishes even if not traditional from Milan. Then we got risotto alla milanese con ossobuco, the symbol of Milanese cuisine, and it was really really good. The risotto was creamy, buttery and delicious, the ossobuco "melt in your mouth" tender and with a lot of delicious bone marrow in the bone. Fantastic. Risotto ai funghi porcini freschi was very good too. The tagliatelle al ragù di cinghiale (boar) were very good, but the tagliatelle were a bit too tough, which is very strange for fresh pasta. It felt like the fresh pasta was left to dry out and then it was not cooked enough to rehydrate it. Whatever, the ragù was delicious. Finally the mondeghili, typical Milanese fried meat balls, although delicious, were not authentic, at least according to the expert in the group. Anyway, we enjoyed the food, the cute ambiance and the service. Recommended.

We wandered over to this spot as an easy walk from our hotel without a reservation and were lucky to snag table. The back patio is gorgeous and the ambience is incredible. Cozy, green, bright, inviting. Foodwise we did a shared cheese plate, my husband had the osso bucco, and I had the eggplant gnocchi. The cheese plate was SO GOOD. Like each bite was delicious and we literally fought over the last few cheeses left on the plate. My husband demolished his osso bucco and I adored the eggplant gnocchi. So so so tasty and I would absolutely get it again. Service was friendly and drinks were delicious; the desserts definitely did not pale in comparison either. I had the chocolate cake which was delectable. I would put this on your "must try, must eat at" list and definitely swing by if you are in Milan. This will be our go to, never skip spot from here on out and we are absolutely planning on grabbing a reservation next time to make sure we can dine here.

While my husband then had ice cream with berries, they gave me a plate of assorted cookies with my coffee. What an experience!

Service was friendly, encouraged our extremely poor Italian and interacted well. I had prawns and vegetables to start and then the tagleata both acceptable without being outstanding. I have noticed a distinct lack of seasoning this trip and it must be the meals rather than me, although my head is full of flu, as others meals seem fine. To furnish the semifredo which was not too sweet, so just right. My daughters and wife were also happy with their meals, although my daughters did say the toilet, which was downstairs, was scary, given they had spent nearly an hour on Abercrombie and Fitch today, which was darker and full of scary half dressed people I wasn't sure what they were on about. The waiter recommended a nice red from Tuscany (second time in Milan so I am not sure if even the locals don't think much of the local reds. The place is small... No frills but just outside the restaurant there were tons of stickers showing their accolades for the food they serve so that was a good sign. Another good sign is the long waiting list of folks trying get a table for dinner after 9.45 pm on a Sunday night. The menu isn't long and they had a tasting menu so I opted for that. You can choose either meat or seafood with the tasting menu and you get three courses plus dessert for just €28! The first course I chose was this hake dish marinated in vinegar with carrots and onions. It was ok not amazing... If you're squirmish and don't want to eat small fish with their head on this is not the dish for you lol. The next dish is a cuttlefish and artichoke risotto. This place is known for its risotto and boy it was amazing. Never knew risotto was suppose to be cooked where each grain has a bite and not mushy.the delicate flavour of the cuttlefish and artichoke worked so well and the dish was perfectly seasoned. The dish was creamy and I found myself scraping for the last pieces of risotto on the dish! I want more! Lol. The third dish I got was grilled octopus. The dish seemed like it straight up came from the sea with the long tentacle of the octopus. The octopus was tender and have the taste of the sea... Went really well with the sun dried tomatoes. I was amazed of the beautiful colour and the texture... So tender. If you like seafood this will quench your thirst for it. It also went well with the prosecco I ordered. If you're not into seafood, stir clear from this because it is straight up a seafood type of dish... and it'll taste like meat marinated in sea water. For dessert since it was my first night back in Italy I hard to give homage to the tiramisu. The tiramisu was light and fluffy... Not too sweet... Not too much coffee flavour, perfectly balanced. As much as I enjoyed it, being the fourth dish ... I was stuffed! It's a good reminder for me when I make tiramisu that it shouldn't be too sweet and delicate and flavoured lightly by coffee. The staff were really nice and attended me well, they are pretty on point and have a great system working. I'd recommend making reservations if you can cause this place get busy!
