This review is long overdue, I forget to review Transmission's by Hal when he fixed my car in early May. I had to bring (my baby) my vehicle to Ron on the grounds that my baby was making a commotion when I drove and particularly when I was making a turn. Commonly I'm use to going to the dealership, this time I said self, why don't you try out Transmission's by Hal, he's in your neighborhood. I recently moved into the neighborhood and had been told by my "very informative neighbor" that Transmission's by Hal is individually owned and has been in the neighborhood for 32 years. Pulled up to Transmissions by Hal and started talking to the owner, what my neighbor forgot to inform me was that Hal is no longer and now it's Ron, the new owner. I addressed Ron about my issue and he did a brisk test drive. He expressed it might be something with the transmission and my underlying belief was, goodness man, this is why I should have taken it to the dealer, this man just wants money out of me, he thinks he can tell me anything. One of Ron's employees came and did a brisk test drive and he was rapidly ready to frame a sound theory with respect to the transmission. Now I was astonished that they could make this conclusion on the grounds that other auto shops said something else inside and out. They got my baby back to me inside of four days, when he at first, a week was estimated. He made a special effort to get the parts that was a requirement for my repair. My baby runs like new. The staff was amicable, clear and experts in their profession. This was one of the best encounters that I have had at repair shops. This is certainly one shop I will come to once more. Great service, surpassed my expectations. Thank you Ron at Transmissions by Hal read more

I came here for an assessment on my car since I didn't believe the last technician I took my auto to. I clarified the issue and the last place had separated the battery and eradicated any analytic codes the auto had so they needed to drive the auto around and go by what I was stating. They had my auto for a couple days, the correspondence was awesome which is the reason I am giving them a 5 star review (I simply needed to call them every day to get updates, also they were very forthcoming with all the data. (They never made it appear as if they were attempting to lead me a specific way). In any case, I'm happy I got my baby back in great condition, which I was so appreciative for. The shop truly demonstrated to me that Ron is a genuine man-he had initially let me know he would not charge me for diagnosing the issue and seeing as they had it a couple days and were running various tests on it I acknowledge not charging me. Be that as it may, I additionally think they didn't charge me since they knew the new part wouldn't alter the issue. In any event at the other transmission shop I would have paid $600 for another new part in my auto that didn't alter anything. So yes, I would recommend this spot . One of the other guys even gave me a ride back (Cant remember his name) when I dropped off the car which I believed was helpful to me on such a crazy day I was having. The other transmission shop simply left me without a friend in the world and were not decent about much. read more

I, like many others, am afraid of my transmission. Seem that when something goes wrong, no matter what, it's going to be expensive. I good transmission shop, among other things, just tells you how it is and doesn't worry about being the messenger of bad tidings. Ron and Rick at Transmission By Hals (btw, who's Hal?) Have this gift among other things and handle the fact that most customers are coming in afraid to hear the news. Well, this time, it was a good story. My transmission starts making a noisy (goes "bump") when it is in neutral. So, I take my car into Transmission By Hal's. Ron and I go for a ride. I'm hearing 'hmmmm' and 'uh huh' from Ron. He asks me when's the last time I changed my transmission fluid. I actually couldn't recall and I get another 'uh-huh', 'alright'. We get back to the shop go into the office and I'm thinking 'this is going to be bad'. Ron says, 'well, we need to change your fluid out to even get an idea. You could be one of the lucky ones and all you need is a fluid change. I have him do it and guess, what, I am one of the lucky ones or these guys are 'Transmission Whisperer's'. The fluid change was all I needed and the sound is gone. Ron said I'm good to go and to come in more regularly and get my fluid changed before something worse happens. read more

Transmissions by Hal was recommended to me by a friend of a friend. My transmission on my 2005 Ford Explorer went out instantly. One morning I got into my truck attempting to go to work. I went to put my car into reverse to back out of the garage and it wouldn't budge from the parking gear it was struck in that position. I tried for about five minutes, making sure my feet were on the brakes while I tried to shift gears. Nothing happened. I went inside and got my husband so he could attempt to get the truck to change gears. It didn't. I called triple AAA and had them to it to the Ford Dealership. Of course for them to just take a look at the truck, it was going to cost me. $150.00 for a diagnostic test, yeah right! My husband off the top said it was the transmission, and wanted them to look at it. They wanted money. Once I got Ron's name I had triple AAA tow it there. Ron knew off the top of his head that it was my gears. He fixed the problem that day and my truck is running like brand new again. Thank you Ron for explaining the problem in layman's terms and fixing it quickly. I will recommend you to anyone I know who has a transmission problem. Thanks Again! read more

I found this place on Facebook. The best part about this shop is that it opens at 7:00 am. I was able to drop off my car right after I was done with my 5:00 am yoga class and before I started work at 8:30 am. I know nothing about cars, that is a fact. Ron could have told me the car needed a new sizzle stick and I would have believed him. That is why I took my boyfriend in with me. Honestly, I could have gone in by myself and been totally fine. Ron was quick and didn't use some weird mechanic language. He just straight up gave me the facts. It was just a fluid leak! Since this happens often, Ron said he's a pro at it! He said to leave the car with him and it should be done in a short while. Customer service is definitely a plus! Although I hope my car doesn't have any more transmission problems in the near future I will definitely be back and recommend Transmissions by Hal to my friends! read more

I've had Transmissions By Hal work on almost every family members car or truck in the last 20 years I've been in the area. Ron is a great business guy to work with, and I can't really find any complaints. When you have a good experience with someone in the auto business, you hope that when you recommend them to a friend or in my case, my mother.....that lightning will strike twice and they have the same great experience. She did. Since that time, I don't even think twice about sending someone his way. The most recent job was my son's 95 Dodge truck. The repair was straight forward and easy to understand. Months later.....the truck, with 250,000 miles, is still doing its job. The next one to head his way will be my daughter's 2005 Toyota, it has a code that won't clear. I have no worries, its one of those places where I know the job will get done right. read more

You northern Californians are lucky to have Transmissions By Hal here. I'm vacationing on at one of the RV parks on the Delta and the transmission my dually that I pull my 5th wheel with started making some awful noises...not what you want to hear when you are on a cross country trip. One of the locals told me about Transmissions By Hal, so I gave them a call. One of their technicians, Rick, said bring in my truck and they would figure out the problem. Well, I'm not a car guy, but there was issue with my 'linkage' and I was leaking fluid badly. Duh, me, didn't even notice the fluid spot under the vehicle. The owner, Ron, got the parts needed the next day and had my truck out the door 2 days after I brought it in. Hey you Stocktonians and Lodians, Transmissions By Hal should be your choice for all your transmissions service. read more

This week, I was provided with excellent service at Transmission by Hal, and I truly appreciate it. As a single parent, I can tell you that the prospect of having to spend over $3,000.00, according to estimates I'd received elsewhere, was a dim one. Thankfully, I decided to opt for one more professional opinion before having my car repaired. Your mechanics discovered that the real problem was due to a filter, and were able to replace it. Needless to say, I breathed a sigh of relief! I am highly pleased with the professional manner in which your mechanics serviced my automobile. You have definitely gained a new customer who will refer all of her friends to Transmissions By Hal. Transmission by Hal is one of the good guys.... read more

First of all, there is nobody named Hal here. It's simply the name on the building. However, Ron is the best. The man knows his stuff, no doubt about it. Now, let me tell ya... I went in thinking I was going to spend an arm and a leg on a mediocre job. Although the repairs needed on my 2001 Honda Civic didn't come cheap it was nothing compared to what the other guys charged. Ron sounded like he knew his stuff and he gave it to me straight. The leaks on my driveway and whining noises were a clear sign that my transmission was damaged. Ron said the job could be done and boy, was it done. My car was done on time and under budget!!! My car has never run smoother. Thanks Ron and Company!!! read more

These guys are top of the line. 10/5. I actually re-activated my yelp account just to leave them a review. Without a doubt, the gentlemen here, especially Ron. Has been the most honest, reliable, and best experience I have ever had at any repair shop. I wish they did everything under the sun because I wouldn't go anywhere else! I just wanted to say thank you so much very for the honesty, professionalism, and compassion all you folks at this shop had when dealing with me and my truck. These guys are definitely worth a thought and consideration if you are in need of any of their services. I wouldn't rather go anywhere else. Thank you again for all your help and honesty. read more

Some positive feedback..... Transmissions By Hall - Cherokee Auto Center We contacted Michael Herren and took my mom's truck in for several things including an oil change, air conditioner repair and Freon and she wanted to have a specialty horn add it onto her little truck. They were able to schedule the work in less than 24 hours and beat others price by over $100. The truck was ready to go in just a couple hours. Customer service was great and the speedy scheduling and local convenience was very nice with a busy work schedule. Nice to have a local trustworthy mechanic. Highly recommend using Transmissions By Hall - Cherokee Auto Center. read more

I was a little apprehensive about where to take my transmission. Do my research and luckily a coworker told me to go to transmission's by Hal I took out my transmission and took it down to them they rebuilt it and then I went home to reinstall it. They warranty there work even with me installing it myself. It worked great, even better than when it was new. Put parts in that were superior then stock parts. Almost 2 years later and I have a problem they took a ride in no questions asked I had it working for me within a few days. Can be more happy with experience I recommend them to everyone read more

I walked In asking for Hal...Little did I know...It;s ran by Ron O. He knows transmissions. Been in the business since 1984 from what I learned from talking to him. I took my SUV into him thinking it was going to cost an arm, a leg, and maybe another body part as well...but to my surprise it was half the price of the budget I allotted myself. I was definitely happy. Then to get have by vehicle repaired sooner than expected..icing on the cake. Thanks Ron, Rick and the Whole Transmissions by Hal Service Crew. read more

The guys over at Transmissions by Hal know their stuff. Had a transmission rebuilt there in 2007 and my transmission is still working great because of them. They also worked on my differentials. They did a geat job of swapping out the OEM differentials and replacing them with lower gears. I will come again, if I need a tranny or just about anything. Ron and Rick are great and they are always there when you need them. If you need a transmission/axles to be repaired go to them first. read more

Hal's transmission has treated me very well. I have a kit car (hot rod) that requires an expertise to work on as it has a Chevy transmission with a Ford rear end. The work was done without a hitch and in a timely manner. On another occasion I needed some work done and I went to Ron for advise, and he immediately put the car on their lift, changed the part and did not charge me! I would call that going above and beyond for service. read more

Been going to Transmissions by Hal for a long time. Service and honesty is why I keep coming back here. I dont know why all the bad reviews. They've always taken care of me when I have a concern, issue or warranty work. They've always tried to resolve all my doubts. Keep up the good work and as always, I will continue to keep coming back. Just went back and got my baby serviced. Quick and courteous. Thanks Ron! 6-22-16 read more

These guys are life savers! Ron really was able to help me out when my transmission went out on my truck. They are very professional, reasonably priced and got my transmission rebuilt in 10 days. Their pricing was transparent and upfront; exactly what was discussed prior to them beginning the work. I would highly recommend this business and will definitely use them again in the future! read more
