The only thing I could think of was a fast food restaurant or a maybe a library. I check the GPS and lo and behold the Newbury Public Library is just up the road. I expected they'd be closed and I wasn't entirely sure that the wifi would work if the place was shut down but I discovered that the password was part of the name and a minute later I've logged on and booked a room on AirBnB. So to the staff and administration of the Newbury Public Library, thank you! Your library was a beacon of sophistication and connection on a cold, dark night where communication was otherwise, surprisingly difficult.

I love our community library. Tracy Library is a treasure in New London. For starters, the building…read moreitself. One of the oldest buildings in town, in the National Register, dating back almost 300 years. Then the facilities. From an outdoor garden for peace and quiet and reading and contemplation, to a beautiful reading room, to a community meeting space frequently used by many organizations. Tracy Library also has an enviable music selection, inter library ability, a large children's section, and a huge reference library. The staff is highly trained, a new director whose aim is to enhance the library's role in the community, and an elected Board of Directors who are residents and neighbors. Truly a magnificent place.

Winnipesaukee Pier is one of those places where you can show up without much of a plan and somehow…read moreend up spending several hours there. There is a lot packed into one area, from shops and restaurants to arcades, ice cream, pizza, bars, and plenty of activities on the water. It has a fun, slightly old-school lakeside amusement atmosphere that works particularly well when you're visiting the Lake Winnipesaukee area. The views are excellent, and being right on the lake gives the whole place a completely different feel than a typical shopping or entertainment area. You can take a boat cruise, rent a jet ski, or even take a boat or train ride, depending on what you're in the mood for. There is also a beach nearby, so you can easily make an entire day out of a visit. I liked the mix of things to do. You can grab something to eat, wander through the shops, play some games, get ice cream, have a drink, and then head back outside to enjoy the lake. It has enough variety that everyone in a group can usually find something they want to do. Parking is probably the biggest drawback. It is limited and you have to pay, although it turns over fairly quickly and being able to park right out front is certainly convenient. The public bathroom could also have been cleaner when we visited. Neither issue ruined the experience, but they are worth mentioning. Overall, Winnipesaukee Pier is a fun place to spend some time when you're in Laconia. Great lake views, plenty of food and entertainment, shops, water activities, and that classic vacation-town atmosphere. It can get busy, but that's part of what gives the place its energy. I'd definitely come back.

This is probably my favorite place to go in our little rural town!…read moreThe staff is always helpful and friendly and the library itself is comfortable and welcoming. There are many wonderful resources available from books to read to kits one can check out to learn about/do a vast variety of things. There is one room with a fireplace and comfy seating where one could sit for hours reading a book, newspaper or magazine. The same room has puzzles set up on tables in case you want to try your hand at something else for a bit. Of course, books line the walls of this room too as they do all the other rooms and nooks and crannies throughout the 2 story building. Upstairs, there is also a Teen Room. There are also computers for use and racks with videos to check out. Downstairs is a fantastic children's room that is appealing to all and beautifully decorated in vibrant colors. More computers, tons of books, play areas and a separate room for story time and other offerings for kids are available. Many adult classes are taught on a regular schedule and they are taught in a downstairs area separate from the children's section. Hours are great---they are open until 8pm 2 nights a week and until 2 on Saturday. Needless to say, Gilford Public Library is a great asset to our town and is enjoyed and appreciated for all it has to offer. It is definitely one of my happy places that I hope to enjoy for many years.

He said: " He/she is trustworthy, helpful loyal, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful, obedient, brave, clean and reverent." These attributes, to me, describe the working people at the Gilford, N.H. library. The Gilford residents should be very proud of their existing, modern, well operated, library.
