Free fruit for kids!
Becky H.

Had to check what the buzz was all about! We went on a Sunday late afternoon and it wasn't as busy as some supermarkets are on the weekends which was nice. I thought they might have some samples out seeing as they're a new business in town, but we didn't find any. My kids did appreciate the free banana or clementine when we walked in the door. It's smaller inside than I thought it would be. I would compare it to a Trader Joe's and Earth Fare. Prices were all over the board, produce deals were pretty good, but I feel like the other selection of fresh meats/fish, and frozen foods were on the pricier side. They did have a lot of organic/gluten free/health centered food items. Kombucha growlers you could fill up was a nice convenience. I don't see myself going there too often, unless I was on that side of town and didn't want to do Meijer/Hardings.

A great deal of of fresh vegetables fruits to select from. I am impressed ! Picked up some grade A maple syrup this trip. They have a good size bulk food section as well. I was very impressed with the selection of non dairy milks. The store is clean and well stocked I will be back!

Oh em ggg! Seriously?? This place is so amazing, right in the middle of a strip mall. It's a mix between Earth Fare and Aldi. And that's an amazing thing. Beautiful produce at great prices! I got strawberries for .88 cents, 1lb strawberries at that!! They have a great bulk selection. Candy, nuts and mixes. You can get fresh maple syrup, honey and more. As much as you want. They have a good salad bar too! The store is booming right now, not with just shoppers but employees. Not sure why but they all have different colored shirts. They are super friendly and helpful. Willing to answer anything you ask. Super patient. I can't wait to go back! 10/1 corn on the cob?? Yes please! Highly recommend giving it a try!!

Tristan observed that nothing says genuine like a bad pun and pretend barn doors.

I'll be looking to become a Full Shareholder ($800 full season, weekly share that includes Family admission ticket to strawberry ice cream social, 1 Flat you-pick strawberries, Fall harvest dinner) or Half Shareholder ($450 for every week) in November/December so I'm ready for the full summer! Soil Friends also offers a flexible payment plan, which makes it a bit more affordable Payments can be made on your terms as long as the share is paid in full before the first CSA share is distributed for the year. In the meantime, I've been following all their fantastic Facebook updates. They have hard cider now (very tasty and not too sweet) as well as donuts. But, I stopped by today for some produce (green beans, jalapenos, and watermelon)! I was very tempted to buy ALL the things as the produce looked so fresh and beautiful! The space is also very family friendly with corn hole, ample seating & kids' play equipment. I can see why their socials, dinners could be very lively and fun. Soil Friends also posts up at the Kalamazoo Farmers' Market! But, it's worth a drive out to their farm in Augusta! 207/365

This past spring I purchased hanging baskets for $10 each, which was much less than Meijer or other…read moreplaces. One of the hanging baskets I bought was a strawberry plant and it did very well on all of the big strawberries it produced. I still am getting strawberries! I bought two quarts of strawberries in June and thought I would get the larger ones but they were not very sweet. Wish I would have purchased the smaller ones. Also bought pound cake that Verhage Farms makes and it was very good The vegetables and fruit are a little pricey and I wont buy the fruit that stays outside in the sun until sold. They are way too ripe. I always go back to this place and try to find something else to try. Glad it is near by.

First: If they have pear cider available, GET IT. It is truly, honestly extraordinary. We went through a few gallons this year, and each drop seems to be nectar of the gods. They are closed for winter, obviously. But when they reopen in spring, here's what to expect: * Enormous tubs of whatever is in season, parked right out front of their doors * Inside shopping for things that need refrigeration (cider!), including lovely bags of spring greens that we always get, and veggies that don't need to be out in the open air * Sort of odd parking. The handicap parking is far away for me. There are two close spots to the right of the doors, and that is not a difficult walk * SO MANY KINDS of everything: apples, squash, pumpkins, well, you know Michigan harvests. You'll find all that and more here. * In the summer, LOVELY jalapenos that we stock up on and freeze for winter *Reasonable prices Tip: Weekends are busy and crowded. Mondays take a hot minute to be restocked! We go here SO often. It's a great place, with friendly people.

I've been a farmers market-goer for as long as I can remember and I'm thrilled how successful the Kalamazoo market has become in the last decade, but I really loathe claustrophobia-inducing crowds so I've been really enjoying hitting some of the slightly smaller neighborhood markets these days. Vicksburg has really hit the Goldilocks just-right point. Everything is represented but nothing's over-represented. They've got a separate section for crafters so if you're just there for food you can skip over the arts-and-crafts section and if you love shopping for locally made gift items, there's a spot for you, too. On today's visit, my friend and I were thrilled at the wide selection, ranging from smoked nuts to homemade gelato, baked goods to nicely priced local produce. I couldn't believe how big the kale bunch I bought for just $1 was. I won't be able to eat that much before it goes bad so I gave half of it to my neighbor. Really looking forward to tonight's dinner of tamales (served hot, even), and chips and guac that I picked up at the market, to be followed with a dessert of Michigan peaches and ice cream. La!
