Fresh Thyme is a grocery store that is much smaller than its competitors, but focuses on natural and organic foods and products. It is owned by Meijer, but is vastly different. We were referred here to purchase some Kalamazoo coffee beans. They had a large variety of beans, ground coffee and K- cups. One of my favorite features was the bulk bin area. I was able to scoop out any amount of beans, rather than being stuck with a pre-packaged size. The store was clean, well layed out and staff were very nice. read more

This was a great find off the highway. Came here to grab some road snacks while making my way to Detroit. They sold their Zevia energy drinks much cheaper than back home. Great snacks too! Accidently found their clearance section while making my way to the restroom. Store was clean and had plenty of good deals. Checking out was quick and easy with great access to the streets and highway nearby. Highly recommend stopping here! read more

I came in here with my mother to buy groceries and vitamins and when me and her checked out and were about to leave, mom saw the oranges on sale and went back and I was looking around at the stuff we bought and some lady came up to us said accused us of stealing oranges. I argued with her and she didn't want to make any common sense with me. Why would I buy 80 dollar worth of vitamins and groceries and go back and steal 4 dollar oranges.....? And she said "people like us", mind you, me and mom are Hispanic looking so her saying stuff like that is crazyyyy. read more

Great meat and seafood! I could wander around for hours looking at everything they offer

Had to check what the buzz was all about! We went on a Sunday late afternoon and it wasn't as busy as some supermarkets are on the weekends which was nice. I thought they might have some samples out seeing as they're a new business in town, but we didn't find any. My kids did appreciate the free banana or clementine when we walked in the door. It's smaller inside than I thought it would be. I would compare it to a Trader Joe's and Earth Fare. Prices were all over the board, produce deals were pretty good, but I feel like the other selection of fresh meats/fish, and frozen foods were on the pricier side. They did have a lot of organic/gluten free/health centered food items. Kombucha growlers you could fill up was a nice convenience. I don't see myself going there too often, unless I was on that side of town and didn't want to do Meijer/Hardings. read more

Melody at the checkout did not feel like helping my sons and me today. We were the only ones in line waiting to pay when she asked us if we had questions on how to use the self checkout. I would understand that comment if she had a long line but she obviously did not feel like working so I went ahead and used the self checkout anyway to avoid her bad attitude even though it would have been more convenient for us we made her life easier instead. I have visited Fresh Thyme stores down in ohio and been pleased with the selection, especially Brown Cow yogurt. That said, the fruit and vegetables we got during opening week ALL ROTTED... some within a day, and some within 2. Lettuce, strawberries, celery, clementines, oranges, apples, cilantro...the list goes on. I'm so very disappointed in both the produce and in completely wasting our money. The only thing raising it a star was the excellent staff at checkout; I was quite impressed. read more

Oh em ggg! Seriously?? This place is so amazing, right in the middle of a strip mall. It's a mix between Earth Fare and Aldi. And that's an amazing thing. Beautiful produce at great prices! I got strawberries for .88 cents, 1lb strawberries at that!! They have a great bulk selection. Candy, nuts and mixes. You can get fresh maple syrup, honey and more. As much as you want. They have a good salad bar too! The store is booming right now, not with just shoppers but employees. Not sure why but they all have different colored shirts. They are super friendly and helpful. I absolutely love this grocery store. I always end up leaving with way more than I came in for. Keep an eye out, some things can be pricey but they do have some good sales. Produce is always good. The deli has Boar's Head meats and cheese which are amazing (Aloha turkey!!!). The pre-made salads and stuff in the deli is good as well. They have a ton of special diet foods and hard to find items. The store is always clean and well organized. The employees are super friendly and helpful. read more

Ok it's Christmas. It's in the middle of a pandemic. You don't have big family coming for the holiday meal, but the hubby wants something special --- duck. You call all over. Nobody has duck-- it's like duck has Never existed as an ingestable meat. In December. At CHRISTMAS!! whut! Not at D&W, not at Harding's, not at Meijer... In desperation you call Fresh Thyme Market, where you've been before and been suitably impressed. The meat man answers--very cordial, knowledgeable and kindly on the phone. Why yes,we have duck-- you can get the breast frozen, or the whole beast by halves in the same area. You guys just got yourself a new fan and customer. THANK YOU, Fresh Thyme. For realizing some people eat DUCK, and serve creme fraiche, and need currants and lingonberries. If you like big Brussels sprouts and you can not lie, then you can't deny yourself a trip to Fresh Thyme ASAP. They have them on sale, and they are by a long shot the largest sprouts I've ever seen. My husband brought home two big bags, and some of the sprouts were almost as big as a my first and all of them were substantially above average size. We've been trying to hit the grocers only about once a week since self isolation was requested earlier this month, and we've hit a different shop each time. Fresh Thyme was about as easy in/easy out as any store we've visited during the crisis, and it's great to visit a store so focused on whole foods and fresh foods. read more

This was a really cool grocery store. They had Stevia soda on sale for a good price so I stopped in and was very pleasantly surprised. There's a good selection of natural products -they also have hot food and a salad bar! Overall, it's a little pricey, but they seem to have good sales so I will be keeping my eyes on this place! read more

Great addition to our local community! I love how they have eating area that's separated from their deli section. It cuts down the crowd, hopefully. I didn't like that the clerks were stocking while we were purchasing produce and they didn't tend to give me space when I was picking the strawberries. It was definitely awkward. They have ads every week and I suggest to take advantage of their app and clip the coupons. When you click the coupons, it shows what items are eligible for the coupons that you've clicked. Such a convenient and innovative touch in the App! We are so glad to have found another health food store that doesn't break bank if you clip coupons and buy veggies and some basic essentials. read more

Meijer Inc. created the Fresh Thyme chain, which it owns through a subsidiary. It's an attempt to draw in customers that might ordinarily be turned off by the older Meijer brand or image. The phrase "Fresh Thyme" is an attempt to connect to a demographic that is attracted to shopping at a Whole Foods or Trader Joe (or locally, to a D&W or Earth Fare). The thinking is that customers that might be turned off by the big box store model like a Meijer's might be drawn to the shopping experience at a Fresh Thyme store. So the Meijer-Fresh Thyme brand separation is primarily a marketing strategy to expand a customer base. If a new business - and this isn't just limited to food markets - wants my attention and business, then it needs to offer me something I don't already have. Trader Joe offers me the convenience of getting its signature products that I was previously able to get from its Ann Arbor store. D&W offers me proteins and deli products that are superior to Meijer's or Wal Mart. And as much as I hate and despise the whole Wal Mart phenomenon, I can't argue that the prices for pantry staples (canned goods, paper products) is pretty attractive. So what does Fresh Thyme offer to me? I'm not on any restricted diet (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, diary free) so none of those types of items carry more than a passing interest. The fresh proteins and deli products I want I can find elsewhere. As we walked around today the vegetables and fish sections had products that looked dried and too old. (For example, there was a bin of fresh corn that looked like it should apply for retirement benefits.) The parking is a bit of a nuisance because I am competing with customers who are shopping not just at Fresh Thyme Market but the surrounding stores and restaurants as well. And since I know that this is just a marketing strategy by Meijer's rather than a genuine philosophical shift toward fresh meats and seafood, bulk foods, and minerals and vitamins, as well as organic, gluten-free and dairy-free options, then I'm likely to pass this store by. In other cities, I have seen the building logo as "Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market," and that designation has always offended me since the stores were hardly "farmer's markets." The corporation was smart to remove "Farmer's Market" for this particular store since there is an already vital farmer's market community in existence here in Kalamazoo. read more

Great place to shop for organic and fresh groceries. They have a solid variety of fresh seafood and meat options. They also have a nice bakery, salads, and lunch counter. Decent prices compared to other places in the area, and great costumer service. They only offer paper bags and environmentally friendly produce bags. read more

I found my first visit to Fresh Thyme a breath of fresh air! It was a very pleasant experience! The store and carts were clean, the isles were roomy so you didn't feel as if you were squeezed. I love that the deli carries Boars Head Meats snd Cheese! They have a salad, soup and olive bar! The baked goods looked wonderful however I did not try anything from the bakery yet. I had just begun becoming somewhat of a regular at this store which was starting to grow on me. But after my last visit, I will never return to this or any other Fresh Thyme for that matter. Weekly specials on fresh items. Deli and take-out items such as rotisserie chickens. Not as expensive as the other "health food" stores in Kalamazoo. Convenient location on Westnedge Avenue. Nope! It does not matter how great the food is if the customer service sucks. The manager there is rude and does not take any accountability for mistakes they make there. We had ordered a Thanksgiving dinner there, fully cooked For our family and they didn't have our order. Rather than make it right they blamed us for not receiving the order online. I am in disbelief about how rude their employees are and in particular the manager there. I will not be returning to the store ever. read more

I stopped into Fresh Thyme this week really excited about the new "farmers market" type store. I definitely was excited to see certain items, like the olive bar and vegan area for when I am entertaining and no clue what to make for those friends. I was happy with some of the sale prices on meat, and with the layout of the store in general, however it seemed like it would be much bigger from the outside. I was also hoping for more (better?) specialty products like cheese and in house made food. I was definitely left wanting more, but altogether wasn't unhappy with what I purchased. read more

I love this store. Their bakery bread is delicious. They have a great selection of fish and their produce is fresh. They keep their store very clean, especially the checkout lane. Wow this is been a big disappointment for my wife and me. We had stopped in here during opening week and were very excited when we purchased some of the fjord trout from New Zealand. We returned the second time and that's when things started to go downhill. We were looking for particular products that were on sale and couldn't find anything. We were told that sale didn't actually start until Wednesday. That was OK but the protein selections with the fish department were much reduced from the first week and were actually looking a little old. We stopped in today to pick up some fresh fish for the grill. While we are at the fish counter, the representative asked to help us and we said "yes where does the white fish come from " and he said "ughhhhhh don't know"and walked away We decided to walk away and never return. read more

Overall they have lots of great options, a juice bar and lots of different options of bulk things, but I wish they were more environment conscious, and use paper instead of plastic for bulk and even sell glass jars so you don't have to use plastic! And they should even just have paper for bagging!! read more
