He fixed it in a reasonable amount of time and kept me up to date on the progress. So far its running great. Great work!

I just want to say that Atlas Transmission saved the life of my car. Jimmy was so honest and…read moretransparent about the cost of everything and he seemed like a really nice standup guy. My transmission drives better now than when I first got my car. No joke, it shifts so smooth now. He said it was probably because of the seal. When they get hold they harden and it messes with the pressure. Jimmy is a small business and he strictly does transmissions. I had just come off of a really bad experience shopping around. Range Rovers Transmissions are expensive and most places quote around $6000 and do not do used transmissions. Jimmy is one of the few places that will do it. And he only charged me $1000 for the labor. That's it. After getting such high quotes from all over LA I couldn't believe it. And was worried something was wrong. But I assure you it wasn't. The price comes out to similar used places, but rather than finding the part and marking up the price and the labor. He just charges you for the labor itself. And he does the labor himself. So that's why it was cheaper. He's doing it at cost. He prefers you source the transmission yourself. If it's used, you're taking a risk, because nobody knows if a used transmission is going to work, and you being the one to source it sort of frees him of the liability. I Can't rally say, but that makes sense to me. All he said was that, he is really busy and doesn't have time to research and find it for you. He Couldn't take my car till the weekend, so it made sense to me. I"ll tell you what, Jimmy recommended a site, but I went an https://www.car-part.com/ and found 4 transmissions from GERMAN KOREAN AND JAPANESE AUTO DISMANTLING and they were great. The Transmission is tested and verified to work with a 90 day warranty. They ship it directly to the shop. I picked one with lower mileage for a few hundred dollars more which was $1700. Plus Jimmy's labor made it $2700. Best deal in town. LIterally the best quote in LA. I had to research and order the transmission fluid myself as well. So it was also at cost and my choice which brand. It was a litte more leg work on my part, but the cost is literally the cost of it with no mark up. Other places told me a used transmission was in the range of $1700 and quoted me at $3000-$3600 similar to transmission super shop. So it checked out. The difference was, a lot of places were actually marking up the cost for profit quite a bit. Some places had given me a quote in that ballpark and then later when I called again a few months later quoted me closer to $6000. Jimmy on the other hand, the price was the price. No surprises. The Risk was just on me to source a good one. And I feel like all in all it worked out for the best. I should thank transmission super shop for telling me no. Because that helped me keep looking around and find Jimmy at Atlas Transmission. I should also thank Beach Cities for being honest about their prices and recommending Jimmy to me. That's how I found Jimmy, an honest shop that doesn't do used, recommended Jimmy as the guy they send people to. And I'm glad they did. My Car is driving great. I didn't have to sell it. And I saved a little money. So if you need a transmission and replacing it with a new one is outside of your budget, Jimmy is an option that worked for me. I can vouch for him.

I met Marco in September 2013. I had recently purchased a 1969 Road Runner from an out of state…read moreonline vendor. My first venture with an online car purchase. Needless to say, when the car was delivered it didn't look like the pictured version, and needed oh so much deferred maintenance. I firtst took the car to a local classic car restoration shop in Torrance. In less than three weeks, I was taken for over $4,000. Anywhere there could have been a fluid leak, there was and then some. After the final "OK now you need this" from that restoration shop, I visited Marco the owner of Lomita Transmission. The diagnosis (each diagnosis at the first shop cost $185, and not applied to the suggested repair), was for a repair that would not have resolved the concern ( suggested dome light switch replacement). When Marco diagnosed what he believed to be a connection issue, having nothing to do with the dome light, I asked him how much the diagnosis would cost. He smiled and said there is no charge to diagnosis the problem. I then asked Marco the cost to repair the starter motor. The first shop told me the repair would be $1300. When Marco told me $400, I almost passed out. That repair ended up being $410 (with tax). I left the car with Marco on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, 2013 to look into the "connection" issue. The next afternoon, at Thanksgiving dinner with my family, Marco sent me multiple pictures of the engine compartment wiring harness that was literally a fire hazard; several wires had melted together. Marco went on to completely re-wire the engine compartment and under the dash. He then systematically brought a car needing 44 years of deferred maintenance back to life for me. In the process, I learned how technical restoring a classic car was. Each step of the way, Marco updated me during each repair what the issue was, and what really needed to be done to correct the problem, while mindfully parntering with me on cost. He would explain the needed component, and the labor cost to complete the repair which I really appreciated. Marco doesn't just repair or replace parts. He puts his heart and soul into everything he touches. For Marco, it's never about the cost of the repair. For Marco, it's about doing the right thing, for the car and for the customer. Marco now over sees the maintenance for my two daily driver's also. Most recently, my 2004 PT Cruiser needed a water pump replacement. Marco felt bad that the repair would be just about $2,000 because of what is involved to get to the water pump. That is because to get to the water pump, half of the front end of the engine would need to be removed to complete the repair. While doing this repair, he suggested replacing the 20 year old timing belt ($54.00) also, due to the age of the car. He suggested that I call the Chrysler dealer to see if maybe the repair would cost less. As instructed, I did call the dealership that has been handling the warranty work for my other car. The Service Director I've been working with for several years, who I also trust and has taken very good care of me told me the same repair would be over $4,000, and suggested that Marco would be the way to go. Don't you just love honest caring people?

WORST AUTO REPAIR SHOP EVER!!! We had a very disappointing experience with Sam at this mechanic…read moreshop. We brought our car in for repairs, but after their work, the vehicle had additional problems that it did not have before. Instead of resolving the issue, the situation became even more frustrating. When we raised our concerns, the mechanic was unprofessional and yelled at us rather than addressing the problem respectfully. I expected honest communication and quality workmanship, but unfortunately received neither. I trusted this shop with my vehicle and left feeling frustrated and unheard. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this shop and would advise others to proceed with caution. Very poor customer service!!!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience…read more I brought my vehicle in for a routine oil change with Sam, and immediately afterward my car began leaking a significant amount of oil onto my garage floor. Prior to the service, I had never experienced this type of major oil leak. Because the amount of oil leaking was alarming and made me feel unsafe driving my car, I stopped driving it and took it to another mechanic that was located closer to me for an inspection. Upon arrival, they immediately noticed the excessive oil leak. After inspecting the vehicle, they determined that oil had leaked throughout the engine bay, saturated the drive belt, and was actively leaking onto the floor. They advised me that continuing to drive the vehicle could have resulted in serious engine damage and that I was fortunate the vehicle made it to their shop. According to the second mechanic's inspection and written findings, the excessive oil leak was caused by a broken oil filter O-ring associated with the recent oil change service. As a result, they had to replace the O-ring, perform another oil change, replace the oil-soaked drive belt, and clean the oil that had been sprayed throughout the engine bay. This left me with hundreds of dollars in unexpected repair costs that I would not have otherwise incurred. I documented everything with photos, videos, repair invoices, and written findings from the second mechanic. When I contacted Master BMW and spoke with the owner Sam, instead of accepting responsibility for the findings, I was told that my vehicle may have already had an oil leak. However, the second mechanic's inspection, diagnosis, and written documentation identified the oil filter O-ring from the recent oil change was the source of the leak. Sam offered the option of having my car towed back to his shop (Master BMW) for inspection, but after experiencing a major oil leak immediately following the service, I no longer felt comfortable having additional work performed here. Once I re-did my oil change with the second mechanic (in order to identify the leak), I was then told that because I had not returned the vehicle to Master BMW for them to inspect, they would not provide a refund for the oil change, reimburse me for the resulting repairs, or take any responsibility for the damages. To make matters worse, I had already been without transportation for several days and was informed that the owner, Sam would be out of town until the following week. I could not wait another week without a vehicle, so I had no choice but to pay another shop to repair the damage so I could safely return to work. What disappoints me most is not that a mistake may have occurred - mistakes can happen in any business. What is disappointing is the refusal to take accountability after another mechanic identified and documented the source of the leak, as well as the unwillingness to work toward a reasonable resolution despite the additional expenses, lost time, and inconvenience this situation caused. I've uploaded for reference on how bad my oil was leaking.
