It is a real treat having a Playa Bowls in Kalamazoo, especially one that is as friendly and…read moreinviting as this one! On our first visit to Playa Bowls, the workers were so patient and informative (and cheerful!), helping us with our order and answering questions we had (for example, possible substitutions of ingredients to make the bowls Vegan). The menu that is on the wall is so varied and expansive that at first, ordering can seem daunting. However, after their explanations, our options became clearer. I suggest looking at their menu at playabowls.com before going. (For Vegans, generally: Blueberry Flax Granola can be changed to Vegan/Gluten Free Granola for 50¢, Whey Chocolate or Vanilla Protein can be changed to Vegan Chocolate or Vanilla Protein. Honey can be removed from orders. And the Coco-Whip is Vegan.) The workers pride themselves on the artistry of the bowls! So many times at other fast food or fast-casual restaurants, the food that is served looks nothing like the photographs in the advertising. However, at Playa Bowls in Kalamazoo, the bowls often look better than the advertisements! Because we had such a wonderful time and the bowls were so delicious, we returned multiple times over the next couple of weeks. Sometimes the workers were the same, sometimes they were different, but every time, the people there provided us with the same warm and welcoming experience and beautifully crafted bowls!

The staff is friendly and you can tell they take pride in everything they make. All of the dessert items looked beautiful and delicious. I was there to try the food though. I order a pastor taco and a chorizo taco. First, the presentation was phenomenal. They include red and green sauces, grilled onions, roasted jalepeno, cucumbers, limes and radishes on the side. Out of the many, many Mexican restaurants I've tried since moving to MI 3 years ago, this is the first place that included garnish on the side. The food and presentation reminded of Las Vegas, where I'm from. The pastor meat is tender and flavorful. The chorizo is full of flavor and not dry. Other places drain the chorizo which causes it to lose a lot of flavor. The chorizo was exactly the way I like it. Overall, I will be back to try other menu items.

The restaurant has improved so much in terms of quality, atmosphere, and overall experience. Even though it has an express-style setup (similar to fast-casual spots where you order quickly), the vibe is still peaceful and comfortable. The seating area feels very relaxing and calm. They even have a cute egg chair corner. They play authentic music, which really adds to the experience. I ordered Heat waves Bowl , a bowl with four protein options: chicken, ham, shrimp, and beef. I asked them to remove the hame , raw meat option, and kmishi. They did. Everything I received was absolutely delicious. The quality of the food was excellent, very fresh, and you can tell they care about cleanliness and presentation. The bowl was beautifully arranged and very pleasing to the eye. The portion size was generous, and the price was very reasonable, $14 for a large, filling bowl. Service was super fast too. I ordered, went to the restroom, and when I came back my bowl was already waiting for me. From the food quality, speed of service, atmosphere, location, and pricing, everything was on point. I'm really happy to see how much Yoba has grown and improved. Definitely worth visiting. Specially during lunch breaks or for quick meals options.
