They have boxes of dollar deals - which is much better than shopping with arrogant hop-head mall rats at Best Buy or digging for stuff at the local yard sale. Darkside Records is a must visit if you're in the Hudson Valley…read more Justin is awesome and the whole team is friendly, and super knowledgeable without being 'record store pretentious.' The new space is unreal and holds countless vinyl records, CDs, video games, DVDs, VHS, etc. along with so many cool products ranging from swag and gifts, to cannabis equipment and incense. Darkside has a great website to place orders in case you can't stop in in person. Even as a local, I place preorders online for new music, and always can rely on them to have what I'm looking for, including indie-exclusive pressings and vinyl variants. As a loyal customer for nearly 11 years, it's been great to see this business grow into what it is today. Excited for what this new chapter brings to them, and our community. The new Darkside is more than just a storefront, but a community and a VIBE! Soon, it looks like they'll have self pouring taps for customers, as well as a bar on the second floor. A great local bookstore…read more There is like 1 maybe 2 people that seem to work here. The shelves are loaded with all types of books from woodworking to youth fiction to historical works. Just everything under the sun, and they all seem very fairly priced. My son found a number of great kids books, I found a book on Mission style furniture making, and my wife found a number of novels she was interested in. Something for everyone and a lot to look through! TL;DR: Good bookstore, fair priced.

This place is MAGIC!…read more Absolutely the neatest, most organized book store I've ever been in. The selection is amazing - and the condition of the books is beautiful. I could get lost for hours! My mom has randomly asked me if I knew a used bookstore with old vet manuals (like for cows, etc) and I happened to walk by this place a couple days later, so I popped in. I found several OLD (1904-ish) farm vet type books. Upon checking out, I told the owner how thrilled I was to find them, and he recommended I go upstairs, second door, second shelf from the top, closest to the window.... he knows every book in the place! And word is he has another warehouse full of books!! They're only open 11-5 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so I plan to go back at 10:59 with snacks and stay the duration. Poor guy is gonna have to throw me out!

That said, the Re-Collector has picked up a few gems so if you're a hard core collector, you'll likely spend a little time flipping through the bins. There's some CDs, DVDs, cassettes, and even a shelf of 8-tracks, and then a bunch of completely randomized tschotschkes. While I'm a sucker for this sort of thing usually we haven't found anything interesting on repeated visits. The music and vibe can be interesting or annoying, which goes double for the Re-Collector himself; he seems to be a bit moody. The store's pretty cramped, too, so go in with your claustrophobia under control and I recommend not taking any bags in, either. Worth a buzz-by if you like random odd used stuff stores, but not a can't miss one-of-those-things IMHO.
