This farm to table dinner, prepared by incredible chefs and an inside look into where your food is…read morecoming from is just WOW. I would never have thought that this is the perfect way for a city gal like me to spend a Saturday afternoon, but it was beyond my expectations. From the fun bus ride to the farm to the snacks, tours of both the butchering facility and farm, meeting and getting to spend time with this wonderful family who has so much pride, talent and genuine business sense to get something like this up and running...it was wonderful. I got to experience some incredible food from the chefs of Rootstock and Found. It was an honor to enjoy such wonderful food with some really great people. This is a must do if you are looking for a quality meal in an environment much different from your usual city spots. I highly recommend making this a date or going with a small group of friends. Can't say enough about what a wonderful experience this truly was!

I am on the bus ride back to Chicago as I write this review that is how excited I am. We just spent…read morethe entire day at Slagel getting a butchering demo, an extensive tour of the farm, and enjoying a dinner prepared by Jason Hammel of Lula Cafe/no-more Nightwood and Mike Simmons of Rootstock/soon-to-come Calaugusta Cafe (bonus pts if you can tell me what intersection that'll be at! Hint: it's quite obvious). I've seen Slagel on so many Chicago restaurant menus, besides the above mentioned: Publican, Girl and the Goat, Perennial Virant, Trenchermen, Owen and Engine, just to name a few. I really loved learning about their practices of small farm farming and their stance behind the quality of their meats. Chicken should taste like chicken MIRITE?!? We met their cows and sheep and goats and pigs and piglets galore! Pretty sure by the end the bf was tired of all my Babe quotes. LouisJohn does a great job telling the story and giving the tour. He's just a likeable guy. The tour was very conversational and he answered any questions we had. Cost per person is currently $125 and well worth it. They offer a charter bus that picks you up at a location downtown, most likely at one of the restaurants of the chefs, if you don't want to make the scenic 2 hour drive of corn. Dinner is BYOB so you may want to take advantage of the bus anyway. Highly recommended if you're looking for a Saturday outing. They offer tours/dinners with rotating chefs a couple times a month (I think there's one left in October for this year!!!!). We had about 50ish people total in the group. They have a cute little event space where snacks and dinner are served. It's communal seating and we met some lovely people. And I don't know what farm those grapes were from but they were amazing. PRO TIP: Bring a cooler, you'll want to buy some cuts of meat off the freshly butchered animal. They also sell eggs and some frozen cuts. I'm hesitant to post pics of the experience because you should just go enjoy it for yourself!! I've had a lot of wine with dinner so I'm gonna go take a nap now for the remainder of this bus ride.

A good place to get basic cat and dog food items, and they do have some speciality pet products…read more They don't carry the freeze dried treats as a regularly stocked item, so I have called to order the items and get a large bag of each. I have ordered Northwest Naturals brand twice now, and have been very pleased with the quality of the product. The product is very fresh and made in Oregon, you can see the difference in the quality of the pieces when compared to other brands. It is a good value as it is $25.69 for a large 10 ounce bag of freeze dried chicken hearts. I also order the freeze dried chicken breast treats for cats by the same brand, same price. Unfortunately, they also do not carry frozen raw meat for cats which was disappointing. I also attempted to order a small container of meat, and the Jess called to let me know the only item I can get is a chicken frozen container but I have to buy a case of 12 (nope). I have resorted to mail order through another resource for the raw cat meat since I cannot order through Country Brothers. The staff waiting at the register are very young and don't always know what products I am asking for, but there is usually a manager there to help answer questions.

Staff is extremely unwelcoming, won't even offer a smile or a greeting when entering the business…read more There's typically 2 people behind the counter standing around and neither will acknowledge when someone walks in the door. This is not just a one time experience, I visit every month and receive the same treatment every time I go. Fortunately I was able to return some new kibble that my pets were not interested in, after opening the bag but it felt as if I was bothering them by trying to make the return. I prefer a friendlier experience so I will be shopping for my monthly supply of pet food somewhere else.
