My earlier review, brief as it was, still sums up my positive opinion of Reny's, a truly Maine chain of stores where I have shopped dozens of times without a single negative experience. There is street parking and a small parking lot to the left of the store. They also have a passport activity you can use as a day trip experience, whereby you are given a passport to bring to all or some of the branches around the state and have them stamped and signed by an employee. You get a prize halfway through the 19 stores and another at the end. To quote the chain's public relations, it is part of the Maine Adventure!

Reminds me of Woolworth's or Grants back in the 60s and 70s. A lot of variety, nice clean store and we found some snack items that we hadn't seen before. Two large floors of decent quality clothing, house wares, toys, dry goods and personal care items. Great store and friendly staff. We will go again.

I still do some of our supplemental grocery shopping here: either harder to find items or those that bear a cost saving for us, such as quarts of heavy cream. If the item is the same price as at our local supermarket, the 2% cash back loyalty program win it for our local supermarket. And we still buy some non-grocery items here, rather than automatically ordering from the mega online company that I will not name here. Another change is that I have switched to the Walmart pharmacy for a couple of prescriptions, one for myself and the other for a pet. The service is excellent and the pricing an improv over our previous pharmacy. A supplemental benefit is that if I want to use up rewards money from my health insurance card, the self-service registers accept the card when other stores did not.

Reny's brings to my mind the old department stores that I now miss, such as Zayre's or Mammoth Mart…read more(or nowadays the equivalent Walmart), where you can find nearly everything you want, from jigsaw puzzles to travel cups to game-playing dice. But the search is easier without the vast expanse of those other department stores I named above. I have found the people are friendly and helpful also. We have a branch in our home town, and this one seems familiar and comfortable in its Reny's "brand." We went there because we are playing their Passport adventure, visiting every store in Maine for winter fun.

Every once in a while you'll strike gold by finding an expensive product at a deep discount. The place smells like plastic, the cashiers have to wear vests, and they have signs everywhere that read, "smile, you're on camera!" in what I can only assume is an attempt at both underhanded humor and simultaneous theft deterrent.

Because of the success of vaccines and Paxlovid in slowing down the spread and reducing its impacts, I think some people believe Covid is finished rather than that it is now like flu strains. Anyway, the wait outside the store was short. I tend to shop more closely in the Home Goods section rather then in the clothing, unless there is something in particular I am looking for. They sometimes have surprising items for sale, such as the time we found our brand of decaf coffee at a great price. The variety of decaf available at warehouse stores can be pretty limited, but if you have a Kurig you are made in the shade. They must sell a lot more of it and make more profit. So i don't shop at TJ Maxx regularly but I like stopping in occasionally to see what they have at that particular moment. It helps me miss Zayre's less from when I went to the Broadway Shopping Center decades ago now.

This is a HUGE location and it's filled to the rafters with stuff. Not all of it is good stuff. Some of it is junk. It is the very antithesis of organized. They make some effort to try to be organized, in that there is a row of sporting goods, one of kitchen goods, and another with other stuff. the goods are basically tossed in each aisle leaving the shopper to fend for themselves. the only aisles that offer some form of organization are the hardware, fabric, and flooring section. the rest? Not so much. The fabric section should be mentioned. It's awesome. Last season's (or the season before) fabric at low prices. If you quilt or do any sort of fabric craft AT all you can find some amazing deals in Marden's on fabric. It is also the only area of the store that looks as though it's cleanish. Where you might unload $200 on the same amount of fabric at Joanne's at mardens you'll spend a fraction of that. For $100 you can get enough fabric to make a good sized quilt. This location is also beginning to lose it's shine. After they took over the walmart building it was shiny and new and looked great. The exterior could use a paint job, but I guess they haven't salvaged the red paint yet... The once well maintained lot is heaved and has pits. The interior could do with the floor being washed and a solid dusting. It's not filthy just getting there. Where clothing you'd do yard work in, because you'll be digging around looking for things and it's not clean.

You might be able to get items for cheaper if you follow sales, but when you can't find items at other stores, Reny's usually has it. When you're there, go to the spices and seasonings area and buy the Camp Mix. Camp Mix is a salt/Garlic/pepper seasoning that is great for meats, eggs, pasta and Bloody Mary's. The honey/cinnamon is perfect for oatmeal and toast. The Spud flavor is wonderful on pork and chicken. The staff is always helpful and pleasant.
