This is such a cute little library! Even though it may seem small (due to the fact it serves a…read moresmall town) it has so many books and movies on the shelves plus it is part of the interlibrary loan system of New Hampshire towns so having a library card here gives you access to so many books, movies, audiobooks, etc. The staff here are friendly and always ready to help. It also hosts many community events, especially ones geared towards children, and in this modern world its great to see and be able to take part in free activities for the family. And don't forget to make use of their online catalog, its so simple and easy to use and it allows you to easily check what they have in the library and even reserve it so its ready to be picked up at the front desk when you walk in. Oh and they have free/discount tickets to attractions across the region and if you're a Weare resident and don't take advantage of this then you are simply living life wrong! Libraries are the heart of communities and its so great to see them still thriving and doing their best to serve their communities in any way they can.

The location is almost in the centre of the city, so it is accessible to everyone that is a Claremont resident. I love the staff there because they have really watched me grow up, and are very knowledgeable. The movie selection is pretty decent for a library, and they have wonderful adult/older teen selections upstairs, with the best children's selection I have seen downstairs.

The idyllic hills and surrounding trees make this a lovely walk. The tour guide was informative and fairly friendly. The staff kinda led us a little stray from the tour when we arrived, but they figured things out. The museum itself seems a lot more low-key than Hancock Shaker, the latter being a more vast museum and includes more exhibits and things to see, such as farm animals. With this museum, you'll get a good sense of Shaker living and see some of their aspects of their lives. However, the tour guide will give you a richer sense of what they did and why. The Shakers are an intriguing and interesting people and definitely worth a look. The gift shop offers various Shaker crafts and books. Plus there's a video in the back on the village that you can watch for free. You can go into some of the individual buildings, but many of them were closed, which was a little discouraging and felt limiting. So while I do think this was a good visit and still worth it, Hancock Shaker is a better place to go to learn about the people. (I haven't been to Sabbathday Shaker in Maine yet)

The Shakers were not like the Amish in that they embraced technology and were one of the first villages in New Hampshire to use electricity. (The Shakers and the Quakers were also totally different groups.) The buildings are original, as is most of the furnishings. I HIGHLY recommend you take advantage of the free guide, who will take you into many of the buildings and explain how and why the Shakers were so successful. As you may know, the Shakers were celibate and it seems inevitable that they would die out. However, many people joined the group because of their views about peace and harmony. Also, they willingly adopted orphaned children. These children grew up in the village and frequently stayed, so that the number of people actually increased for over 200 years. This village is well worth the stop and I very much highly recommend this excellent experience.

This remarkable bridge was a surprise to find on a side road in the lakes region of New Hampshire,…read morenot too far from Keene. We stopped just to shift stuff in the car around, then saw the bridge. The bridge was hand built with carefully selected rocks forming sturdy arches. The exact age of the bridge is unknown, but estimated near 200 years old. In the beauty of the fall foliage, the historical bridge takes on a spectacular peaceful image above the small creek. A nearby plaque tells the history of the bridge. There is parking and a pull-off near the bridge, but no other amenities. Worth seeing if you are in the area and like bridges.

This idyllic bridge was built in the mid 1800s and has miraculously survived without any mortar or…read morereconstruction - the shaping and placement of the arch stones are the only thing holding it up and doing it quite well!! It's an impressive bit of historic architecture. The bridge has a double arch and several pathways - you can walk across it and also walk down by the river to see it from different angles. It's positively lovely in the fall - a gorgeous area full of beautiful autumn colors and a rushing river. There's a small historical sign in the small gravel parking lot. You'll find the parking lot and bridge just off highway 9 and google maps will take you right to it - near the little town of Stoddard. (No bathrooms on site) - Free to enter and very well worth a visit!

**November 2025: Weekday Early Afternoon Visit**…read more To be honest I almost skipped visiting the State Capitol because I foolishly judged it by its size. I thought it was small and thought that it wouldn't be worth the visit, but boy was I wrong. My friend and I arrived around 12:15pm and parked on the street. There's meter parking, but you'll pay by paybyphone.com. I think it's $1 an hour, but I recommend you fill the meter a little longer since it's $.85 extra if you need to add another hour (on top of the $1 per hour). I recommend 4 hours if you plan to visit the New Hampshire Historical Society, and the Library as well. Anyways, my friend and I got there and I was surprised by two things 1) The Hall of Flags all encased made for a really grand entrance and 2) There was no metal detector. We just basically walked in and headed towards the visitor's center towards the right side of the building. We signed our names in the guestbook and one of the volunteers gave us a shpeel about the area we were visiting. She informed us that since New Hampshire is start of the Presidential Primary and that a lot of presidential candidates will make an appearance here to start their campaign. It was kind of cool to stand in the same spot as Biden, McCain, Obama, Carter and many others. We saw went upstairs to the 2nd floor to see the Senate room, Governors Office, Secretary of State's office (and actually got to meet him - David M. Scanlan on our tour), and the house of reps (which was 400 seats!). In summary, never judge a book by it's cover. This small capitol held it's own and is definitely worthy of a visit!

A beautiful state house with a golden dome and an eagle on top. It was built in 1816-1819 as a…read moreGreek Revival style. The land it's on is 2.6-acres with a granite fence. There are seven statues/memorials on the grounds, the oldest being dedicated in 1886. The house chambers holds 400 people, which is the largest in the US. The building is open to the public and there are guided tours. This was part of the self guided walking tour and we enjoyed stopping by to explore it. It's close to everything; there were plenty of parking, restaurants, and shops. Overall, a historic building in a historic area, which is worth a visit.
