I absolutely love Trattoria D.O.C. There is really not a place like this in Chicago area that offers such authentic pizza and deserts like you would get in Italy. The pizzas are so light, crispy and fluffy at the same time and on the bread is everything is balanced. The deserts are phenomenal i had a Cannoli filled with lemon cream and triamasu with coffee. We met The Doctor's cousin's here for dinner on their recommendation. They had not been here for a while, but based on their recommendation, we decided to give it a try. I started out with the Calamari alla Griglia (marinated grilled squid, served with a spring mix salad). This was okay, although the calamari was a little on the chewy side. The salad was good and had a fresh taste. For dinner I got the Ragu d'Anatra (pappardelle wide ribbon pasta sauteed with a red wine, tomato and duck sauce topped with parmigiano cheese). Overall, this was a good dish, but I have to say that I couldn't really taste the duck. I wasn't sure if it was due to the small amount of duck or that it was overpowered by the sauce and cheese. My one cousin got their special seafood pasta dish. It looked nice plated, but she felt that the seafood was overcooked and on the tough side. She ended up not finishing it. The server we had was nice and pleasant, but very unorganized. She mixed up orders for drinks twice for my one cousin, bringing the incorrect beer. But in all fairness, they did not charge him for the beers. My other cousin had to tell her twice the kind of wine that she wanted. We had to keep repeating our orders to her to make sure she got them right. For some reason the server was repeating everything wrong initially. While it is always great to see our cousins and we had a good time catching up, this was just an okay dining experience. read more

I've been coming here for many years. It's one of the few local restaurants that serves cacio e pepe. They used to have half portions but I didn't see that on the menu this time. We've tried so many items here over the years but the cacio e pepe will always be my go-to. My kids enjoy the pizza. My husband typically gets the seafood ricotta but this time opted for a carbonara. My friend and I were meeting for dinner, decided on Italian and wanted to stay in the area, so Trattoria D.O.C. was perfect. I made a reservation and when we arrived we were seated right away. Service started off slow but once it was noticed our waiter was sent over and he became much more attentive. We ordered some Chianti and a salad (Pete a Gorgonzola) to share to start. The salad was a perfect start with their bread. We then ordered a lasagna and pollo al limone, which is served with a side. We chose spinach, but my friend also ordered a side of their potatoes. She asked if they could be in the lemon sauce that comes with the chicken. When the food came out, we weren't given any sauce and there was none on the potatoes, and we were also given a side of brocolli which we did not order. We told our waiter and he took it away and came back with more spinach for some reason. We told him we had our spinach, but he told us to keep it. The lasagna was excellent while the chicken was underwhelming. The breast meat was tender but there wasn't much to the dish other than the capers it was topped with. Not much flavor at all. When I got home and looked at the bill again I found that we were charged for brocolli! That is maddening since we didn't order it. The potatoes we were charged for as an extra side also said "lemon sauce" underneath, yet we didn't get any lemon sauce. Bad news was the overcooked, not particularly fresh salmon in my rigatoni. My sisters beef noodles were just awful. The pear and walnut salad had mediocre pears and walnuts (raw, not candied), super tiny bits of flavorless Gorgonzola. Dressing tasted like something store bought. The rosè was execrable. Tried this restaurant for the first time after driving by it for many years. My daughter and I had 5pm reservations, restaurant was pretty empty when we got there. The wait staff was attentive. The food options were good. I had their lemon chicken with roasted potatoes, the potatoes were a under cooked, the chicken breast was white, it needed more roasting color. It felt like I was eating a boiled piece of meat (not my favorite). My daughter had the lasagna, that was delicious. Very tasty sauce and meat. We ended with Tiramisu and gelato. Service was friendly and attentive. Cocktails were well poured and very tasty ( a Negroni and a Jameson- 7up as they didn't have ginger ale). I will be a repeat customer of their Tagliatelle alla bolognese (perfect, so delicious) and Panna Cotta (creamy vanilla with a light orange sauce). My husband and I have eaten here very often in the past 10 years. We were always satisfied with the food. the service has been good and the room is airy and nice. However, I have developed an allergy to onions . I have called and gone to the restaurant to speak to the owner to see how they could accommodate me. I was shocked to learn( they politely informed me )that they had no red , cream or wine sauce available for pasta and they were always busy and could not make up a fresh sauce. This is an Italian restaurant for people who don't know what Italian food is. My husband had the lasagna, undercooked, and the tomato sauce, I swear, was straight out of a can. No seasoning, underwhelming in every way. I had the Limon chicken. It should be a boneless skinless chicken breast with a light flour coating and pan fried. What I got was an overcooked boneless skinless chicken breast with no coating in a lemon water sauce. It wasn't buttery or even had a hint of wine or anything. Just terrible. My MIL got the spaghetti carbonara, which was the best entree at the table. We all ate it. We were pretty hungry so most of the lasagna and spaghetti were eaten. I really should have sent my chicken back but at that point I didn't care because I was just eating my mother-in-law's spaghetti. Service was fine. Wine was good. On a positive note, the prices are really good here. There were a lot of older clientele, which I have to think appreciate getting a better deal nowadays. And I have to also think that they do pasta better than anything because they had quite a selection of pastas. The lasagna would've been better had it been browned on top and not had the watery canned sauce around it. We have been driving by Trattoria D.O.C. quite often and wanted to try it. We did last night, it's an established family restaurant and most popular. I ordered a pizza, it was excellent, the crust was tender, sauce was home made and slightly sweet, the cheese was very high quality and melted perfectly , the peppers were perfectly fried and the salami was very spicy and delicious. My only suggestion the inner crust was not crispy as the perfect edges. Not an issue - while writing this I'm craving another!!! We will be back and you all should try. What a charming yet sophisticated Italian Restaurant. Nice variety of selections on Menu. Had the grilled calamari with greens as appetizer. Grilled nicely and lovely vinaigrette Greens. The simplicity of this dish allows the flavor and texture of squid to shine! I had the Linguine with clams. Very nicely done pasta cooked perfectly Al dente , nice amount of small clams throughout . I love the way the chef accomplished very nice flavor ,enhancing the natural sweetness of the clams. Panna Cotta was divine see photo below. Wonderful espresso martini. Had a fabulous Tuesday date night at Trattoria D.O.C. this past week--absolutely no complaints. Around 6pm there were maybe 2 other tables filled inside the restaurant, but many to-go orders were picked up while we were there and parties began to arrive as we were finishing up. We started with the Calamari Fritti, which was crispy and delicious. My boyfriend and I usually order 2 entrees to share, and our waiter asked if we'd like them to come out in courses which we approved of. The Pizza Bresaola came out first and I'll be thinking about that thinly sliced air dried cured beef for days to come, I'm sure of it. It was one of the better traditional pizzas I have ever had. Next up was the Spaghetti alla Carbonara. The hefty chunks of bacon MADE this dish and the noodles were perfectly al dente, so I was satisfied. We of course had to finish with a shared Tiramisu. Despite being stuffed from the last 3 courses that were presented to us, the Tiramisu was too scrumptious to not be completely finished off. The combination of flavors and texture were simply the best. The wait staff was the kindest and most attentive individuals we could have had. I think we had the slow evening to thank. James was such a delight and knowledgeable about the menu. Our water glasses were never close to empty as they continued to check on us throughout our stay. When a tiny fruit fly decided to dive bomb into my glass of moscato, it was promplty replaced with a full glass. We had a really great time at this restaurant and definitely recommend it for a weekday date night! read more

I really wanted to like this place, I tested it out and ordered the spinach gnocchi for takeout. the atmosphere is great and they have a very nice bar. the sauce and side of bread was delicious but this is the worst gnocchi i have ever had. it's COMPLETELY uncooked; it's so gummy and malleable, i genuinely think they forgot to cook it. so disappointed. :( read more
