My favorite drinks here are the immunity broth (kind of like a classic savory, peppery chicken broth) and the chai (which uses the Seoul broth. Although it sounds really odd, the watm sweetness works really well with the broth). I also came by recently for the holiday peppermint cocoa flavor, which was also delicious. San Francisco has many seasons in the month of the December. There is still football season and basketball season. Then there is being stuck in the game known as the cuffing season which happens during the Holiday season. Next week becomes the Winter Season and it becomes the raining season. One season which goes hand in hand with the upcoming winter season is soup season. When it comes to soup the star of the show for me is the broth. There is a place on 24th street in San Francisco which has all kinds of different and thoughtfully source organic broths. It's called Trad Bone Broth. Inside Trad Bone Broth they have lots of broth which includes the European Beef Broth , Seoul Broth, and Seaweed Broth. You will also find Korean Beef Soup , Chicken Pho, and Chicken Wild Rice Soup. I had to try their signature drink for the holiday season which is the Peppermint Cocoa Broth. It was not sweet at all and it had a good peppermint flavor with a smooth cocoa taste. They also have Matcha Broth, Kimchi Broth, Cha Broth and Tom Kha Broth. This is a great place to be proactive or reactive for the Winter Season or all Four Seasons. The European beef broth tasted like a beef stew while the Seoul broth had more of the Korean seolleongtang or galbitang flavors. The Seoul broth was much lighter than the European beef broth. It was interesting trying the matcha broth as the matcha flavor was strong but you can still taste the savoriness of the bone broth. The Korean beef soup came in a large mason jar with slices of beef, green onion, and rice with a side of kimchi. It was decent, but not as good as what you would get at a Korean restaurant. These guys set up a table at the Flower Piano event in Golden Gate Park with a huge gas generator that they put on a hill - away from their customers - positioned so it drowned out three of the piano stages. It was incredibly loud, and competed with the music that everyone came there to see. They literally ruined this event for me and my family. I told the woman at the booth about it, and she seemed appropriately mortified but then did nothing. Do not patronize this Inconsiderate, obnoxious, and selfish business. read more

If you are used to scrumptious strong pho style broths do not expect to get that here. Do not expect to get a broth with much flavor at all. When I went, I ordered the pumpkin soul drink as well as the original soul. Well, the pumpkin soul had a tiny bit more flavor than the original soul. It was very offputting with pumpkin flavoring a top a savory chicken stock style broth. Unfortunately neither of the drinks were very palatable and both tasted like a watery version of Campbell's chicken noodle soup with less than a third of the flavoring. read more

Was walking around after my optometrist appt and came across Trad Bone Broth. My first reaction was surprise at seeing what seemed to be such a niche specialty store and also curiosity that people really go to a little shop to buy bone broth. (And also that Noe Valley sure is fancy haha.) I was wondering if it was just to buy some broth to cook with later (which maybe yes could be done because you can buy a quart) but surprisingly it seemed to focus more on broth to drink right then. There are sipping broths and there are signature drinks which use the broths as a base (and not all of the drinks are savory!). The weather was cold and rainy so a warm broth also seemed fitting. I considered the immunity broth in the signature drinks (chicken broth, ginger, turmeric, black pepper, garlic, ginseng) especially since I've been feeling a little sick but I was really curious to try the Seoul broth which is a creamy white broth made from beef bones in the traditional Korean style. While I was there, they let me have a sample of matcha broth (interesting) and the immunity broth which they said is their top seller (and it was delicious, I almost regretted not ordering that after all). They lightly salted my Seoul broth and pointed out where I could get more salt if I wanted to add more (I did not, the level was perfect). The broth was so comforting and tasty. I'm glad I tried it! What do I know? They appeared to be thriving. As I stood waiting for my Iced Chocolate Sea Salt drink to be made others came in. They weren't just getting a free cold drink but ordering and paying for other liquids on the menu. I started to pay more attention to the menu with a different thought than I'd had earlier: "I wonder what (menu item) tastes like". My Iced Chocolate Sea Salt drink was handed to me but not before I learned that it, too, was made from bone broth. I walked down the street before taking a taste. Truly delicious, and different from what you'd get at Starbucks. If I had to put a word to it I'd say it tastes like protein, but in a really good way. And now I'm thinking this: "Why don't we have this place in Marin?" I liked my introduction to Trad Bone Broth and they sparked in me a desire to sample more of the menu. We also received a complimentary sample of next months special broth and it's a good one! Kimchi Broth (5/5): This broth stems from the Korean Kimchi dishes Liem soondooboo. The base broth is the European Beef and it comes with kimchi, gochujang and olive oil. It was a bit spicy but I got used it after. I thought it was really good for what it was, but it was a bit heavy for me. I would like a smaller size if possible. I stopped by here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the Tom Kha Broth. Don't be fooled by the coffee cup though, drinking broth is a completely different experience. The warm drink is flavorful and nourishing, it left me feeling a lot like I do after a heavier chicken noodle soup. I also had the opportunity to sample their seasonal pumpkin broth, although I found the sweetness in that one a bit odd. This is a small storefront a little ways down 24th, with no room for seating inside. I'm a meat-falling-off-the-bone type of guy. Always have been which is why I've gravitated toward bone broths. The health benefits were a bonus. At least that's how I felt about five years ago when I tried Brodo in NYC. It was the hot spot celebrities like Anderson Cooper raved about, and I kept waiting for the Left Coast response. I finally found it at this compact shop on 24th Street. It was quite by accident as I just turned my head and took a peek at the menu. I was surprised how extensive it was since I remembered how specific Brodo's menu was. It was divided into three categories: Sipping Broth, Signature Drinks, and Soup. The sipping broth is what I was expecting, and they offered three: Classic Chicken Broth, European Beef Broth, and Seoul Broth. The first two were traditional all-American choices, but the Seoul Broth was a personal specialty from owner Jonathan Kim as it was prepared like Sagol-gukmol, the creamy homestyle Korean beef bone broth. Each of the eight Signature Drinks was made with one of the broths. I was interested in trying the Seoul Broth, so I ordered the $12 medium Honey Broth (photo: https://bit.ly/3yLQvLB). It went toward the sweet end of the spectrum with the surprisingly compatible addition of coconut milk, raw honey, and cinnamon. I also got to sample some flavors through a Yelp event: Both the Immunity Broth and the Matcha Broth were so richly flavored and nourishing!
