Jamie at Training Aces has been my go-to caregiver, housesitter and dog trainer for 8 years. I wouldn't have it any other way! We have a 2 year old Mastiff who has had all of her basic obedience training. She's a sweet girl who gets along with everybody, people and dogs alike. Pictures of her playing with a Chi Chua Chua are too cute. But, there were two behavior problems we couldn't fix on our own. The first is that she could go from zero to ten in excitement level seemingly in a split second. When someone came to the door, this docile sleepy girl would bark and run out of control full speed from one end of the house to the other. A 130 pound dog running out of control is a recipe for disaster for grandkids and adults and houses alike. The second problem was though she responded very well to "come" when in the house, it was a different story when off leash at the dog park. We'd say "come" and she would look over her shoulder as she continued on her own merry way. Jamie came to both our home and to our dog park so that he could observe my wife's and my own behavior as well as observe first hand the behavior of our dog. He spent time watching and asking questions. He gave us homework to do between visits. And he thoroughly explained why he gave us the assignments he did so that we would understand why we were doing what we were doing. In addition to home visits, we at one point boarded our dog with Jamie for three days and Jamie used that time to continue and reinforce the training. Now we have the dog that we never in our wildest dreams thought we'd have. When the grand kids are here, (3 yrs & 6 yrs.) she can usually be found lying down maybe 7 or 8 feet away. When their toys are all over the floor, she ignores them. When they're eating at their own kid sized picnic table (right about chin level for the dog) she goes no where near them. And when they pet her, she just stands there and wags her tail. Her biggest fault with them now is to give an unexpected and uninvited sloppy kiss! When the doorbell rings, I simply have to say "hey," and she quiets right down. When guests enter the home she's not permitted to run up and greet them. Only after everyone is in and settled do I let her know that she can now greet them calmly. Now at the dog park, life is good. When I say "come" she stops whatever she's doing and comes. Even if she's in the midst of playing with one of her dog friends, she comes. To avoid any escalation, I've called her away from an unfriendly and snarling dogs, and she responds instantly to my command to "come". Sometimes she's off and sniffing something and then discovers that we're now maybe 50 yards ahead of her and she comes a running! And we're now at the point that there are no treats or rewards for obeying, other than a quick pet and a "good girl!" Jamie gave us the dog we dreamed about but never really thought we would have. Jamie is knowledgeable, patient, insightful, very skillful, and caring. He has certainly found his niche as a dog trainer. Tldr: Took forever to reply to my emails while my dog needed help with a severe training issue, outrageous prices, and not willing to sell me anything less than the premium package. Long version: I contacted them for help with my puppy's severe food guarding that I am not equipped to handle. This issue needed attention asap since she wasn't eating her daily portion (also not to mention how disruptive it is to the other humans in the household). It took them 4 days to email me back after I filled out the online contact form. To be fair, I did send it on a Thursday & they responded that next Monday so maybe they only check emails during business days. When they finally did respond, I replied to their email that same day. They took 2 more days to reply back (it probably would've been longer but I sent them another email in the meantime). They told me I would need to go with their premium training package and it would be $2,275. I asked what cheaper options they had for me since I cannot afford that price (pay per day, hourly rate, lesser tier package, etc). They responded: "you would need our 10 lesson option, which is the price stated, we do not have any pay per lesson options. You're welcome to look at other trainers in the area if we're not within your budget." (Copied and pasted from the email they sent me) I was looking forward to working with them because they seem knowledgeable and my mom's coworker recommended them. But judging from this experience they just seem like their main concern is money, and the welfare of the dog comes second. I understand that businesses get burned and they need to take measures to protect themselves. But I'm not trying to negotiate the premium package's price down, I just wanted to look into a cheaper package. Honestly...Jamie has to be the best trainer/dog whisperer EVER!! Our 8 month old rescue puppy had many problem behaviors like jumping on guests, barking for attention, not following commands and jumping onto the dining table. Jamie showed us exactly how to curb these behaviors and has created the perfect family pet. We can have guests over and are so proud to show off Buddys tricks. We cant say enough about Training Aces and Jamie! Willow, our golden retriever stayed with Jamie for almost a month after we got her as a puppy. After that time with Jamie, Willow returned to us with a solid foundation for a lifetime of a well-behaved family dog. Willow had the basics (sit, down, stay, bathroom routines, nighttime behavior, basic socialization etc.) down nearly perfectly in less than a month. After the intensive time with Jamie we also decided to continue private lessons with Jamie. He was flexible and patient with all of us. Its one thing for someone to be able to train a dog (which we think Jamie has a gift for that is second to none), but Jamie can also helped us humans learn to train our dog as well! Now, over a year out we have a dog that is more than we imagined! She is well behaved, well socialized with people and other animals and is now living perfectly with a newborn in the house. We have since moved out of the area and this high quality dog trainer is something we miss and have yet been able to replace. My labrador Chippy was quite a handful to say the least. Perhaps a devilish dog to say the least. He knew his basic commands, sit, stay, down etc., but would do the commands for only a brief period of time. He was a dog with a mind of his own. I even thought he might be a tad aggressive. After much frustration with things like stealing food, grabbing things and not letting go and jumping all over people who walked in my house (just to name a few) I contacted Jamie at Training Aces for an evaluation. He came to my house for a "play date" with his border collies. What he was really doing was observing OUR behaviors along with Chippy's. (It's not just the dogs fault as we soon discovered). We decided that he would benefit best with one of Jamie's board and train programs....programs customized to fit your dog's issues. He had Chippy for 2 weeks and he came back a totally different dog. When he brought Chippy back, he stayed in our home for a half day to teach US how to manage his new and improved behaviors like how to react to unacceptable behaviors and the correct way to praise and reward focusing on consistent reinforcement. He also gave us tools to use, such as a food ball, to stop him from vomiting because he ate too fast. Chip now knows his place and our guests were also told how NOT to greet our dog until he earned that "pet on the head". The real beauty is if Chippy slips up, Jamie is always there for support. We also use Jamie's boarding services. Whether it be planned or an emergency, Jamie is there for us and Chippy. Every time he comes home, we can see where a perhaps "slacked" behavior (our fault) was reinforced and back on track. My husband and I love Training Aces and Jamie Ziennker. I recently needed to board my one year Spinone Gladys, while I recovered from surgery. I knew I was going to return to Training Aces Pet services where I had previously boarded my Springer who had health issues. He came home very happy and healthy! This time I decided Gladys needed some training! I elected the train and board package. Wow! Gladys learned so much! She would always pull on her leash, so much that it was very difficult to walk her. Jaime not only taught her to walk on a leash, she also learned manners, long sit, down and to go to a designated place. Jaime made sure we knew how to continue her training. Detailed written take home instructions and the ability for followup question and advice were given to us. I had spent lots of money on group training classes.Wish I had done this package sooner, I would have saved time, money and Gladys could have enjoyed so much more. Jamie has taken care of our dog from the time we got him at 12weeks old which is almost three years. Used Training Aces for boarding and training. They don't get any better then Jamie! My pup was so responsive when she came home from training , Jamie taught her so much. She was happy to oblige.
