I needed an emergency transmission flush after a radiator issue and a spectacular breakdown, the mechanic who repaired my car recommended me to go to Transmission Technology immediately to get a it done. Despite them being super busy they helped me out. They were so so helpful, kind and squeezed me in that day. Vic and his team are dedicated and experts. I felt treated like family. The communication was excellent, they sent thorough updates via text, photo and video during the process. I know nothing about transmission flushes but they explained in detail the issue and process before, during and after. Absolutely recommend them! read more

If you want it done right, this is the place. Uncle Vic at Transmission Technology went above and beyond in fixing my transmission and helping me understand the issue I having with it. His expertise and friendly interaction were the best I've seen in all of the automotive repair business, here on Big Island and anywhere on the mainland. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

I am so grateful to Uncle Vic for his guidance with my transmission replacement. I am so in love with my vehicle and was devastated to find out that it had such costly and time consuming issues. Uncle spent hours with me explaining everything, and even though he is EXTREMELY busy he went above and beyond with me to help me through this. I can't say good enough things! read more

Vic and the whole team at Transmission Technology are so welcoming, transparent, and impeccably professional. If you are like me and usually mistrust your mechanic, I recommend you come here instead! I have just left the shop and am so beyond pleased with my service that I could not wait to post a review. I can't recommend this shop enough, you will not find yourself in better hands. Vic called me several times to update me on the progress and the price was incredibly fair, they actually saved me some money by repairing a part instead of ordering a new one! Many many thanks to everyone at Transmission Technology, I know where to go in the future and recommend my friends as well. Blessings! read more

First off, when it comes to automotive repair, I'm usually a little worried if I can trust the mechanic, probably because I have no clue if what I'm wing told or charged is correct. When it comes to Transmission Technologies, I saw that they do so much for our community, how can I not trust them. I inherited a Toyota which finally went over 100 miles so knew I needed to get the transmission serviced. In addition, my serpentine belt started to squeal intermittently so thought idbetterngetnit fixed before I break down on the road. From start to end, Vic, Gwen and his team were amazing! Pleasant and courteous with Vic taking the time to explain the work needed to be done and why! The price, extremely fair! They have not only won my business but my referral too! read more

The maintenance light on my Chevy came on needing a Transmission fluid change. We didn't know where to go and starting searching the web. Reviews are important to us and hope this review will direct you to Transmission Technology. We found Transmission Technology on Yelp and scheduled our appt., it was about a month out and believe me the wait is worth it. When we took my Chevy in, Vic thoroughly explained the process- in detail and told us he will call to give us updates. He called and texted with a diagnostic report so we knew exactly what was going on. He told us what my vehicle needed to run to the best capability. While working on my Chevy, Transmission Technology sent pictures of my vehicle on the rack and the trans fluid- before and after. (Side note: We did research to learn what the industry charges on Transmission service.) At pickup, Vic went over the order and what took place. He told us the cost in the beginning so we knew what was expected. The cost is very reasonable, fair, and above all the service exceeded what we paid. Transmission Technology took care of my vehicle from start to finish- even checked the other fluid levels. We will be sending our other vehicles there for servicing and highly recommend you do too. Mahalo to brother Vic and staff! read more

Vic is a gem on the island and provides amazing service that blows you away. I thought we had a transmission leak on our 2006 Toyota Sienna, but when my wife went in to have it inspected, Vic tracked it back to a coolant leak. He took pictures and sent them to me, explaining that the transmission is solid, but needs fresh fluids and filter. He showed me where the coolant leak originated, which is a common failure point behind a plate covering the engine heater port for those in cold climates. Be sure to schedule your service asap since they're always busy. But it's totally worth the wait for the thorough. --- Update after taking our Sienna in for service: The tune-up was so thorough and Vic explained every detail, down to the consistency of the bottom of the pan contents. It now shifts so smoothly and like new, which is amazing for having 170,000 miles and being 14 years old! Taking my Frontier in for a tune-up next month and will always trust Vic to keep my vehicles running all over the island. Having a mechanic that is so trustworthy and capable is like gold! read more

On top of being two of the nicest folks my wife and I have had the pleasure to meet since we moved here last year, Vic & Gwen went above and beyond to help me with getting my truck ready to ship off the island!!! Vic is an absolute walking encyclopedia about transmissions! I'm very grateful to have met them. I will be sending them some beef jerky once we get to Albuquerque NM. Thank you again! I just moved to the big Island in February. I left behind an amazing mechanic. I had a Subaru Baja. And not many people will even work on it. But these guys checked it or and we're honest about what needed to repair my baby. It's hard to find any honest mechanics. But these are now my go to guys! No surprise prices and they tried to help me save money on parts. Family owned business which I love supporting the locals. I encourage anyone who needs vehicle work to go here first! They also do other repairs, not just transmission issues. I'm a big reviewer. And I will keep posting on all local businesses and updating on them as well. So far this is another highly recommended place! Aloha! read more

Vic and his team provided some of the most comprehensive and detailed automotive service I have ever experienced. I scheduled my 14 year old Dodge truck in for a standard service since I'd been working it pretty hard. They went to work on her right away, and within a few hours I received an detailed text (including photos and video!) of the diagnostic and information about the state of my transmission. The amount of detail Vic went into about how the truck's transmission was running and it's overall condition was incredible in understanding the state of my truck. Fortunately for me it was all good news! As another review said, Vic and his team are gems and you won't go wrong trusting your transmission to them. read more

They offer great prices ... and friendly service I would recommend vic anytime v.s. the other Transmission shops...

Top, top experience with Vic, Gwen and their team. Excellent, high quality customer service from the first interaction, all the way through each team member i interacted with to the very top. Everything was explained before, during and after so there were never any surprises. there was time spent on care and treatment going forward and a request for follow-up conversations. Market-rate prices for top of the line service. Its everything you want from a shop but never get any of. Wish there were more stars to rate them with. read more

Excellent customer service and quality of repairs. Gwen was super friendly and helpful when I first took my truck in to get looked at. Service went above and beyond--the techs found other things going on with my truck that my previous mechanic had ignored or not fixed correctly. Thought I needed an entirely new transmission, but they were able to diagnose the problem and not charge exorbitant prices for the service. 10/10 would HIGHLY recommend. Mahalo Vic, Gwen, and team! read more

My car was not even drivable. I had to work. Vic and the boys took great care of me. They assessed what was wrong. Explained everything in detail, understandable even by a non-mechanically inclined person like myself. They got it fixed as soon as they could. Price was reasonable, the service professional and personal. I even went back later to get some advice, and they were happy to help me. If you even think it's a transmission problem this is the place to go. read more

As a former mechanic, I can vouch that rebuilding/servicing transmissions, compared to engines, is not only science, it's an art! Vic is the best scientist and artist with transmissions! I highly recommend Transmission Technology. They are fair, honest and extremely knowledgeable. I was refferd by a German Auto repair shop to Vic in Kona and I called him about my 2003 V W Jetta because my transmission was really acting up. He told me over the phone just about everything you can imagine about my auto transmission. I knew right then he was the guy. I made an appointment and took it in as soon as they had an opening. October 1st of 2019. They spent about an hour or so on diagnosising and called me and said everything checked out just fine. But I still had the issue. He recommended that I do a complete flush and filter replacement. I really grilled him and he said if it was his he would. I trusted his judgment and had him do it. I am so happy I did. He fixed my problem. I am so grateful!!!! My name Dennis Stoddard I am new to Hawaii and live in Hawi. Call me at 503-201-6205 and I will tell you about my experience in person. read more

The crew at Transmission Technology are very knowledgeable. They are sincerely nice people. Vic has done great work on both of my vehicles. (transmission full tune up service on a 80s 300zx car and rear end oil change on a Jeep Comanche) Reasonably priced....Usually they run an ad in the paper for a discounted trans tune up service: look out for. All in all if you are looking to do some preventive maintenance work on your transmission.... Transmission Technology is a good stop.....also if you do major work there talk with Vic or Zion about how to keep your transmission in top shape. My transmission went out in my diesel pick up. After dropping the oil pan, to take a look at the damage, I found a broken piece which turned out to be a broken band adjuster. This isn't something that the auto parts stores carry and I needed to get my truck fixed asap, so I called the first transmission shop I could think of. Expecting to get the "welp, you have to bring your truck down so we can take a look" response, Vic answered the phone and was surprisingly considerate of my situation. After describing the broken piece, he knew exactly what I was talking about and offered to sell me the part. I went to the shop and Vic was busy outside working on a car but he stopped what he was doing, took me inside the shop, provided me the parts I needed and showed me how to install it in my trans. Thanks to Vic, my truck was back in operation the same day and it only cost me 50 bucks! Vic is very knowledgeable, friendly and a genuinely good guy! Mahalo Transmission Technology Kona! read more

Vic, Gwen, and their team are amazing. Not only do they do great work, but their service is unparalleled. They are so nice, professional, and keep the aloha spirit alive with their service. I have never had a mechanic be as communicative as Vic. He took pictures of my transmission service all the way through and explained what was happening so there were no surprises, and I had total peace of mind knowing that he had my best interest and my vehicles best interest at heart. If you need transmission service or transmission work done here on the big island please go see transmission technology as you will not be disappointed. I greatly appreciate the efficient and professional service provided. A diagnostic was done and several issues were identified. The technician explained over the phone in detail the situation, parts needed and the cost. The work was completed the same day. At the end of the day a detailed report was provided in person and discussed everything that had been done. Pictures of the parts were also provided. I am very happy and relieved that everything was addressed. I have every confidence in the staff and their work ethics. Thank you for my peace of mind. read more

My truck shifter linkage broke and I was stuck in Honokohau Harbor. The tow company driver fixed it so that I could drive to Transmission Technology in Kailua-Kona. When I called them I spoke with Gwen who told me to bring it in and they would get to it ASAP. She was very nice over the phone which made me feel a little better about my situation. When I got there I met Gwen and Vic and my first impression was what nice people they are. Vic took the time to explain to me exactly what was needed and 90 mins later my truck was repaired and the cost was very reasonable. When I have a truly exceptional experience with a business I like to give them kudos and I can't say enough nice things about this company. This shout is far overdue, and after today I swore I would yelp these guys. Huge Mahalo to Vic and his gang Trans Tech in Kona. I can't tell you how reputable this family is. Zion was a huge help in facilitating my drive up clutch diagnostic without an appointment and took great care of me and my 3 year old. He made us feel at home in his space and gave us a ride to the store, because of my little girl. Mahalo Zion, you've made a 3 year old friend! 2 hours later after fabricating a custom clevis/pushrod which Vic seemed excited to weld, he handed me my keys and told me "have a good day, it's on the house". You'd swear things like this never happen. Just goes to show you what type of business Vic is running. A truthful, compassionate, honest one. This is the kind of establishment any individual would want to have, to trust. One with integrity. We visit Vic no matter what the problem is. Not only transmission related. They always make it right. Thanks again friends. * * * * * read more
