I see a lot of people (Canadians) comparing TJ's to a reasonably priced Whole Foods or an organic Wal-Mart. Heh, funny stuff, but totally off the mark. First off, I like TJ's. But unlike Whole Foods or WalMart, it's far from being a one-stop shop. There are far too many holes in their product lineup for it to be. Many Americans who do multi-stop shopping trips go to Costco first (also not a one-stop shop), then TJs, then Safeway or Whole Foods or another all-inclusive grocery store to get whatever they couldn't get at the first two places. Yes, TJ's is reasonably priced. But most of their products are priced comparably to Whole Foods 365 product line. In fact, it's Whole Foods' policy to price the 365 products in line with TJ branded products (now don't go comparing Canadian WF prices to American TJs, that wouldn't be fair, now would it?). For Canadians, any grocery store south of the 49th is reasonably priced, especially for alcohol and dairy. Organic? Sure, but not everything they carry is organic. Just thought I'd point that out. Wal-Mart? Are you frickin' kidding me? What's good: - Fresh prewashed packaged greens. Kale, spring mix, lamb's lettuce, baby spinach, etc. - Nuts, dried fruit, grain. - Cheap to mid-priced wine selection, and $2+ Chuck. - Hummus!!! - Cheese selection is decent. - Staples like butter, eggs, dairy, packaged bread, peanut butter, condiments, etc. - Packaged meals are reasonably priced, rarely bad, rarely great. - Small quantities of just about everything available. Bad because lots of packaging, but great for smaller households (bachelors and couples). This particular store is crowded and insane, especially weekends and late afternoons. I do like many of their products, but not enough to make the trek down there from Vancouver. If I'm driving through the area or have other errands to run in B'ham, sure, I might stop by. Coming from San Francisco, I do miss having a TJ's a half mile away (also crowded and insane). read more

There are a few things at Trader Joe's that I will not buy anywhere else. The quality and price of certain things are incomparable. There are many other items I can live without, including meat, produce, and household items, which are low quality and not worth buying there. However, my list of things I can't go without has to wait for the weekdays, because trying to get in and out is a nightmare at this place. I have come up with creative parking solutions, or else I ride my bike if I don't need much. Things worth the trip...the basic marinara sauce (I think it's called Grandma's or something along those lines...cheap as hell, really delicious, with no added sugars), olive oil is a good buy, excellent cheap cheeses (especially the fresh mozzarella and the grated Parm and Romano blend)....among other good little treasures hidden around the store, but I can't give away all the secrets! Just beware....going there at the wrong time and especially on the weekends when it's crazy busy can leave you angry and remorseful. read more

I LOVE Joe's nuts! Did that come out right? Yeah I think so...... I love getting all my raw nuts here, plus they have the best veggie burgers there and I love how the whole store is set up. I really need to find out what I can and cannot bring across so I can try some of the produce as well. Organic milk there is cheap. We also get the Cuban style black beans (so delish) and then stuff the cart with whatever else looks appealing. I also love the fact that they have free coffee samples all day as well as a food sample of the day. MMMM today was vegan gluten free minestrone. Honestly the best minestrone I have ever tasted! I wanted so badly to give it a 5 but they do have a somewhat limited selection in some areas. Like toothpaste and spices. So excited to finally arrive at Trader Joe's this past Saturday, aaaand that feeling quickly diminished. The parking lot is crazy busy and it's about the same inside. When I do any sort of shopping, I gather the list of things I want, I buy and I get out. This is not the case at Trader Joe's. It's a small grocery with too many people around it's oh so very crowded, not to mention the bright beaming lights above (awful). Most of the food prices are about the same as Vancouver, some things are actually cheaper in Vancouver, this also depends on where you shop. I eat healthy and I like quality food. Their wine selection is great and cheap, I stocked up, I can same the same for cheese! (I'm appalled at the prices of cheese in Canada! Ridiculous!) LOVE Trader Joe's. It's an absolute must visit when down in Bellingham or anywhere on the West coast. Mention it anywhere in Vancouver and people automatically get excited and all have a favorite product they get there. There is a huge section of pre-made food that's perfect when you need a picnic lunch. Salads and sandwiches always are high quality and are usually $4. Had the chicken pesto wrap last time and the pesto dipping sauce was fabulous. Also love the precooked chicken breast slices and the mushroom asparagus tortellini. Heaven. Here you can also find a wide variety of meats and cheeses, as well as fresh pizza dough. Freeze dried strawberries and pure dried mango slices win us over in the 'dried' section. They have a wide variety of dried fruits available and I've never come across anything a) I didn't like or b) that wasn't of high quality. Dairy and fresh meats offer a wide variety of products. I love the soy options and the variety of fancily marinated meats. The frozen aisle is huge and offers everything from fully prepared meals, to tiny bite sized desserts. The pasta/cereal/canned goods aisle is always packed with people and is one of my favorite aisles. Try the grain mix that includes israeli couscous, orzo, and lentils. Add in chopped onions and chicken broth and presto! Side dish extraordinaire! Their oil packed tuna is heaven and is only $1.99/can. The tetra packs of broth are super flavorful and taste just like homemade, though beware that the veg broth is tomato based. Of course, the alcohol section is crammed with any and every kind of wine, all for very reasonable prices. You can also get specialty beers and ciders here. Due to almost everything being under their own brand, prices are kept extremely reasonable. They make their own versions of products and have wonderful options that you would never think of. While the parking lot is always packed, spots quickly become available. The latest visit revealed a picnic table in the middle of the lot, which we quickly grabbed to enjoy our purchased lunch. I made a stop at this place after a day of hiking and picked up my share of groceries. Comparing to other Trader Joe's, there is not much difference. In fact, I don't think I ever seen one Trader Joe's that's different from another. In terms of general selection of products, this place is quite unique. I had never been to a Trader Joe's before they moved to Bellingham. I have a lot of friends that have raved about them for years, but I had never even seen one. Now that I have been to Trader Joe's I have to say they are amazing. The frozen deserts and wine and probably my favorites, but I also like to buy their pizza crust dough, sauce, cheese, and toppings and make my own BBQ pizzas. Trader Joe's seriously turned the neighborhood around. That strip mall was scary, but Trader Joe's has turned the entire strip mall into a Bellingham destination. Nice work guys! read more

I come here for the frozen items, pita and hummus, and a good deal on cider. BUT--the parking lot is so busy, once I simply left after circling for 10-15 minutes. The back and surrounding alley was full as well. Inside the store isn't much better as far as space goes. Also, with TJ, although they have good deals on many items, their selection _is limited_. So for a more complete shopping trip, I go elsewhere. For food, it's usually TJ. read more

I think A-OK is enough, given the crazy parking lot and some high prices. I have had many experiences with a failed package or bad product, a mistake in seal of the packaging, or fruit that won't ripen just rot, for example. What's with that? It is my goto store for organic produce, nuts/raisins/popcorn, milk, olives, pet kibble, eggs and milk, gnocchi, and a few other things. The rest is interesting and too pricey, or I can get better quality elsewhere. The cheap wine isn't good. But I'd be lost without them for my "specialty items". Not really impressed. Compared to other TJs the selection is very small. The variety of breads, crackers, was 3 types maybe. Unfortunately the produce was not very good. It looked great in its package but the plums were gross. Possibly previously frozen. The bagged Fuji apples were flavorless which was weird. The cod was normal not any better or worse compared to other places. The cashier was very nice and friendly. It's a bit of a drive so definitely not worth it for me. Although they seem like an organic store, a lot of items are NOT organic, in fact they are full of sugar and are over priced, trans fat food like chips, cookies and other junk food. I had been going to your store on N. La Brea in LA for years, before I moved north of the border where there are none to be found:-( To my surprise I need only drive 45 min (without border wait) to shop at my favorite grocery store. Lousy parking, but otherwise it's a great Trader Joe's. They are good at stocking their product, and make sure you get out as fast as they can. Checkers are friendly, do a good job bagging your items in a quick and organized manner. I really do like the people who work here, but not so much the people who shop here. This isn't the store's fault, just the stuck up people who shop there and believe in using Wal-Mart tactics like pausing and blocking, and even using the carts as weapons to interfere with your progress. Isles are narrow, but since they are so well stocked, it's just an inconvenience one has to deal with. read more

I go maybe 2x month for tins of coffee. Would go more but the parking is Demo Derby Time. Spaces are way too narrow and parking is generally limited. I have driven 18 wheelers for years, I know something about parking . Customer service is great. Once I had to return something ( damaged goods) and one of the managers let me replace it no questions asked. I always appreciate service like that! read more

This Trader Joe's deserves a 5 Star! I come here all the time with my family. So I recently had to return a few new condiments that I bought. I tried something new and it wasn't my taste and they took it off my bill with no problems at all. This is what makes this place so great. On top of that, I always see how all the employees work so hard. They are constantly stacking and helping customers find their way around. And a shout out to all the employees working at the sample department. Thank you for your hard work making the samples for everyone who takes a taste. I have bought many new products doing this taste test. Yay for the coffee samples that are much needed at times and I absolutely love the organic coffees. This is one of my favorite places to shop! You can get really health food for an affordable price. They are constantly sampling items in the back of the store and I leave with great ideas for dinner. Food is packaged in small amounts that make it perfect for smaller families or younger couples. You can try great wines for a low price too! I love their pizza dough. Yeah, wines can be had for cheap. Never heard of most of the cheap brands though. Some of the wines can be had for like $2-3 US, or about $50 Canadian, lol. Ok, not $50 but add a good 45% to the price plus time, and taxes at the Cdn Border. And that's not even knowing if the wine taste like vinegar. Me thinks all this Trader Joes nonsense is simply hype for people who want to be trendy. Besides, I am never a fan of any product or merchant that doesn't disclose where the product is made from, especially from whom. We never follow the crowds or trends. There are way too many Canadian sheepies here following the crowds trying to fit in with their colleagues and friends despite the record low canadian dollar. The ironic thing is most Canadians shopping here have no idea how to correctly calculate the exchange rate. They are fooling themselves into thinking they're paying less than they actually are. Of course, this is no fault of TJ's, just a reflection of the typical Canadian cross border shopper. Virtually everything here is branded Trader Joe's. All of the processed food including frozen foods look very delicious and beautiful with their fancy pictures; however, It's very pricey too. The question to ask is it healthy and where is it made? TJ is in the USA and they have different food laws than in Canada. They are allowed to sell irradiated food and gmo foods. Is the packaging accurate? I haven't found the price of dairy or oil inexpensive here either. Parking is a nightmare, With the exception of the deep discounted unknown wines, I see no purpose in shopping here. read more

I am a huge Trader Joe's fan. They offer so many unique, tasty, and healthy foods - and often for much less than you'd get at the local grocery store! The aisles are fun to shop and the staff are all so helpful and friendly and always willing to offer up their opinions on favorite items - which has led me to try things I'd never tried before and ended up loving! The wine selection is amazing and you can find so many delicious wines (and beer) for very reasonable prices. Their Mediterranean style hummus is so delicious, I buy two at a time! My only complaint is that the parking lot is too small and sometimes I can't find a place to park! read more

Before I went to the store in Bellingham, I reached out by phone and a lady by the name of Pia answered. From the minute she said hello, you sensed that she was incredibly customercentcentric, focussed on supporting me in every way she could and in every way exceeded my expectations! I kindly ask that you hold two items that my wife really loves from your store so that when I showed up they wouldn't be all sold out and she agreed to do so. When I arrived at the store, I actually bumped into her accidentally and she was even more amazingly friendly and supportive. She walked around the store with me and show me some items that she says are best sellers, brought out the frozen items I put on hold and really made my experience at your store the best it's ever been! The reason I give them three stars is because of the fact it's in Bellingham. It becomes filled with mad Canadians who are impolite and push you around and have no manners. No trip across the border from Canada is complete without stopping at Trader Joe's to stock up on Morningstar vegetarian bacon. I recently picked up 5 boxes of the stuff along with some vegetarian corn dogs, frozen tamales, and Trader Joe's brand cereal. There is no duty or tax on food at the border. I miss the days when I lived within minutes of Trader Joe's back in California, but I'm grateful that I can at least get to this one without boarding a plane. We'll plan our next trip to the States when we run low on the veggie bacon. read more

I'm not a Trader Joe's fanatic, as in people who go to the U.S. just for Trader Joe's. However, I'm fan enough to stop by whenever I happen to pass by. The main draw is Kefir. Vancouver, BC needs a TRADER JOES... stat!! The first thing I said while looking at some of the goodies were "are you kidding me?!" the prices of the pastries, family sized chips/popcorn bags, and the drinks were so reasonable. You could get a pie for less than $6 and a big family sized snack bag of 50% less sodium popcorn for less than $2. The prices and the boutique selected brands are much more wallet friendly than the organic food stores in my city. Every time I go across the border I have to make a stop at Trader Joes and load up on some delicious truffled chocolate, popcorn snacks, and pie!
