LOVE. LOVE. LOVE…read more 8 Stars. (Absolutely unrelated to the fact that the library houses my graduate thesis.) Baker Berry Library is the perfect union of old & new. Old: Baker Library New: Berry Library (Added on later.) Highlights -- * Baker Tower: Centrally located on Dartmouth College's campus, the tower offers the best views of Hanover, New Hampshire. * Borrow Direct: Access to the library collections at Brown, Columbia, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton & Yale. (Why isn't Harvard included?) * Current Periodicals Room: Over 1,000 current issues of science, social science, humanities, & general interest journals. * Evans Map Room: No excuses for bare walls!! * Jones Media Center: My source of entertainment between partying... I mean, studying. Boasts over 5,000 videotapes and 1,000 DVDs. * Book Arts Workshop: The outlet for my creative juices between partying... I mean, studying. * The Tower Room: Dim lights, dark wood & leather seats - Study in classic New England elegance. (Between partying.) * Novak Cafe: Where to grab a quick bite. (On my way to partying.) I want to give Baker Berry 10 stars, but the blitz terminals aren't sanitized frequently enough (at all??) & operating hours should extend to midnight at least. How many times did I try to return my Animal House & Sports Night DVDs en route to frat row, only to be denied?! ...I mean, where am I supposed to study at 11:30 on a Friday night?? Maybe I need a copy of Heidegger's Kant and the Problem of Metaphysics & maybe I need it at a half past 11!

This is a beautiful building. I love the colonial architecture on the outside, but it's really the…read morethemed rooms inside that make this a special space. My friend goes to Dartmouth and gave me a tour of this main building on Campus. I was not expecting the building to be very different inside. There are multiple study area: a traditional dark oak room with chandeliers, a more modern and open study area with lots of light, and a basement area with a large mural. They also have a side room that's in memory of Dr. Seuss, who was an alumni at Dartmouth.

I've never seen a library with so few books. The fiction is mostly old and not much of a selection…read more Non-fiction is a couple of shelves. So if your interested in social sciences, cooking, anything academic your out of luck. The children's section is decent, but that's about it. It's not a welcoming space. I'm perplexed that the library is so disappointing. Hanover has money. This is a small town, so the library is an important part of the community. The fact the main library is the same level as a branch, not a decent one, is just depressing. Go to Lebanon if you want a nice library.

Objectively, Baker Berry limits DVD loans to 3 days & 3 discs. The Howe lets patrons take out 8 DVDs for 2 weeks! Also, Baker Berry forces people to renew DVDs in person whereas Howe items can be renewed by phone as long as no one else put a hold on the same selection. The library is clean & neat. Great views from the windows. Purchase snacks & drinks to enjoy in the little cafe area. Afterwards, sit on a couch in front of a real fireplace in the quiet room. Staff is friendly & extremely helpful. Wifi connectivity is available throughout library.
