The only thing I could think of was a fast food restaurant or a maybe a library. I check the GPS and lo and behold the Newbury Public Library is just up the road. I expected they'd be closed and I wasn't entirely sure that the wifi would work if the place was shut down but I discovered that the password was part of the name and a minute later I've logged on and booked a room on AirBnB. So to the staff and administration of the Newbury Public Library, thank you! Your library was a beacon of sophistication and connection on a cold, dark night where communication was otherwise, surprisingly difficult.

I mean, studying. Boasts over 5,000 videotapes and 1,000 DVDs. * Book Arts Workshop: The outlet for my creative juices between partying... My friend goes to Dartmouth and gave me a tour of this main building on Campus. I was not expecting the building to be very different inside. There are multiple study area: a traditional dark oak room with chandeliers, a more modern and open study area with lots of light, and a basement area with a large mural. They also have a side room that's in memory of Dr. Seuss, who was an alumni at Dartmouth.

We looked at many places, first in Maine, then in NH. I was reluctant to move, and agreed to it only if we could find a town with both a bowling alley and a great library! My husband just wanted a lot of land and no traffic. On our first visit to the area we checked out the library. I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful space, the stained glass windows, the hand-carved bears coat rack, the huge fireplace, and the cozy reading nooks. The head librarian, Rita Morgan, was friendly and knowledgeable, and made us feel very welcome. What cinched the deal for me was the majestic grandfather clock that chimed and bonged every hour. After 41 years here, the bowling alley is long gone, and Rita Morgan, sadly, passed on many years ago, but her successors have kept the homey feeling of the space while moving it slowly into the 21st century. While I have never gotten used to the harsh winters and buggy springs, I am happy to say I still love the library!!

During the fall and winter months, I try to stop at one of the libraries in the area as part of my…read moreusual weekend errand-run. If you live in southern NH, your library card will give you free access to most of the libraries in the area: Manchester, Bedford, Hooksett, Derry, Merrimack, Salem and a couple others. Very cool! Bedford has a great selection of books, including a decent amount of new titles. They have a huge collection of DVDs, including many TV series (since I dumped cable years ago I find this to be a great thing). The best part is they also have around 150+ blu-ray discs-as far as I know this is the only area library that carries them. There is a nice reading area in the back, lots of computers, an excellent kids section (the whole bottom floor, in fact), and it seems they have many public events during the week (movies, concerts, and such). My only disappointment is their graphic novel section is a little light, but seems to be growing. If you are into that kind of thing, Manchester has the best selection.

I spend a lot of time in libraries in VT and NY. This is a great library and those who have found…read moreotherwise have, in my view: focused on things that are outside of the library's purview (i.e. legislated maximum fines) and/or not spent the time to explore the library's resources. I have gotten truly obscure materials through interlibrary loan, they have phenomenal on-line access to periodicals, newpapers and other materials for cardholders. The most wonderful thing, though, is that these librarians love being librarians and it's contagious. From researching the reason for my street's name to exploring how to make the library ever more useful in spite of budget cuts, they bring enthusiasm - starting with Jerry Carbone, the director. His wonderful blog http://musingsvermont.blogspot.com/ and the book recommendations on Twitter @brookslibraryvt are just two examples of going beyond the fundamentals...which are firmly in place. I love this place and it loves me back.

Easy, clean, comfortable…read more I found a nice spot on the upper floor where I was undisturbed for five hours of emails, quiet Zoom meetings and perhaps a few Yelp reviews got cranked out in between here and there. The library is quite modern on the inside despite being in an older and refined building. A large collection of books including the usual fiction, non-fiction, reference and periodicals. Friendly and helpful staff who helped me get settled. And a free wifi that worked very well. Street parking with meters and you're expected to find a different space after two hours. Beautiful old building that's clearly well cared for and preserved. There was a book sale going on…read morewhen I visited, and they were also hosting a music and poetry event with free admission. Even without an event, it is such a fun place to just wander around. There is a community board, lots of unique seating areas, and a whimsical children's section that was especially cute. They even had tote bags for sale if you want a souvenir. The whole space spans three levels, with community artwork on display throughout. Just a really special place to spend some time. I'm so glad that such a beautiful building is so well preserved and cared for.
