What can I say about this place? Is beyond amazing to have a place where you can find decent food, you can read what's actually on the ingredients, it's not genetically modified products at all. The service at this particular store is amazing! There are times when I've come to the store and the embracement that you get from being here it makes you feel welcome. I've actually had moments when I did not show up at the store for a few days and I've had workers asked me, " where have I been? " LOL I guess that showed that I'm always in that store often. I love the fact that if you are not sure about some of the products that you are suggesting to buy they're willing to go above and beyond so you can actually see the item and come back and tell them reviews of what you feel about it. It seems as if every time you go in that store the workers have a great attitude, the food quality is great, I haven't seen any foiled looking products in the fruit and vegetable section. I love Trader Joes and the Kalamazoo location is perfect for my last minute stop back home for the weekends where I gas up at Costco across the street and come here. It's a haven for me and here's why... THE GOOD: I love the fact that Trader Joe's has quick vegan friendly meals that are so much cheaper than eating out. I can find affordable salads, frozen dinners (pasta, potatoes, veggies, etc.), soups, snacks, chips, vegan ice cream and many other healthy options available and you can eat like a king for a single meal that's under $5-6 where when you eat out, it's much more, especially with inflation and tips, it's way too costly to eat out at a restaurant nowadays, but Trader Joe's saves you so much and you get so much for reasonable prices. THE BAD: Their vegan options have ingredients that are questionably GMO. However even if I avoid those, thankfully there are good number of alternative items to choose from. WHAT'S UNIQUE: Just this location is right across from the Costco and next to MOD's Pizza which is perfect place to stop off and get everything I need. read more

My favorite grocery store in Kalamazoo. Clean tasty and reasonable. However, I was just bag shamed by the checkout monitor. I didn't need that. Mom's in the hospice, dog is on her last legs and my mind is not on bags. If Joes's wants to lessen bag use let them charge per bag like the Weaver St Market In Carrboro NC. I love my Trader Joe's! I could shop at every single one I encounter. This is a nice location. It is a nice size store with all of your traditional TJ favorites. I did see many items I am dying to try, like the new coffee (caffeinated) chocolate bars and pimento cheese dip. I am also eager to try the new blueberry cheesecake ice cream. This location still had the mango candles, which is nice, the ones closer to me ran out at least a month ago before we could get our hands on one. They had a nice beer selection. I usually come to TJ's to try the new brews because I love the ability to get a single bottle or can and not have to commit to an entire package, or be limited to your other typical grocery store rules of "create your own six pack." That bothers me because sometimes I only want 5 and sometimes I want 7. They do not mind if I get an odd number and have the freedom to mix and match as I please. I do not live in the area, but like knowing if I am around this area I can fill up on our favorite snacks or get food for our trip out here. The employees were helpful and friendly as always. As a California native trader Joe's was always a known gem. My small town didnt have one but if we went to a town that did we would stop by for some goodies. I was so happy to find out kalamazoo had gotten a trader Joe's, mostly because they carried soy chorizo. But I've recently discovered their salted crunchy almond butter which is super good, the whole wheat english muffins are also a regularly purchased item. If u need a quick lunch, their sushi crunchy tempura roll is pretty good for super market sushi. Some stuff is totally hit or miss, (didnt like their vegetarian meatballs, or frozen spinach feta pie, or dried mango in the yellow package [there's different dried mango options]) buuut either way it's always fun to peruse their unique items. I would for sure say at least go see for yourself if you would like anything, and try a sample of their coffee or goodies in sampling section by the produce. Pro tip: decent priced flowers! I never purchase flowers or look at prices of flowers but when their sunflowers caught my eye I knew I had to get some for my mom at 4.99 it's pretty much the best 4.99 I've spent. read more

It's a smaller selection, but it's only the best stuff. They sell my favorite beer of all time for $1.67 a bottle. Heck yes. I've visited this location twice since it opened two days ago and was impressed with its enthusiastic, friendly employees. I was already a fan of the chain, but I'm knocking this rating down to four stars for two reasons. First, they were sold out of a product I specifically made the trip for. I'm hoping they won't run out of items when the hype dies down. Then, a staff member shortchanged me at check out. If I hadn't looked at my receipt to know how much change I should have received, I would have left 7 dollars poorer. Luckily the staff member recognized his mistake after I explained it to him, and we were able to work it out with a manager's help. Its where we buy all our groceries! A big selection of organic and authentic options. You'll find your raw meats, impossible meats, yogurts, and cheese. Im obsessed with walking around their sweets fridge. Always something new to try. You will have to wait outside in line to enter due to lower capacity. They have cleaned and ready to go carts for you. So many staff members walking around the store, chatting with you, and creating a Family atmosphere. They also carry wine and beer. read more

I love Trader Joe's. We have driven up to 6 hours to go to one, and I'm really, really happy that we have one locally here. I am very impressed that the new Trader Joe's in Kalamazoo has so much local art, great staff, and, as always, excellent products. Try the European whole milk yogurt, or the pumpkin spice (which has my favorite spice in it: cardamom). Try the everything bagel spice (on everything - especially good on sauteed green beans), or any of their fresh meal offerings. I swear we go through a ton of their chocolate, including the dark chocolate peanut butter cups. The list is endless, and I always find more by asking people what their favorites are, if we're standing in line. SO very happy to have this close by. YAY! read more

Bought $130 worth of groceries including to-go salad and I found a hair in uncured bacon spinach salad after first bite. Not a good sign for sanitization during the production. Maybe it's not a big deal for other people, but I totally lost my appetite after seeing a hair from my food. I tried to understand and be generous but now I have a trust issue with other prepared items such as sushi, salad, wrap, etc.. I was a loyal customer of Trader Joe's and shopped often for my grocery needs. I won't come back not only Kalamazoo location, will stop shopping from other Trader Joe's locations due to this reason. I am obsessed with this place and the fantastic staff! Prices are middle-of the road; some high, some low. But quality is always top notch -as is the customer service. I love how there are always samples of the day -they've convinced us more than a few times to purchase outside our shopping list. Wow!! First time here and driving up I'm in awe of the outside of the building. It's gorgeous. Plenty of parking in the well maintained parking lot. Not sure when this TJ's was built but it is in perfect condition. A great mural in the window on the outside of the building makes it unique. Walking in it's just as expected; a very clean inside and well stocked shelves, plenty of employees on hand and three sampling's throughout the store. The only issue was not enough shopping carts. It was very busy for a Sunday afternoon but usually there's a ton of carts. I had to wait for one before I shopped. Not long but still waited. First stop was the bathroom and they too were very clean and stocked with soap, paper towels and toilet paper. They had the usual items that I must have like garlic mustard aioli and Everything seasoning along with frozen bags of edamame. But I also found some new items like green dragon hot sauce! Of course I bought it. And watermelon spritzer. It was interesting but not for me. The checkouts were very busy and every lane was open, yet I waited behind two people. Not long because they are very speedy to check people out but I was still surprised by the wait. I wasn't in a hurry and it gave me time to check out some unusual check out lane items. Of course I bought one of their made for that store recycle bags I collect them at every TJ's I go to. I have some great ones. I would love to have this store in my city or any one for that matter great store and def recommend. read more

Venturing into a newly opened business for the first time is really exciting. The hope is that this becomes your new go-to place for everything fresh and tasty. Arguably, we went on a bust evening where there was a ton of hustle and bustle and were less than impressed with all the hub bub. They do have a ton of cool things, and if you're organic, this could be the place to be, but for the regular "Joe", the prices seem to be a little higher than I would have expected or appreciate. I'll visit when I want to feel like I'm trying to be healthy or want to see things on the shelf that I won't find elsewhere. read more

La! La la la la la! I'm a long-time TJ fanatic and I'm tickled pink not to have to make the hike to the East Side of the state (or more recently Grand Rapids) to get my fix. PLUS ... drum roll please ... I didn't even have to wait in a line last night, and they've only been open a week! What a pleasant surprise. I figured since it was close to closing time (and I knew I could fly through the store since I know what I love) and I was on that side of town, it was worth a shot. Wow! One of the employees said they tend to not be too busy around close, which is super helpful to know, although now that I've let the cat out of the bag ... Anyway. What's great about TJ's: 1. Lots of their products are priced just-right! We particularly love their coconut oil spray (although it can get clogged -- run the top under super hot water), olive oil, $2-buck-Chuck wine (although at $2.99 we should probably call it $3-buck-Chuck) and cauliflower rice (which they're almost always out of, and when I find it I buy the store out!) 2. Well compensated and super friendly staff. Seriously they're so nice. 3. Great frozen options. I try to make as much of our diet from scratch as possible, but how awesome is it to have a quick option for those nights when you're super busy. and 4. If you don't like it, it's free. So if you try a frozen meal that sounds like the deal but it's a dud ... money back so you can try something else. Like I said ... LA! read more

I've heard this stores name so much. I tried it out. I don't get it. The prices are not that good. It's too small and cramped in there. Some pretty rude customers in there. Quite a lot. The employees were very nice, though. I bought a bit of stuff and the girls got some nice flowers. It's more of just a healthy store I think. If you like being cramped and rude shoppers, have fun there. It's not for me. I don't feeling rushed. Team VP has a weird thing for Trader Joe's. Our usual Trader Joe's is in Ann Arbor, but this location is the closest to our house. Our ketogenic diet restricts our food and Trader Joe's just gets us. We can always find our Kerrygold butter, organic hotdogs, organic bacon, they have amazing prices on whipping cream, eggs and cheese. The cheese section is sort of like a land all by itself shining rays of hope to keto people everywhere. It's glorious. We did not immediately visit this location because people tend to get a little crazy about a new supermarket and visit, not with a list, but to gawk and meander. We are list people and do not mind the slow meandering visitors, but it can get overwhelming for me, so we try to be efficient and avoid them. On Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. the store was packed. Parking was easy - unlike Ann Arbor, but the store was really super busy. We did score two huge spaghetti squash (4 pounds each) for $2.29 while we pay $3.87 for smaller squash (3 pounds) at Meijer and then we found huge zucchini (1.5 pound organic pack) for Mr. MVP's GF spiced zucchini muffins for $2.99 while Meijer charges $.79 per teeny tiny (the length of my iPhone 6 plus) zucchini. While looking for the Worcestershire sauce we found a product we had never tried before: Trader Joe's pickles. We usually make our own dill pickles, but we do love a McClure's pickle which is about $9 per jar, so we are always on the hunt for a sour, yet crunchy pickle. We grabbed the Trader Joe's dill pickles on a whim because they were just over $2 and we LOVE pickles. These pickles are a winner. The jar is already gone and we have plans to buy more. They are crunchy and just sour enough. Sorry McClure's, but Trader Joe's might have you beat on this one. We checked out with Apple pay. In case you really wanted to know Trader Joe's does not have Worcestershire sauce. read more

It's here! Rejoice! It's a new era for west side Kalamazoo. Erika and I are frugal shoppers, and thus avoid the big chains as much as possible. Aldi was our go to, but it had better watch out: TJ's is in business (although I doubt it's a threat. I think they're owned by the same company). I digress... If you've never been in to a Trader Joe's, you're in for a treat. It mirror's Aldi's business model in that they stock their shelves with their own brand of product. In other words, you won't find Oreos on the shelves, but their own take on it, "Joe-Joes." At first you might balk at the blatant copy-cat style, but hold your opinion until you've tried their products. Unlike "Wal-mart" brand products, which tend to be a truly cheaper knock off brand of whatever they mimic, Trader Joe's brand products tend to be of equal quality, if not higher, than their main-stream counterparts. Thus, you can serve snacks that are unique without breaking the bank. Their prices, due to their lack of name brand products are, by and large, very fair. However, beyond their unique products, Trader Joe's (in general, but this new location especially) goes out of its way to make shopping trips an enjoyable outing, not a chore. There is always a unique hand crafted sample to try, handouts given, and stickers to collect. Yesterday, as Erika and I entered, a man with a mile wide smile offered us clementines the second we walked through the door. I'll take that over Meijer's half-hearted "welcome" greetings any day. Trader Joe's will not have everything on your shopping list. This is the downside of such establishments. Aldi is the same way. But if you're willing to spend the extra time to come here as well as your primary store, you will not regret it. read more

We always enjoy all the healthier options, the flowers, the cheeses, and the samples of a little something new along way. Believe it or not, I have never been to a Trader Joe's before. My first experience as a newbie was okay. I lucked out and found a close parking spot; however, there were no carts so I had to carry a basket around, which became pretty heavy by the time I made it down every aisle. I came to the store with no expectations, except with a list of the top 10 items to buy at TJs just so I wouldn't wander aimlessly without a purpose. The place was crowded but I was able maneuver around without getting ran over. I found everything on my list without any help. The shelves have large labels which are easy to read. The shelves were pretty well stocked, except for the Coconut Oil Spray which was one thing I really wanted to try and they were out. My biggest surprise was I didn't realize they didn't have a fresh meat counter like Earth Fare has. Plus the store itself is small compared to all the other grocery stores in Kalamazoo, so it definitely doesn't have the stock and selection that I'm used to seeing when I do my weekly grocery shopping. Checking out was easy and the cashier was super friendly. I think that was my favorite part of shopping at Trader Joe' Whether I come back or not, time will tell. I don't have the time nor desire to hit two grocery stores a week. And the location is not convenient for me. Thrilled to have a Trader Joe's in Kalamazoo! I avoided the crush of the opening, but snuck in at 8am on a weekday instead. Great time of day to explore the shop and avoid the crowds. I am already a TJ's fan, so there were a few items I knew I needed. I found all of my old favorites as well as a few new items. The cheese selection is incredible, which was a delight. Things like shredded coconut and roasted nuts are well below normal grocery store prices, too. Only drawback - and this is a small one - is that staff were still getting the hang of things, even a week in. In desperation and after missing out on the turkeyless roasts at the GR store, I called this TJs store in Kalamazoo. They had not yet received their shipment but took my order for THREE roasts and said they'd call me. I pretty much figured I wouldn't hear from them but a couple days later they called to say they had THREE on hold for me. Heading down this morning to get these scrumptious morsels of delight for an awesome and cruelty-free Thanksgiving and several meals thereafter!!! I'm thrilled that Kalamazoo has a Trader Joe's now! No need to try to bring my favorites across the state from Royal Oak or Ann Arbor. This store features a great layout, consistent samples from their helpful staff, fast and friendly checkout, and all of my beloved foods, including a beautiful selection of fair trade items. As anywhere else, TJ's isn't the absolutely most affordable place to purchase groceries, but it's great for a semi-home-cooked lifestyle or healthy, quick food. Biggest downside? The parking lot is very poorly set up. There aren't clear walkways into the store from many of the spaces and it's difficult to tell which direction to go. read more

Highlights are the sweet potato gnocchi, polenta, indian meals, tamales, and love their three layer hummus, salsa and cheese and chips selections. Cant beat the wine proces as well.
