You might have to zoom in a bit, but this is the current Friday/Saturday evening menu. Looks pretty good.

Hadn't been here before, despite it having a great reputation. It looks brilliant: retro without being scabby, and it has lots of charm to it. The weekend evening menu also looks interesting, and would definitely be something that I would give a go in the future. It was nicely ticking over when I was there, it felt nice and lively, and it felt like a place you could stay for a while. I definitely think if I was in that neck of the woods I would go here. The missing star is due to price: I had a bacon sandwich, and while it was lovely it and a coke came in at £4.75. Even though I was sitting in I think this is a little on the high side. Having said that, I think if I was going for a full breakfast or brunch it would be pretty good value. I think the food I had would definitely come back.

Whilst Clare S was 'lifting heavy shit' in the gym, I wander round to get some breakfast here. What a great little place! It's got a very casual, spartan, second hand vibe kinda thing going on, from the old bus/tram seats to the decor, and I like it. I immediately felt very comfortable and ready for some food. I ordered a coffee, a fresh orange and french toast with cinnamon banana and honey. The coffee, a latte, arrived in a tall glass mug, and was perfectly split with a dark coffee in the bottom half and a lot of milky foam in the top half, not quite a latte but it was tasty enough. The food arrived after a short wait, I wasn't in a hurry and had a book with me so was quite happy, and it looked delicious. I can confirm that, after the first couple of bites, I was hooked, the addition of the cinnamon really helped and I scoffed it down pretty quickly! I asked for another coffee and told the waitresses I'd pay for everything as I was gonna sit outside and read for a while (it was a beautiful morning) and she happily totalled up my bill, let me pay and brought my next coffee out to me. Looking at some of the previous reviews it seems a bit hit and miss, but I had no complaints the day I was in and I'll definitely pop in the next time I'm in the area.

The Trans-Euope Cafe has such a cool atmosphere. We went for breakfast one weekend and I think we were lucky to get a seat at all but the staff made it work without us having to wait for more than five minutes. Once settled I ordered the full breakfast and my partner got the French toast. I don't say this lightly, but that breakfast featured probably the best scrambled eggs I've ever tasted. They were perfect. I wish I knew what the secret was because I don't want scrambled eggs any other way ever again. It really feels like the kind of cafe you could sit in all day but they're so busy I'd start to feel guilty about not giving them their table back. That said, by the time we were done they were starting to get a little quieter so perhaps they normally have a lull around mid afternoon.

Hee hee, you can tell by my boyfriends fists that he was ready to devour the food! Not before I snap a pic! The Venice, on ciabatta!

I was so nervous I was going to have to one star this place, but our experience went from "what the?!?!" to "alright, cool". It was our anniversary yesterday and my boyfriend, having had a late night with the guys playing pool and watching football at the flat, was in need of a good meal, and STAT. I had already had breakfast, and it was nearing lunch time, but he was wanting breakfast. We decided to venture here to see what all the fuss was about. The place was packed. So much in fact that we walked by twice to see if any seats had opened. By the time we walked by that second time, a table had opened, but hadn't been cleaned yet. The only waitress motioned for us to sit down and she would clean it off for us. What we didn't realise upon deciding to sit was that she was the only waitress and there was no chef working, so another waiter was in the back cooking. "what the?!". It took her about 15 mins to clear the table and finally bring us some menus. I was lacking the patience my amazing boyfriend has and probably suggested we leave a few times, but we stayed. I'm really glad we did because the food was delish. My boyfriend decided not to go for breakfast items, but instead we ended up ordering the same thing. The Venice sandwich. Grilled chicken, pesto and mozzarella. Heaven. I have this love for pesto that is never satisfied but on random occasions like this. Our grilled paninis came on a selection of breads, we went for ciabatta. They also came with some slaw, a mixed salad and a small handful of crisps. We were pleasantly surprised at how good our food was! We felt bad for the girl, who had a mega attitude when we first came in, but we were nice to her, which in turn helped calm her. She ended up turning away 3 couples who came in because the kitchen couldn't keep up, so by the time we left, the place had cleared out a bit. This place is great fir breakfast/brunch/lunch, its just really small and a bit overwhelming for the staff when they are short people. We will be back for sure, I'd love to try the French toast next time!

Have been dying to go here for dinner for ages. Had brunch a few times but whilst eating my brunch, have been eyeing the dinner menu. Probably everyone has described the interior, won't spend too much time describing that. Only thing I would say about it at nightime is that it feels more cosy and romantic. The dinner menu was made up of about 5 staters and 5 mains. We never had a starter as were not mega hungry. For mains I had chicken with black pudding and potato fondant. My boyfriend steak and frites. The food was sublime. The chicken was moist and the black pudding amongst the best I has ever tasted. The star of the plate was the potato fondant. Creamy, velvety, moreish, potato. The steak was also lovely and tender. We never had deserts. Can't wait to go back to try all 3 courses!

Brunch club on Sunday was to tempting to ignore after all the good reviews I have read on yelp for this place. First impressions were slightly poor tbh, they did not have a table for us and changed their minds about taking a brunch booking. Thankfully they eventually had room and after a ten minute wait we got all got seated. It's got quite a retro feel to the place and I like the maps on the wall and the general throw back style of the the decor. One complaint though is the chairs and tables are not very comfy, they look retro and cool, but a bit cramped when your 6ft 3. The food menu looked pretty good and I was set on the eggs royale with salmon. It tasted superb, there was loads of sauce and the eggs were cooked perfect. I am afraid though for me the portion seemed a bit small. I could of done with another egg and a couple of slices of toast on the side. Seeing as it was after 12 noon on a Sunday I decided to check out the beer menu, for a post brunch beverage. Unfortunately it was pretty poor with only peroni and fustenburg on offer. I went for the former and everybody else ordered what they were getting, but it felt like it took ages to come. Almost like they would have rather we moved off the table than order more drinks. Don't get me wrong, the eggs dish I got tasted awesome and I don't think you would be disappointed if you ordered it, but I just don't think the overall dining experience was good enough that I would be rushing back. All ok, but nothing amazing.... well apart my new AWESOME Brunch club mug!

My 4 item breakfast. I picked bacon, sausage, black pudding and scrambled egg with wholemeal toast. Yummy!

This is a fabulous place to go for brunch. Their all day breakfast is so filling you probably won't need any dinner later! Their sandwiches are named after European cities, and are all delicious! I always look over the menu on each visit, but 8 out of 10 times I'll get the Spanish omelette. Filled with chorizo and mozzarella it is fantastic! Their coffee is also tasty, and they have a small selection of beers. On Friday and Saturday you can also have a tasty dinner here. Their evening menu changes fairly often, so you are not stuck with the same choices all the time. On my most recent visit both myself and the boyfriend had the pork loin, with apple purée, mixed greens and black pudding mash. Yes, you read that correctly, black pudding mash. At first I thought there was a missing comma on the menu, but no, an it was soooo tasty! It wasn't overpowering, quite subtle, black and white mottled mash ftw! For such a small place it has a decent sized menu and drinks selection, and the owner is on hand most of the time, and he is brill. Very chatty and always glad to see you. Sometimes the service can be a bit slow (I prefer relaxed!) if they are full to capacity, but the kitchen is only wee! I'd recommend heading there on a weekend evening if you want good, tasty, non fussy food, with a great atmosphere, and always a good place for breakfast/brunch.

The music connoisseurs among you may recognise the title of this place from a similarly titled Kraftwerk album and as the name suggests, this is no ordinary cafe. The seating includes vintage bus seats, bringing originality and charm to this quirky cafe. The hands-on owner of this indie eatery is hard to miss, welcoming customers with smiles and banter, as he boogies along to his impressive choice of tunes. On top of all of that, they also serve smashing food. I marvelled at the lunch menu of appetising sandwiches, each named after a European city. After much deliberation, I opted for a Lisbon (with peppers, mozzarella and pesto), served with potato chips and delicious home made coleslaw, for just £4.95. The combination of good food, charming decor, friendly banter and decent music makes this place the perfect hangout for hipsters, musos and foodies alike.

Our reservations were for 8:30pm, because it was for dinner and a show, for that night we had a 5 course meal, it was canapés with Champagne, French onion soup with gruyere crouton, salmon tartar, roast fillet of Aberdeen Angus Beef with slow roasted tomatoes, Portobello mushroom, onion ring stack, red wine sauce & béarnaise, Baked Alaska, and ended with a cheese board. The meal was delish, and really for being 5 courses, the severing sizes of everything was more than I expected, I had a nice size of the Aberdeen Beef, maybe almost a solid 8 ounces. Everything was prepared perfectly and had great flavor, this was an excellent 5 course meal! The show, oh my gosh, let's just say I LOVED IT!!! it started around 9ish, and went all the way to Midnight, there was acrobats, sword swallowing, fire eating, can caning fun to be had! And that's just bits of the show, it was live singing too, every performer is talented in their skill! I really couldn't think of any other way of ending 2015 and bringing in 2016, this was such a treat! So if you are looking for a fun night, stop by Wild Cabaret and give it a go!

I was lucky enough to be my friends plus one, so didn't need to pay so even better. We arrived and we were escorted to one of the big plush booths. As we were on the guest list we did not eat, so I can't comment on this. The decor is decadent and very cabaret. Lots of gold, black and leopard print. There is a stage in the middle with all the tables round it. There is table service, this adds to the glamor and makes you feel special. We ordered drinks that came quickly and the staff were all helpful and friendly. We arrived just in time for the entertainment, every week is different so it does vary. A few of the folk I was with tonight have been before and said that the line up tonight was especially good. The entertainment consisted of gymnasts, a guy using silks, a mind reader, sword swallower (was great but made me feel uneasy), can can dancers, burlesque, a singer (who we joined on stage for a dance at the end) a hula hoop girl, but my highlight was JC a guy who dresses up like Jesus and dances (it really needs to be seen, to fully get it) the compare was also hilarious and kept everything running smoothly. I really enjoyed the night and will be back.. Highly recommended..

Oh. My. Flock. Was this pop up one of the best I've ever tried? Yes, yes it was…read more Flock Pop Up by John Traynor (formerly of the Porter & Rye, Lebowski's Group) showcases Scottish food in relaxed settings. This one was hosted at Seb & Mili which is a fab cafe in the city centre and it made for a great dining spot in the evening - relaxing and comfortable. The 8 course menu was £35pp and actually, in the end, I think it was underpriced for all the delicious food we scoffed. Starting with warm bread and a piece of crispy chicken skin, I was immediately impressed. The chicken skin was crispy yet still a little chewy, and tasted all the better for being topped with liver pate. Moving onto the next course (which was fabulously introduced by the front of house staff) which was beetroot with crowdie cheese. There was a lovely granita through the dish which really elevated the dish from being just beetroot and cheese. Scallop ceviche was one of the stand-out dishes for me - I love scallop, and this was so soft and delicate and really did justice to it. It was a refreshing dish too, so even though we'd eaten a bit by this stage, it felt like a nice intermission before diving into the heavier dishes. I really liked the pumpkin seeds with it which were a bit unusual with a ceviche. The only dish that I didn't love as much as I hoped was the duck, and I think that's purely because it was served warm rather than hot. It was a large slice of breast with the skin still on, and absolutely delicious flavour combinations (gingerbread with duck?! Yes!). But for me, I would have liked it a little hotter. The final main was a 60 day aged rump steak by Rodgers Butchers. This was the best steak I've had in my life. And I've had a lot of amazing steak. It was just so soft and buttery, delicate and mouthwatering. I lingered over this dish because I just didn't want it to end. It was served with a stack of barley risotto and kale which I appreciated as something completely to what you normally get with steak while being very Scottish and modern. Onto dessert. If you've ever read a review of mine, you'll know I pretty much never have dessert. I just don't have a sweet tooth and have some issues with dairy so avoid it. The first dessert was a popcorn panna cotta which was very mild in taste and a nice fresh way of leading into the chocolate mousse. The granola crumb was excellent. Finally, chocolate mousse with peanut butter ice cream. I actually preferred the ice cream to the mousse, it was chunky PB with a massive amount of flavour. Just delicious. So what else can I say about Flock Pop Up? We had a fabulous night - it was relaxing, intimate and the food was well paced. We were actually in a hurry as we had a gig to go to, and so managed to scoff all that food in 75 minutes. Other tables were taking their time which is understandable! I loved the attention and respect that was paid to local Scottish produce and really felt like that was the champion of the night - everything was sourced locally, from the duck to truffles and beef, and it was really nice to see a chef do Scottish food in such a modern way.

Gosh, I really want to give this pop up more than three stars as I'm well and truly appreciative of…read morethe fact that I won a dinner for two, but my experience here was just a-ok. Set in Seb and Mili's, Flock Pop Up set up shop to give diners a casual yet sophisticated dining experience showcasing Scotlands local fare at an affordable price. Even though it was casual, Sophie K and I decided we were going to dress a step above casual and we felt as though we fit right in with the rest of the crowd there. Our reservations some how got mixed up but they were able to accommodate us which was great! We were sat as soon as we got there an were brought the menu which laid out what was on for the evening. We knew it was BYOB as Sophie K noticed it on Twitter, otherwise, we wouldn't have known to bring anything to drink. No worries. First out were warmed rolls and smoked butter. I am a huge fan of anything and everything smoked, however, this butter left me wanting more smoked flavour. If anything, it was more of a knob of butter with a bit of smoked salt sprinkled on top. I couldn't really taste the smoked salt once I spread it on the bread. None the less, who doesn't like a warm bit of bread? Next up was the crispy chicken skin with liver pate. Normally, I would pick the skin off any meat that I eat, but I figured I would give this a go. The taste of the chicken skin brought back memories of my tubbier childhood days where I would eat the skin off of chicken and quite enjoy it. The liver pate, although not a favourite of mine, was almost unnoticeable given the chicken skin was so flavourful. Not a negative, but a positive as I don't normally eat liver pate either. (I'm such a bore). The next course was the beetroot with crowdie cheese. This course was made by the cheese as beetroot on it's own is pretty flavourless. I ate this plate in a hurry as it was pretty tasty. The next course was the scallop ceviche. I'm not exactly sure where to begin with this one. Of all the dishes, this one was probably my least favourite. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love scallops, but I've discovered, unfortunately through eating this dish, that I'm not a fan of raw scallops. Besides the fact that there was a huge amount of scallops on the dish, the frozen apple confused me and brought nothing to the dish. The duck was probably my favourite dish of the night. The only thing I will mention about all the dishes, especially the meat dishes, is that they were barely luke warm which was a little off putting. The duck was perfectly cooked, but lacked temperature, so it was a little strange eating it. Everything about this dish was perfect, including the blackberries and the gingerbread puree. I would eat this dish over and over again. The steak was indeed another tasty dish, but again, it was a little too cool for my liking. Instead of it feeling like a sophisticated dish, I felt like it was needing a roll and ju to turn it in to a steak sandwich. I wasn't a fan of the pearl barley risotto, it tasted too much like a scotch broth, without the broth and the steak could have used a bit more ju. Along with the duck, the desserts made me happy. While I've never had a pana cotta, this one had the texture of a hard boiled egg white, which was a bit odd to me. It did, however taste like popcorn which was amazing. The lemon curd stole the show and I would have gladly eaten my body weight in it if given the chance. I also absolutely loved the chocolate mousse and the peanut butter ice cream. By far my favourite of the two. The wee touch of banana also made the dish interesting. Over all, the meal was good, but there were just a few things that made this a three star versus a four star experience for me. The food came out rather quickly which was nice, but all of the food was either cold (meant to be) or just barely warm when it should have or could have potentially been piping hot. The wait staff and the chef were all very lovely and accommodating, which is always great and the location of the pop us was cozy.

We were able to be seated upstairs. This place is busy (much busier when we were finished for sure). So if you can, I'd suggest reserving a spot. It's a bit loud in here. Not out of the ordinary for a busy place. We started with the pressed pork belly app. Perfect crisp. Could've used more of the celeriac puree bed. The confit shallots were so good and nicely sweet. Black pudding cubes (small. More of these!). Candied pears. Mmm. Great start. Wife got the char grilled venison on a butternut squash purée and spicy daikon planks (I didn't find the heat, she did tho!). It was excellent and perfectly prepared. Not gamey at all. I got the 35 day aged hangar steak. This is hands down one of the best steaks I have had out in a very long time. So well seasoned! Which was such a pleasant surprise as it left me wanting for nothing to add flavor. The hand cut fries were good but did need some salt. No dessert as, well, our server was scattered a bit all night. We asked for the dessert menu. She brought us dinner menus and we didn't see her for 10 minutes. So we opted to leave, a bit disappointed at the end. We would come back tho. Thats for sure.

It was a rainy day: drizzling : that consistency of rain that makes you feel a bit run down. I was met with the most delicious, warming coffee: a very smooth latte, that had such a lovely taste that there was no need for a drop of sugar. They were out of most of their pastries by the time I sat in--due to their popularity, I have no doubt. I chose one of their remaining items: a small cake that had a touch of lemon and a raspberry on top of a creamy frosting. It was delicious--a welcomed treat when I felt in need of a pick me up. I did not have a chance to test their food so am unable to comment. Do note however: This is a VERY small place. Cozy to be sure, but small and by no means for larger groups. It is ideal for the soloist and duos to come in and have a fairly quick coffee, cake, and food (I assume). This is NOT a place to study. There are no comfortable lounge chairs, chairs or tables. The seating is composed of stools that reside at two bars. It's kind of reminding me of Italian style cafes where you drink your espresso at the bar, across from the barista who just served it to you (though in Rome, they don't offer you stools even!). Given the level of their coffee and cake, I'll be back again soon.

There are no bathrooms which is a downfall but it was close enough to our hotel. I got the chorizo bagel both days I went and a latte. They have display cases of baked goods and sandwiches. When I ordered, the toasted it. It was filling and had a spicy kick in it. Very good! The bagel was crispy and good too!
