How far is this store from Bolton landing by?

By car it is about 75 to 80 minutes (miles about the same as minutes). The Trader Joe's in Clifton Park would be closer, about 60 minutes which is off Exit 9.

Overall, my opinion about this store pretty much remains unchanged. But lately when using the…read moreentrance adjacent to the produce and deli, you are accosted by the stench of rancid cooking oil emanating from the deli section. Clearly, they need the ventilation system checked (regrettably oil for deep frying is infrequently changed anywhere). I was worried, however, my clothing was going to reek of it from having been in the store. The vile odor of the seafood section nearly knocks you over entering that same entrance and it gets more staggering as you approach the seafood aisle. I suspect this is for two reasons: first, it's clear that the crushed ice isn't changed regularly, much less daily (as it should be) -- which is likely contaminating the fish on said ice. Second, the fish itself is aged and previously defrosted and aged and likely well on the road to decomposing. I hold my breath if ever in the also adjacent pharmacy area. It's seriously gross. It screams unsanitary and likely unsafe. I rarely eat deep fried food and I'd certainly not get it here. And, there is absolutely no way I'd buy seafood here. The Slingerlands store is little better, but the fish counter area is somewhat less repulsive. The main reason to come here are for the produce (well maintained and extensive choice), the dairy section (decent), and the canned goods (standard) . Otherwise not great to poor. Let me note, the seafood sections at Whole Foods, Honest Weight, and The Fresh Market don't stink.

Very rude staff at the pharmacy…read more I was asking about health care coverage and the pharmacist up front was annoyed I even asked. At the end of the call I started to say "thank you for your help" but instead of letting me finish the sentence she hung up on me. Didn't even say goodbye. She might be having a rough day, but it's unacceptable to talk to customers like that, especially when it's on medical questions. If you have a staff member who is rude to customers, it may be time to find a new place to work. I will be contacting the store to file a complaint.

Such a wasted opportunity…read more One of the great ironies of living in Bethlehem is the limited number of grocery options what we have when the local per capita income would support more options and certainly stores of higher quality. (I still can't wrap my head around how Wegman's has been kept out of the Capital Region.) The plaza where this Hannaford is located, however, defines wasted opportunity period (okay, the Pakistani restaurant Shalimar is a positive.) Hence, I only come here on the occasion I am in this part of Elsmere when coming down Delaware Avenue. This Hannaford is claustrophic once inside (largely because of a poor layout, and many aisles on the opposite side from produce devoid of shoppers that are devoted to crap you don't come to Hannaford to procure.) A redesign, and purging of many items would infinitely improve this store. The produce department makes you think: "wait; I'll drive to Price Chopper afterwards." The vegetables all seem wilting and aged (or, wrapped in plastic, possibly worse.) There is an open air "hot bar" of cooked items, that features a minimalist sneeze guard but is otherwise open to dust anything else flying around in the atmosphere. As you walk past it you are accosted with smell of oil and vinegar from meats cooked many many hours earlier that are kept hot. Not me thanks. Pluses: I can find hot Pace picante sauce here (Price Chopper only carries medium and mild, apparently their stats indicate Capital Region shoppers can't handle spice.) You can get a large sized jar of Grey Poupon Dijon here (Price Chopper at any of its many locations only carries small jars, clearly to better fleece customers.) I can also find Dalfort jams here, which Price Chopper once carried, but now I can only find here, at Whole Foods, or Honest Weight. One day I was making a dish that required lumpfish caviar (okay, it's not that extravagant, and when I lived on the west coast you could find it in any Safeway.) Not able to find it at Price Chopper or Shop Rite I did find it here (I bought the two available jars and have noted subsequently it's not been restocked.) The baked goods are sad; the deli kind of worries me. The meat selection is absolutely minimal but adequate. And perhaps the most worrisome part is the sales staff here seem to be so incredibly unhappy; several of the cashiers if not absolutely indifferent are downright hostile. There is a clear morale problem; it doesn't matter how polite you are. Now, the Colonie Hannaford is like the Taj Mahal compared to this Hannaford, but every time I come here I think "why didn't you go to Price Chopper?" And, I don't like Price Chopper much at all.

The shelves are stocked with imported pastas, sauces, and specialty items that make it hard to leave empty-handed. I ordered the Chicken Cutlet Sandwich, which was outstanding with a perfectly crispy cutlet and fresh ingredients. The macaroni salad was a great side, and the cannoli was the perfect sweet ending to the meal. If you're looking for authentic Italian flavors and a true old-school market experience in Albany, Cardona's is definitely worth a visit.

The market has that old time vibe of being part of the neighborhood. Amazing selection of Italian goods and some seating. Perhaps most importantly, a really nice selection of creative sandwiches, filled with high quality ingredients, that they can also put on a wrap. I loved the Rabe C, broccoli rabe, fried eggplant, provolone and hot pepper spread. Great flavor combo and a pop of heat from the pepper spread. My wife enjoyed a delicious roast beef wrap and my daughter enjoyed a vibrant pasta salad. All that plus a local orchard sparkling apple cider! Almost forgot to mention, the woman working behind the counter was pleasant and the staff were all professional. I can see why it's a local favorite!
