Manual transmission 2013 Chevy spark 157k miles. Paid transmission Technology $308 for diagnostic, they told me they ran it and did not find any issues. "Brysen" reccomended a fill service fluid change. Over $700 for diagnostic and full service tune up on transmission and here I am 4 days lat picked up car Wednesday June 3rd 2026 and Sunday June 7, 2026 car is on side of road , wont shift at all. Had to have neighbor come pick me up stranded . I cant trust to go back to transmission technology if they didnt get it right the first time. I feel cheated to say the least read more

Friendly and descriptive of the issue with my transmission. The length of time from my initial contact until the diagnosis was about 45 days and cost a few hundred dollars. The quote given to rebuild the transmission was $8,000. The national average is $1,500 to $3,500. I ended up placing the order of a rebuilt transmission from a different source with a 3-year warranty. The cost was $2,350 plus $350 freight forwarding. My total cost of a rebuilt transmission is $2,700. I feel that the team is knowledgeable but also price gouges. I would not recommend based on cost alone. I have just made arrangements to have my local mechanic do the transmission swap for a flat fee of $1,200. My total out of pocket cost is $3,900. Less than half of the quote to rebuild. read more

A huge thank you to Brysen and Corey, the trans on my 2006 F150 was about to grenade. Living on the 1/4 mile most of my life I called fellow transmission gear heads on Oahu who immediately sent me to TransTech. Brysen is honest and straight forward and assured me of all options and cost. The trans rebuild took them a bit of time but you never know what's damaged till you open the case. I assured him to take their time to do the quality work requested with upgrades which was done. They took the extra steps to also check my drivetrain from rear seals to u-joints. My racing days are far behind me and over the years I've learn to truly respect the honesty and quality of skilled workmanship. This truck will be a keeper and know this trans will live along it. TransTech will always be my go to shop and shall always refer everyone to them. Again a huge "Thank you" to Brysen and Corey and my fellow old school drag racers who referred me there. read more

I called Bryson at Transmission Technology to fix my 2008 Toyota Highlander. The check engine light was on with the VSC(automatic vehicle control) off indicator iight blinking on my dashboard. I had to wait three weeks for an appointment since they were booked solid. Finally when they checked my car it took two days to figure out the problem and all the estimated costs. Bryson explained to me he needed to replace one of five solenoids in my transmission. Fortunately that solenoid could be accessed easily but he told he needed to replace all the transmission fluids and that he only used genuine Toyota parts which even though it was more expensive they were more reliable and dependable in the long run. Three weeks later I have driven my car on long commutes and it runs super smooth. It even seems like my gas mileage has gotten a big boost too. I highly recommend Bryson and his crew for any transmission work for your car. They are really worth the wait and paying a decent price for labor is a great deal. Their work on my car was done quickly, correctly and efficiently once I gave them the okay. read more

I Own A 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee With A 5.7L Hemi With An 8 Speed Transmission Which Is My Work (Patrol) Subsidized HPD Vehicle With Little Over 136,000 Miles. Sending all my aloha to the team at TransTech. I was told they were pono and knew what they were doing and they 100% live up to their reputation. Called and made an appointment for 5 weeks from that day but I knew it would be worth it. They called me the day before to confirm and told me everything that was going to happen. It was a smooth drop off and call later that day. They saved the trans by doing a full service/double flush and some compound to help it stay together. Car went from shuttering hard between 20-30 mph to like brand new!!!! Magic workers - i tell you. Look no further! Always bringing my cars here! Mahalo nui loa! read more

Brysen and the guys at Transmission Technology were great! I brought in a 99 Tacoma that was driving terribly. They took a look at the transmission and test drove the truck, charging a diagnostic fee (which is put towards any work you decide to have done). They found the issue, ordered the part, and did a full service of the transmission. The truck is driving great now and all for a reasonable price. The communication was fantastic and I was able to somewhat understand what was causing the issues as Brysen explained it simply enough for me to grasp. They also put me in contact with a local car rental service as I live in Volcano. Impressive work and much appreciated. Mahalo read more

I was driving and heard the commercial for these guys and decide to give them a try. I had my transmission serviced and wow! what a difference. 88K miles and it feels brand new. While not inexpensive, the job they did has made me customer for life. Thanks for the excellent work! Well worth the money! read more

BEST. TRANSMISSION. SHOP. EVER. And better than any mainland transmission shop I've ever used. my mechanic recommended this place and sure enough i had a great experience here. Bryson's customer service was friggin' impressive --- really superb all the way from my first phone call all the way through giving us back our car. my car is a 1994 with about 275,000 miles on it--- so when the tranny started malfunctioning I figured the whole car was just done---- but my mechanic encouraged me to take it to Trans Tech--- sure enough they diagnosed it to be a repairable electrical issue and $439 later I had my crappy old car back running better than ever. It hasn't been shifting this well for a LONG time. Damn, I was kind of looking forward to getting another car, oh well, LOL. It's $98 to diagnose your transmission ...but if you actually have them do the repairs then they don't charge you the diagnostic fee, just the repair. read more

Excellent service! Much Mahalos to Bryson and the rest of the team for their work on my Mini! Brought in my work truck ( 92 Chevy flatbed with 200k ) to have the trans serviced and also do the rear end differential at same visit. They have done work on our Subaru before, tricky with the all wheel drive. I'm confident having Bryson and his staff work on our vehicles when we need it. They do top notch work and great professional service, I know other places may charge less but No Thank You Very much to Lex. I depend on my truck to make my living and I depend on Transmission Tech to take care of my truck. Nuff said you guys are the best. read more

I purchased a em2 Civic, a car notorious for transmission problems. NOT EVEN A YEAR AFTER while driving home from work my car stopped moving but was still revving. I knew it was a transmission issue, so I initially got my car diagnostics tool and got a trouble code. After trying to trouble shoot it myself and failing miserably I got my car (& the shift solenoid I removed myself like a idiot) towed over to Transmissions Technology for a diagnosis. Let me start by saying Brysen and Corey are awesome! They gave me a quote for how much a rebuild could cost me through them and even let me shop around for a used/remanufactured transmission. I opted to go with a remanufactured transmission from O'Reillys but I explained that I still wanted the labor to be done by Transmissions Technology mechanics. They held onto my car for me for several weeks while I waited for my transmission to arrive (it was a huge help to my family financially) Keeping in mind the year and model of my car, I knew the chances of running into similar problems were likely. So when Brysen suggested investing in a Hayden Automotive Transmission Cooler, it was a no-brainer. Not knowing what it was initially, Brysen explained the primary functions of the Hayden is to keep the transmission running at an ideal temperature in doing so it can help prolong the life of my remanufactured transmission. Brysen and Corey explained everything to me clear as day. Car runs like new. I trusted the right guys! I personally wouldn't have one of those cheap mechanics do this complex work. If you are having transmission issues, look no further than Transmissions Technology. THOSE GUYS ARE THE BEST. -Jeremy read more

This place is a total scam. They quoted $5500 for a job that the P&L breakdown would fall under $3000 on the high side. They refused to justify the cost, because they are unable to. This is indicative of a company who preys on people who are uneducated in book rates and parts costs. read more

I had an appointment set first thing in the morning. Got there a little early and proceeded to wait over four hours for the head tech to come in. He comes lolly gagging in with out a care in the world, looking like he's been partying the night before, finally looks at my car for fifteen minutes then charges me the ridiculous diagnosis fee. The shop in kona has a good reputation, I would choose that one! read more

When you need transmission service, you need to go to a transmission shop. When you need to go to a transmission shop, you need to go to Transmission Technology period, end of story. Here is my story. I purchased a used 2006 mustang with 120,000 miles on her a few months ago. She had service on the transmission last year, by a non-transmission repair shop. The automatic transmission started slipping, shifted too fast thru gears and sometimes stalled when engaging either park or reverse. I had met Vic at my place of business, Aloha Fitness Club, when he was promoting the car show/bodybuilding competition that was going to be held in Kona a month later. I got on the phone and Vic immediately made a three way call to get the Hilo site on the line to go over my problems and make the appointment. Day of the appointment, Bryson met me and went over the issues I was having. I needed a ride back to my place and the conversation with Bryson, was as if we knew each other. His knowledge is amazing. We talked about the suspension work I was going to do next, after the transmission work was complete. He explained that they also do other work as well, and even build race cars. That comment struck a cord and it would come back later. I received a call from Bryson a few hours later. He explained to me in detail what they found and what the best plan for me to do. They completed a basic transmission service and added conditoners that would help to heal my poor transmission's seals. Here is a tip folks, don't wait until you have issues, you need to service your transmission every 15,000 miles. Luckily, mine is doing better and Vic says to let the conditioners work their magic over the next month or so. When I went to pick up the car, Bryson again was friendly and knowledgeable. He went over what they found and what they did. The even offered a free inspection in 15,000 miles and tagged my windshield to remind me. All in all one great place to get your transmission serviced and feel good about it. Back to Bryson's comment about doing other work....sent them an email with the planned suspension work I need. Stay tuned. read more

These guys deserve mad kudos. A big mahalo to Bryson and the Hilo team for sticking with it when things get tough. After a few hiccups with locating parts and having to work with other repair shops, they persevered and got my car back to me in great working order. It runs better than it did before. Not only is commitment and quality the priority, I really felt like Bryson was on my side and doing his best to get the job done right. His communication was stellar and I truly appreciate him keeping me informed. That is a quality that is hard to find in business. It's hard not having your vehicle but know if it is in the hands if this crew that they will take care and do it right. Aloha Transmission Technology! read more

Of all the places I've taken my vehicle since moving the Hawaii this place was the fairest, and most of all showed genuine customer service. The Big Island is a Sh*t-show when it comes to mechanics ... Every other street has a vehicle (or 4) that is busted and left on the side of the road, if not stripped and ditched, as everyone's second cousin is a mechanic. The prices are crazy here for even just tires (but it is a rock in the middle of the ocean so beggars can't be choosers), but this place exceeded my expectations with their ability to get the job done, even if it does take the whole day, they got comfy couches, Netflix, and are located in Hilo so you can walk to anyplace for food, a beer, or even the park ... Mahalo for the courteous service, and caring about your customers, not just the bottom line!! read more

The best auto repair in Hilo! Been here with two different cars. Both times other mechanics told me a total transmission replacement was required. Both times Trans Tech told me simple repair. Got out for less than $200 BOTH TIMES. What luck that I found this place! They do regular service too. I won't take my car anywhere else from this point on. Seriously it's the bomb. Bryson and whole crew were nice and explained things in detail. Helped me to understand why I need a new 02 sensor. Mahalo to the entire crew! read more

These guys are awesome. Have been here a few times with 3 different cars. Bryson is super friendly and I believe them to be very honest. With my first car they let me shop around for my own transmission that needed to be replaced to see if I could get a better deal than what they found me. I did find a used tranny online and they agreed to put it in for me for a very reasonable price. In total my beloved Honda CR-V sat there for about a month or 2 till I could get the transmission and have it shipped. They did not charge me for storage or anything like that. If you are having transmission problems, go here! We thought the tranny on our old truck was shot but these folks were honest and let us know it was just the lines running to the tranny which is way cheaper than the tranny itself. Thank you Bryson and TT! read more

Great customer service! Brycen was very professional, was able to answer all of my questions (and I had a bunch of questions) and even picked up and dropped off my car for me! My 2006 Toyota Tacoma is pushing 150,000 miles. No current transmission issues but their due...... Took it to Transmission Technology in Hilo for service. Bryson took my appointment over the phone and was there to receive my truck. He was extremely knowledgeable and courteous. Not having any issues, he scheduled by truck on a day when their workload was low so they could get my truck in and out in a reasonable time. Job took a few hours and, luckily, there were no major issues. When I picked up by truck, Bryson took the time to go over every item on the invoice and explain why it had to be done. Immediately, I noticed that the transmission was tighter and ran smoother. Hopefully, my transmission will be able to handle another 100,000 miles. I highly recommend Transmission Technology for your transmission needs and, even if you do not have transmission problems, you consider having it serviced to avoid future costly repairs. read more

Brysen and his team helped me out tremendously!!! After running over a massive lava rock, my truck was leaking fluid as fast as we could pour fluid in. They have no integrity. It was so disappointing because when we first brought the car down they were so nice and seemed to care. But we ended up towing our car in and towing our car out. When we talked to the owner about our grievance he promised to take care of us. When we went down to the shop to receive what he promised he went back on his word and ignored what he said he was going to do. They have admitted that they did not know what was wrong with our car and "tried" to fix it. All we left with was a large bill and a car that still did not work. Thankfully we towed the car somewhere else and it was fixed and is still running great. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE. read more
