I just want to say that Atlas Transmission saved the life of my car. Jimmy was so honest and transparent about the cost of everything and he seemed like a really nice standup guy. My transmission drives better now than when I first got my car. No joke, it shifts so smooth now. He said it was probably because of the seal. When they get hold they harden and it messes with the pressure. Jimmy is a small business and he strictly does transmissions. I had just come off of a really bad experience shopping around. Range Rovers Transmissions are expensive and most places quote around $6000 and do not do used transmissions. Jimmy is one of the few places that will do it. And he only charged me $1000 for the labor. That's it. After getting such high quotes from all over LA I couldn't believe it. And was worried something was wrong. But I assure you it wasn't. The price comes out to similar used places, but rather than finding the part and marking up the price and the labor. He just charges you for the labor itself. And he does the labor himself. So that's why it was cheaper. He's doing it at cost. He prefers you source the transmission yourself. If it's used, you're taking a risk, because nobody knows if a used transmission is going to work, and you being the one to source it sort of frees him of the liability. I Can't rally say, but that makes sense to me. All he said was that, he is really busy and doesn't have time to research and find it for you. He Couldn't take my car till the weekend, so it made sense to me. I"ll tell you what, Jimmy recommended a site, but I went an https://www.car-part.com/ and found 4 transmissions from GERMAN KOREAN AND JAPANESE AUTO DISMANTLING and they were great. The Transmission is tested and verified to work with a 90 day warranty. They ship it directly to the shop. I picked one with lower mileage for a few hundred dollars more which was $1700. Plus Jimmy's labor made it $2700. Best deal in town. LIterally the best quote in LA. I had to research and order the transmission fluid myself as well. So it was also at cost and my choice which brand. It was a litte more leg work on my part, but the cost is literally the cost of it with no mark up. Other places told me a used transmission was in the range of $1700 and quoted me at $3000-$3600 similar to transmission super shop. So it checked out. The difference was, a lot of places were actually marking up the cost for profit quite a bit. Some places had given me a quote in that ballpark and then later when I called again a few months later quoted me closer to $6000. Jimmy on the other hand, the price was the price. No surprises. The Risk was just on me to source a good one. And I feel like all in all it worked out for the best. I should thank transmission super shop for telling me no. Because that helped me keep looking around and find Jimmy at Atlas Transmission. I should also thank Beach Cities for being honest about their prices and recommending Jimmy to me. That's how I found Jimmy, an honest shop that doesn't do used, recommended Jimmy as the guy they send people to. And I'm glad they did. My Car is driving great. I didn't have to sell it. And I saved a little money. So if you need a transmission and replacing it with a new one is outside of your budget, Jimmy is an option that worked for me. I can vouch for him. read more

I had the BEST experience with Atlas transmissions! Jimmy is honest, professional & so nice!! Atlas transmissions did a phenomenal job on my 2014 Honda CRV! I took my Honda to the dealer and they wanted to charge me $6000 for a new transmission. Then I called around and they weren't as expensive as the dealer, but still expensive. Not only did Jimmy give me a great deal on my transmission, they did a fantastic job. Jimmy sent me photos of the transmission that was being put in my car, & kept me up-to-date and did it in a timely manner. Jimmy also told me to come back in a month to make sure everything was running properly. It's been about six months now and my Honda is running great!! I couldn't be happier with this shop! I walked out to my garage two weeks before a trip to Utah to discover a large puddle on my Jeep. The seals in my automatic transmission had given up after 34 years. Atlas was busy and a job on the rack took a little longer than they expected which delayed my drop off by a couple of days. Regardless, 2 1/2 days after I dropped it off I got a call that the Jeep was finished. The Jeep drives great and there are no leaks or drips (at least not from the transmission!). Their shop is small and it looks a little chaotic with all of the transmissions in various states of repair but they know what they are doing. Also, Jimmy is as honest and genuine as they come. 2001 Honda Civic, 40K miles, tranny was acting up... reverse ok but drive no go. Engine light on with trouble code about shifter solenoid. Problem was intermittant. Jimmy correctly confirmed transmission ok except for solenoids were getting iffy. Not an uncommon problem in his experience. It took a day to get the part... part & labor $350. So the aftermarket performance flywheel was giving me issues which has nothing to do with Atlas and more to do with my lack of research. My husband's Toyota completely broke down and our mechanic said it's the transmission. He suggested us to check prices with several transmission shops before towing our car. We called 5 different transmission shops. 1 never returned our call back as promised. 1 is not sure but quoted us really high price. The other 2 quoted us quite high as well. Horrible, they did my transmission and I had to take my truck back 11 times due to over heating, they charge half the amount of every transmission shop in town. They finally paid for me to go to another shop, when the shop took it apart they found that they didn't replace all the parts with new ones and that's how they make it cheaper!!! read more

My jeep wrangler was brought here by another service station to have the transmission done. The guys said it was both the tranny and the differential, bummer both! Jimmy called me to explain so I went down there and he showed me all the parts that needed to be replaced. I really appreciate being walked though, since its incredibly tough for most people to visualize the integral parts of the drivetrain. Jimmy's great!!! I brought my QX60 in for inspection. It's always experienced the dreaded Nissan CVT jutter and Jimmy explained all my symptoms even before I could tell him what I was experiencing. He was thorough in explaining the poor CVT design and the details in what needed to be done to properly rebuild my transmission. do i have to give one star? I was reffered here by a trusted mechanic in redondo beach. I had a warranty issue concerning my transmission. When I went to the shop the first time, I was turned away by the mechanics that said I had to come back when the owner was there. I finally found this guy outside there one day after many phone calls went unreturned. He told me that he would contact my warranty company and call me back. I asked him, "do you want to drive the car" and "get a feel for what it is doing". He said, "No, but if the warranty company calls you and asks where the car is tell them that we have it. We'll call you in a couple days and tell you what to do. They never called me. I called them multiple times and got the voicemail cause they are never there. I finally got the female on the phone, and she said, " Oh yes Max, the warraty compay will only cover 1500 dollars, how would you like to pay for the rest?" You have't even looked at my car or driven it I told her. "Oh really, she said, well I'll call you back." No call back. If these guys aren't crooks they are really bad businesspeople. I had my Transmission repaired here, I was originally referred by a local mechanic to Jimmy since he specializes in transmissions. Jimmy was so nice and professional he even took time out his day to come to my house to diagnose my car for free. He told me right away it was the transmission and gave me an estimate. There was no pressure from him to get it fixed right away, I did finally call him to get my car fixed and since my car wouldn't drive all the way to Torrance he had my car towed to his shop (at no extra charge to me) he picked the car up late Monday night and it was fixed Friday Morning. Very fast and professional service. I would highly recommend Jimmy to others that are having issues with transmission. They ripped me off. I didnt know about cars and thought my tranny going bad. They charged me over 1200 bucks said it was bAd. The car still ran like crap and I took it to another shop. It was the fuel pump. Atlas didn't sign off the work guarantee because after they check the tranny it was still leaking!! They say they had to fix that to make good of the work warrantee. Atlas got a solid recommendation from my mechanic, Leo, at Signal Hill Foreign (a 100.00% reliable guy). After trying to reach them on the phone for 2-3 days, I drove up to Torrance and dragged someone out of the shop to look at my '02 Volvo: hard up/down shifts and mas "flare" when hot. They tracked down the Owner, Jimmy, and he told me I needed a rebuild and quoted a price about 1/2 that of the Volvo DealerMan. (Volvo doesn't repair any trans with over 85k miles, apparently). But -- Whoa! Jimmy drained my tranny, read the tea-leaves, and decided I DIDN'T NEED an expensive rebuild! He replaced the worn-out valve body and solenoids and she's shifting like a young Swedish gymnast again. Cost about 2/3 what he'd estimated, and like 1/4 of what the evil Vovlo DealerMan likely would have run. As Steppenwolf wisely said: "Goddamn the Volvo DealerMan" (paraphrasing). Atlas is still the craziest, messiest shop I ever saw but I have to give it up for them; Jimmy- 1.) Sweep floors. 2.) Answer phones at least once a day 3.)
