A long time business in the community. It opened in 2004 at this location. A few hard to find specialties like Caribbean, Latin, and West African ingredients can be found. They also have hot food service. Has quite a lot inside. It's located on Morse Avenue at Greenview and is popular with many people. They make a lot of the prepared foods made to order, so it's fresh, and there's a good selection of meats and vegetables.

The congestion level applies to the bar and customer lounge area also. Parking is plentiful though. A fair number of Orthodox Jews live in the area, so you will find many kosher products here that meet their needs, much more so than at other Mariano's. Other than those point-outs, it's a nominal Mariano's and gets the job done for the customer base.

And like other Food4Less locations, it has that warehouse-like appearance. I particularly searched for the box of Jimmy Dean - Blueberry Griddle Cake Sausage, Egg, and Cheese sandwiches, and either apple or orange juice which I found without any assistance needed. While shopping, other items shelved I took a liking to were a box of Jimmy Dean - Maple Griddle Cake Sausage, Egg, and Cheese sandwiches, a box of MorningStar Farms - Sweet BBQ Riblets, Granola Bars Chewy - Cookies & Creme, Oreo - Dirt Cake Flavor Creme Chocolate Cookies, and the Oreo - Star Wars Flavor Creme Chocolate Cookies edition which I will definitely look into trying at some point. While in line, waiting to be rang up by David B, the cashier, I could not resist giggling at the customer to cashier interaction which certainly put me at ease and in good spirits post shopping at this Food4Less. I don't love monopolies, unless I am winning at the board game. So I look up cheap grocery stores, and other than Aldi, Food4Less came up. I found one not too far away from me and decided to venture up there. I walked through the doors and some of the first merchandise I see has the Kroger logo. Go figure. Where it comes to this specific grocery store, variety is one of the items that cost it points Their selection was fair, but the deli department is notably small, and there is no visible butcher shop (though there are meats and seafood for sale). You can more or less find everything you would need among these notably very wide aisles, but perhaps some items would require one to go elsewhere. Among the items they had, the store appeared clean and well stocked. When it comes to their prices, while nothing is cheap anymore, especially in Chicagoland, I found their prices were a little lower than average, especially for the eggs. When it comes to the customer service, this could also be a little bit better. While there was no one at the customer service desk, it had a little sign that said that this register is closed. So... if you need to return something or if a price isn't right, what then? You're just out of luck or something? I'd also like to note that this is a place where you bag your own groceries. Not a problem, necessarily, just thought I'd put it out there. Thus, while I appreciate the lower prices, the slightly limited selection and the lack of customer service cost Food4Less a couple points. Still respectable though, and I can still see myself coming back on occasion.

The absolute worst Trader Joe's location I have ever been to, possibly the worst Trader Joe's in the entire country. Evanston has honestly gone to the dogs as anyone who lives here knows, but it is still surprising how bad this place is. The cashiers are standoffish and arrogant. I worked as a cashier in one of the busiest areas of Evanston for 3 years, so I know when a place has terrible cashiers. It was my first time even seeing this cashier, and she's making sarcastic jokes at my expense, playing weird eye contact games, and basically being a Karen. Luckily I had my wits about me and left her with an insult on my way out, while avoiding dealing with a Karen on her 'home grounds'. Absolutely pathetic. The store manager should be banned from service jobs and management permanently. And I'm not complaining about a one-off with one employee. That would be silly. I am generally a well mannered person, my literal job is in service and communications. I have had consistent issues with rude cashiers here. This type of disrespectful atmosphere happens when you don't have a man or a woman worth their salt managing your store. In fact, I've never seen a manager patrolling or doing anything but sitting on their behind here. The biggest problem with this store is there is a gigantic amount of volume of customers. What does this mean? It means cashiers deal with more rude customers, and of course they can't dish it back to those rude customers or the next rude customer. So how do they vent? The same way everyone getting bullied vents. By 'punching down'. They vent on innocent customers they think they can get away with it on. AKA young White and Asian men ages 18-35. Also, despite all the workers they have, you are simply gambling buying 'fresh' foods here. During the summer they literally had rotting fruits and veggies sitting on the main floor over and over, which they still do. Their frozen chicken has brown rotting sections in it almost every time. The quality is 'effing' terrible. Almost all their frozen foods have some type of soybean or processed canola oils. After the last two times I bought chicken here it was completely off I don't even bother looking at their meats section. Their prices have gone up insanely. $3.99 for a halfgallon of organic Milk. Like $2 for a single potato. This place is the absolute scum of Evanston. I can't wait to come back here and have more sassy, weird cashiers! read more

Home of the most annoying and boundary pushing cashiers in the entire United States. Been coming here for 10 years and I always cringe and hate dealing with their cashiers. I don't have the same problem at Whole Foods, Jewel, or any other store. Trader Joe's employees are just very annoying, needy, and rude. It took me a while to figure out why the cashiers here at TJ's are so annoying and boundary pushing. It's not a one-off thing. I can count the times I was able to just get my groceries here normally on 1 hand in 10 years. It's because this location is VERY busy, and Trader Joe's employees are forced by corporate to be overly 'friendly'. So they routinely get ignored or treated rudely by people who are either rude or just want to buy groceries. Or just ignored because people understand the whole interaction is overly fake friendly which appeals to lonely/needy customers and old folks who don't have many friends. What ends up happening is the classic ripple effect you see with juvenile bullies and immature people. People are mean to cashiers, cashiers are mean to the next people they feel they can pick on or engage with. And guess who that person is if they are on a shift and you just opened up a conversation with them? Hint hint... it's you! It's unfortunate, but it puts any logical person worth their salt in a position where they have to entirely ignore the cashier and appear 'rude'. You end up having to treat the cashiers like aggressive beggars and just ignore them altogether. Because that's what Trader Joe's turns them into- fake friendly people trying to create a fake connection so elderly people and lonely people want to shop there. read more

Madness reigns. The first challenge your soul must endure is the parking lot. You wait with your vehicle half blocking traffic, creating a perfect circular vortex of anger that encompasses the street and the entrance to the store. Once you attain access to the lot, you discover that this is a false achievement; other motorists stop and start with no apparent thought or plan--- turns once begun are quickly abandoned, the drivers seemingly immune to geometry. At last a space opens up, but the price is having to enter the store. Inside, human beings scramble like beetles whose rock has been upended. Though the aisles are wide it is impossible to avoid physical contact with your fellow shoppers. It is a grotesque parody of the bazaar at Marrakech, as if dumb animals had been granted only the amount of sentience required to mock humanity. The aisles are not labeled. You must search for every item. The constant walking up and down causes a numbness that borders on profound despair. Your conscious mind registers merely annoyance, impatience. But on a cellular level, your body cries out in weariness. The fatigue you feel is a warning: millions of years of evolution trying to save you from becoming mired in the tar, from sinking into the warm blackness and ultimately being reclaimed by the earth itself. Be sure to get the dark chocolate peanut butter cups, they are right by the register. read more

Beware of cashier H, Nicole. She is a disgrace to Trader Joe's culture. I brought 2 TJ bags from home. I asked this cashier to double it. She said that one bag was enough. She handed me the bag full of groceries and it was very heavy. I emptied the contents so that I could double bag it myself. She was upset that I was "wasting her time". When a colleague showed up, she lied that she did not hear me tell her to double the bag....and cherry on the cake, she started eyeballing me like the ghetto person that she is. It is amazing the variety available in this tiny store!! All grocery essentials are here and have great quality. Cashiers are always helpful and friendly. Limited selection of produce and meats, however great selection in the frozen and shelf stable foods! Prepared foods available for a quick bite. I enjoy shopping in quieter, less chaotic establishments and GFS is excellent. I've been to this location about a half dozen times since one of the Asst. Managers came to my place of employment to introduce herself and dropped off some information. She has been fabulous to work with since I began my relationship with GFS. GFS is less than a mile down the road frame where I work, so it's extremely (almost too) convenient. :) Anything and everything you could ever need for a big party, fundraiser, pantry stocking, business/office essentials and more is here. GFS carries a lot of name brand items, as well as their own generic GFS products. In the past I have purchased coffee, soda, desserts, chips, cookies, cakes, pre-made salads, bagels, chili, beef, buns, taco stuffings, guacamole, produce, disposable tablecloths, paper products and decor items. I've never had a problem with anything. Quality has been far above average. I find that their prices are extremely competitive, too. I appreciate the fact that they break down pricing on their shelf tags. For example: they break down soup costs and give you the price per serving. This is very important in my line of work. 3/$9 name brand soda sales are awesome. Stock up! Most items are sold in bulk, so be prepared for that. They don't offer a huge variety of fresh produce items, but they do sell the essentials; apples, oranges, strawberries, salad mixes, peppers, etc. Sign-up for email alerts. They typically include a $5 off $50 purchase. I just got (2) $5 of $50 coupons via snail mail that I'll definitely be able to use. Great parking lot; clean & spacious. Shopping carts are well-maintained and corralled in one place. You won't find carts all over the parking lot here or miscellaneous trash hanging around. Here you can pickup paper products, cups, glasses, plastic utensils, all that sort of stuff and the food that goes with it. I wrote a review for their location on Cicero Ave., so you can see that one for more details, suffice it to say GFS is the place to go if you want to skip luggage, cell phones, books, clothing, outdoor furniture, that sort of thing. This place is about food and food related products. Also no membership card to get in, or receipt to get out. No coupon book either, just posted sales, so everyone gets the deal! I like that!

We still had to spend additional time and money purchasing replacement groceries elsewhere. We then spent even more time trying to reach someone who could address the recurring issue, only to receive apologies from bots and supposedly "human" agents, but no meaningful corrective action. As a result, I sent an email to Amazon's Executive Customer Relations team. In short: premium prices, poor-quality produce, repeated apologies, refunds, and no meaningful corrective action. For my family, that was enough to take our business elsewhere.
