They carry only high quality dog and cat food, as well as treats and supplies. It's always nice to see that. They also seem to have the coolest kitty condos - they aren't like the ones you'll see in the chain stores, they're pretty unique looking - and comparably priced (I think I'm going back for one of those!). The guy who runs the shop is really nice and there are a couple of friendly cats who roam the store as well. There is a kitten rescue organization through here, Kitten Angels, and I think they have adoption clinics on Saturdays. We decided to rescue our cats through here and introduced them to our dog with our trainer present; the store was very accommodating. We ended up with two adorable little kittens - one black, one calico - and our house is now quite an exciting place with two cats and a dog. :-) The rescue fee was $100 which doesn't even come close to covering their costs of spaying and having the cats up to date on their shots. I believe some of the cats who aren't in the store are in foster care. It seems like a really good organization and it's nice to see them working with Delmar Pet Supply.

And just as importantly, I was reminded again of the joy of in-store shopping, as I looked in the bargain bins (lots of new stuff for $1!!) and elsewhere. The store reminded me of the days when we had scores of local hardware stores around the corner from my house. The shop was clean, clearly labeled and morganized, well organised, and at least one staff member greeted every person walking past, which really didn't happen that often. Oh, and the price is beyond competitive, and they have their own parking lot so parking wasn't an issue. I would go back to this shop and recommend it to others without hesitation.

Helpful, friendly, cooperative and most of all eager to please. It's so worth it to shop at Young's General Store than any big box store......by a country mile in fact. They're well stocked and if by chance they are low or out of something they can get it very quickly from their other store or at worst tell me when it's arriving from their supplier. My wife is more old school and took me by here on a friends recommendation and as I entered the space I was transported to my childhood when I didn't have an iPad and Amazon wasn't around. I remembered how my love of reading was nurtured in places like this where I discovered Zelazny and Tolkien and Moorcock for the first time. Where I discovered a love for all things science fiction in books like Lucifers Hammer and the Uplift Trilogy. Where I read about any subject I wanted from the history of the black death to the Occult writings of Crowley, Lavey, and Starhawk. The used book stores of my day were the fertilizers of my imagination as a kid and I had in many ways forgotten, or at least allowed them to slumber like Rip Van Winkle until awoken anew by the musty smell and creaking floor boards of this new reminder. I remembered how so many of these books have been taken and then returned to in turn be passed on to future generations. It warmed my heart to know there are still places like this around that manage to make the business model work. I had largely assumed that they were all gone to be honest. The owner, Dan, was knowledgeable and able to assist my wife with some recommendations for new reads. If you go here be sure to ask about the purple bucks which are basically a a paper rewards program in the form of purple paper money you can spend at the store. Also, be sure to call ahead before going to pay a visit. Dan is semi retired and so the store could be closed. Especially on a Monday.

She helped us pick out dog food that was is similar to the one we have been using for our dogs because we could not find the product that we have been using in this area. We moved from out of state and the very nice young professional employee found us another food that was very similar. And it's local and a family owned business. Which we really like to support. She also informed us that the food that we buy at a local grocery store was recalled and we had no idea that was happening. When I first got my pups, Healthy Pet was the only place where I could find natural food options for dogs. So that leads me to believe they are in the know on what's best for your pets, before other stores do. Another reason I like coming here, are the free roaming cats. No, I'm not a crazy cat lady!! It's fun when for me when I come across one, and a couple are very friendly and like to be pet. This is something I like because my daughter is allergic to cats and I can no longer have kitties in my place. Years ago, my father brought me here and we discovered they had cats available for adoption. Of course I fell in love with one and had to have her. The process and what they required for someone to adopt was a bit strict. They will not let you adopt if you plan on letting the cat out. At least back then they wouldn't. We got a lecture on the dangers of letting a cat outdoors and we had to swear we'd keep her inside. I thought this was a bit much. But when the lecture was over and I swore I'd keep her inside, I left with a kitty. They have a program for pet food, where if you buy ten bags, you get one free. I personally think this is a good deal. The pet bed and leash/harness selection isn't great, but they have enough. They have bulk bird food I buy for both my outside bird feeders and my inside parakeet, who has a preference for their bird food. They have a nice fish selection, both salt water and fresh. And they still have a cat adoption clinic, in their store. Every time I go there, there are quite a few available. If you're looking for specialty dog food brands, or the usual brands, and a more personal form of customer service, this is a nice place. I'm giving four stars and not five because of their requirements for cat adoptions, semi limited hours, and lack of non food dog items such as leashes etc. Oh, the cat I adopted, Sophie. She lived to be 13 and was an outdoor cat her whole life. She could often be found under the lilac tree or on the walkway getting a cat tan, often accompanied by the other outdoor cats of the neighborhood.
