Yvonne was so friendly and helpful. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I needed to ship my work laptop overnight to my company's IT department. I figured FedEx could handle the packing and shipping and it worked out really well. Yvonne took great care in packing the laptop and triple-checking the name/spelling/address for the shipping label. Since it needed to be shipped overnight, I figured the price would be hefty (yay for company reimbursement!). All that really mattered was that my laptop arrived next day as promised. The place looks like the standard FedEx Office Center. Copy machine, packing material, basic stationery needs. It's clean, there is parking in the front and back. Bonus it's across the street from Target so it's easy to make a trip to FedEx part of an errand day.

I tried to shop for some other things as I needed a desk lamp, wall clock, calendar and cork board for a guest rental room, but the selection was limited and oddly overpriced, like $31 for a basic framed cork board, and only 2-3 desk lamps- all priced so high. The weirdest part was the "Bargain Bin" section in the back where items are mass-priced based on the day of the week, so today being Friday, each item was $15, then the prices lowers each day until the remaining items on Thursday are $2 each. My observations: the bins were messy, filled with cheap stuff, food packages were mixed in with chemical-based items, and boxes were torn, empty or undecipherable. There was a box of metal plates like part of a car? Where did this stuff come from? Nothing was worth $15! Most items were not even worth 50 cents. It looked like someone just dumped random items into giant tubs, instead of just throwing them away, and called it a day.

Though the college's relationship with Mid-American extends further back than this, in the four years that I've been regularly working with them, there have been no significant problems and many great successes. They always make sure that we're not paying more than we have to--even if it means telling us that some job we've offered them would be cheaper at Kinko's. They've gone to bat for us when we've had issues with postal permits and delivery issues. They routinely think of slightly different ways of doing thing than the ones we initially envisioned that make our lives easier, our publications better, and our bills less expensive. Our contact there, Bruce, is so integral a part of how we get our work done that he may as well be another employee of the college, half the time. At my company, we aren't big enough to have an in-house print shop--and we're small enough to highly value knowing who we're working with so that person can be a colleague, rather than a salesman, to us. If you're concerned about environmental impact, Mid-American uses soy-based inks and can use Forest Stewartship Council-approved paper--and can get your publications FSC-certified. Print FSC and Soy Ink logos on your publications, and you can make a statement to to your Green customers. Can't recommend them highly enough.

I needed a shop specializing in graphic design that understood the production process on our end without knowing our industry. When I walked in here I was overwhelmed with the old retro elements like a mimeograph, type set machines, beaten and worn solid wood furniture from the turn of the century. I felt I was more in a museum than a print shop. I got the warm fuzzies, and that's good. David was able to help us to 100% satisfaction. He understood our concerns and needs. He also explained we could use another type of paper he carries to improve our product quality. And the price was very competitive to what I've paid. When I saw the final product I was very pleased. So glad to find someone knowledgable, customer friendly and could take care of our rush job in the 2hour time limit. What ever your printing project is don't mess around. Talk to David to get straight shot answers. Get the job done right with the people who have learned from the past to better provide the needs of today and lead the way to new technologies tomorrow.
