tacos al pastor

I love shopping at El Ranchero Mexican Grocery Store but this was the first time I've ordered from the restaurant area. Wow- the tacos al pastor were muy delicioso! And I don't know what to call the fried onions that were on the side but they were fantastic, too. The store has a great selection of products and the produce is really good. I love trying new items every time I go- like the bottled drinks and desserts.

Great Taco joint with the grocery store that's been renovated. We always drive by the area but it always looks so crowded so we figured they must have some good tacos. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, we decided to try their tacos. We got chicken and steak. They are $2 each and made to order. The cook was really patient when we were deciding what to order. These $2 tacos are definitely worth the price for the amount of food they gave us. Sauces are green(mild) and red(spicy). Tip: Their kitchen closes 30 mins before the store closes. $5 minimum for the credit card.

Chicken tacos were amazing!!!!

OMG! Tacos and grocery one stop shop! I heard about the tacos but always see that the parking lot is full. I decided to see what the hype was about. Needless to say, they didn't disappoint! Tacos are full and freshly made infront of us. The cook was very nice and I was able to get some groceries while waiting for tacos. They have some carnitas special on the weekends along with other fresh produce. Will defybe back again for these amazing tacos!

This fall the grocery store moved from a smaller building north on Portage Road to the now empty Vermuelen's Furniture Building on the corner of Portage and Kilgore. The business was closed for awhile as it made the transition. Now the business is open for business. If you were ever inside the furniture store you'll know how deep the building was. So It is not surprising that the grocery store looks a bit scattered and disorganized. It may take awhile for the owners to use the space effectively. There are shelf stable and refrigerated juices and drinks, cookies, biscuits, etc. displayed on shelving and refrigerated cases on your right as you walk in. Past this are fresh vegetables and fruit. To the left, at the front of the building, is a grill and flat top. The business has butcher's display cases in the rear. There is a lot of room for the owners to bring in more product. And for the time being, this is the grocery where I will buy Goya Maria Cookies and Topo Chico. Biscuits and water. I have simple needs.

Awesome market! I found a lot of great things here. There are a lot of drinks and snacks and grocery items. There is also a meat counter, I can't wait to cook the pork al pastor I got! Didn't try the tacos but I have heard good things about them. I love to try new things, and I was able to find plenty here, along with old favorites!

You'll find all types of seasoning, candy, ice cream, cheese, grains, and fresh produce. It is small but it does have a variety of products that your Hispanic dishes will need. Don't be discouraged by the lack of parking in the front, drive to the back of the store they have parking for at least 10 other vehicles

Let me tell you how fantastic this hidden gem is:…read more 1) The owner is the friendliest guy in Kalamazoo. You may see him at the Farmer's Market, or running into his neighbor's restaurant, Nonla Burger, for a snack, or being very, very helpful at the store. You can identify him by his HUGE smile and welcoming manner. 2. Fresh meat, of all kinds, Lately, we're really into the tiny cubed bits of beef, for a quick spicy stir fry, but there are also all kinds of sausages, and spiced meat for fajitas, etc. 3. All kinds of tortillas - both corn and wheat. 4. Fresh veggies, including papaya, aloe, tomatillos, avocados, and a slew of hot peppers. 5. Speaking of hot peppers, you'll find a variety of dried ones in front of the meat counter, and on the spice rack. 6. ROASTED PORK every weekend! It's in a blue cooler by the cash register, and you just pick out the bits you want, and have them weighed and sealed up at the meat counter. 7. At the farmer's market stand, get the fresh chips, freshly made salsa, and our favorite, homemade tamales. YUM. Now, I could go on and on (all kinds of canned goods, including Dominican red beans; dried goods; laundry soap; pinatas; and more), but the main thing is that you know you're in an authentic shop when people from that culture shop there. This is clearly a hub for excellent food, supplies, and even medicine from abroad. We go here at least once a week!
