Plenty of new books. Love that they have puzzles and a reading area for folks who are tired to sit and wait while their significant others wander the store with its massive selection! Service was excellent and the folks were super nice to help us out! Price was standard as any book locations. The clearance was ok and not a major price reduction. Would come back. I've haven't been in person but I ordered online and the book was at my doorstep within a few days! Great service and selection on their website! The book was in perfect condition even the sprayed edges. It seems like someone took the time to look over the book and make sure it was in good quality which was greatly appreciated! Winthrop was described to me as a faux-Western tourist town, so it's safe to say I wasn't expecting to find any bookstores there. But to my surprise, Trail's End Bookstore is right on the main drag, and it's actually a very cute store with a good selection! The outside has a pretty great olde-tyme wooden storefront and painted sign that makes it look more like a saloon. But when you walk in, you'll find a brightly lit store with colorful walls and wooden shelves stuffed with books. The front area is devoted to new releases and local-interest books, and the back section has used books and a children's room with toys and games. At the register is a tiny espresso bar. In addition to new and used books, they have a selection of literary gifts and novelty items. There are some cute totes and wallets, e-reader sleeves, word games like Bananagrams, and blank journals, plus stuffed animals and other little trinkets for kids. The prices in the used-book section looked fair, and there's enough stock that you should be able to find something good to get you through the weekend if you finished your book faster than expected! We were greeted when we walked in but then left alone to browse, which is my favorite way to shop a bookstore. A medium-sized, but very pleasant and well maintained bookstore, and extra special because I wasn't expecting to find anything so nice there! I've been coming to Trail's End intermittently since I was a little girl, so around 10 years now. I stepped in today to find a book on a specific subject. The staff were very accommodating and searched for a book, and when they couldn't find it, they gave me other recommendations. Safe to say it was a great experience for a great store and I look forward to coming here many more times in the future read more

There's the kind of modest bookstore you'd be delighted to find on a space station in a remote solar system, and then there's the kind of bookstore you'd be delighted to find in a major city on one of the Federation's most central planets. Much to our surprise, Trail's End is the latter. It could hold its own on any bustling planet or space station, yet it's still right at home in the retro-Western town of Winthrop. (At least, I think that's where it is. Perhaps we were trapped on a holodeck? People are always running Old West simulations in the holodeck and then forgetting to turn them off when they leave.) What makes Trail's End so special: a wonderfully thoughtful, eclectic and even surprising set of curated selections, right inside the front doors. An extensive selection of novels, many of them flagged with review cards or prominent display. An excellent children's section. A dedicated shelf of feminist books of all genres. And of course, a well-curated selection of the technical manuals that Earth's bookstores insist on characterizing as "science fiction". A Starfleet officer who finds herself in Winthrop can be confident that Trail's End can provide whatever combination of historical reference, scientific information or cultural artifacts (a.k.a. "novels") she requires. In addition, the store offers a well-chosen selection of articles suitable for gifting to fellow crew members, family members visited on shore leave, or Ferengi who need to be bribed. My only regret about Trail's End is that the store's title aptly describes its location. The way Starfleet works us, it's unlikely we'll be back in Winthrop anytime soon. But if we make it back, Trail's End will be our very first stop! read more

I'd heard a review of "A Doubter's Almanac" on NPR. As a math minor, it sounded really appealing and a good thing to take with me on along plane journey to/from China, with some train travel while in China. I placed a special order and had it shipped to my house. A glitch in one warehouse delayed shipping. But, instead of me not getting my book before I left, the store called another warehouse and had another overnight shipped to me. Now that is service! Thank you! This is why I shop at small businesses and support independent bookstores. read more

Great little bookstore (and coffee shop with Vivace beans) with a carefully crafted selection. We spent some time chatting with the owner on our recent visit to Winthop, and he was very sincere and spent a lot of time giving us directions and advice. Instead of sifting through Yelp and leaving multiple reviews about how unhelpful everyone else in the entire town was, I think I'll just say the opposite here - we would have had a pretty sad trip were it not for this dude. He had a ton of great recommendations and even made sure we knew about the trivia night at the bar down the street. TL;DR: Go here, chat up the owner on what to do in town, and buy a book from him. read more

Aaaahhh, the aroma of a good independent bookstore makes me swoon. To find such an inviting, warm, spacious bookstore in Winthrop was a dream come true. Of course, I had to buy a book, cause I love 'em! I bought "7 Years on the Pacific Slope", a first-hand account of life in the Methow Valley around 1900. Anyway, there are couches and art and lots of books. The gal working was so friendly and charming. I could have just hung around and read all day. read more

This place is a gem out here! We were in the area doing some camping and whenever we do I always stop by here to get a book. It's really a great bookstore with a solid selection, I'm always impressed considering how far out here it is. The people working are nice. And there's even a little station with some train toys my daughter enjoyed. Another bonus, when we were there it was so freaking hot in a soon as we stepped in to here it felt glorious and cool. This man has great bookstore in a wonderful setting. He says on his book mark that he handpicks his books and it shows. There are many great and interesting titles here. If your into reading or like books this is a nice place to relax off the long road. The owner is quite friendly and knowledgeable as well. I have stated else where I prefer used bookstores to new, but I make exceptions when they are good and this one also had a small used section. One of the few great book stores in eastern Washington. read more
