I have been coming here since going to school at IU to stock up on cheap affordable IU gear! Prices on T-shirts and Crewneck sweaters can't be beat and they are all mostly Gildan brand! As a gentleman of masculine pastimes, whenever i go to a new town I immediately begin gambling. I used a search assistant feature on my new model mobile phone to find Tracks, which I assumed was the town's horse racetrack. I had a hard time finding a place to park, due to the abundance of vehicles already taking up all of the spots. I drove for over an hour looking for a place to park. I eventually drove back to my home in Indianapolis, Indiana and took an Uber to Tracks. It was a long drive, but I gave the nice driver some very enlightening life advice as a tip. He was receptive, grateful and kissed my hand as I exited the vehicle. When I walked into Tracks for the first time, I knew I was in the wrong place. So I walked out the door and entered again. The second time, I knew I was still in the wrong place. I decided to ask some people in the shirt section what was going on and why there were no horses in here. No cashiers. No tickets littering the floors. They seemed genuinely confused, and offered me nosatisfying answer. I noticed a tall gentleman working behind the counter and thought "finally!, a guy who knows what's going on!". To the best of my recollection this was our conversation: "Hello, sir, I enjoy your location but dislike the parking options, could you point me to the horses" "Sorry about the parking it can be bad on the weekends. What horses do you mean?" "The racehorses, the ponies, where is the TRACK?" "Sir, we are a record store and sell IU merchandise, I think you might have us confused with someone else." "of course not, I knew all along" In an attempt to play off my blunder, I shimmied to the shelves containing large circular music. I browsed through their selection not knowing what to do next. My car was in Indianapolis, I spent all of my money on a Uber, and now I am pretending to want to buy circular music. When they weren't looking I did a military crawl out of the door. Went in to the store to buy records... I'm not one of those people who are bothered by the extra merch that Tracks sells. Biggest reason for the poor review is that that they sell unofficially pressed albums with no indication (they can plead ignorance, but I expect better from a record store). Unofficial records are album's pressed without the consent of the copyright holder and tend to be low quality. Paying $45 for an album that's not an official pressing and such guaranteed quality is very disappointing. read more

Tracks is kind of a confusing place. The name relays a huge music store. Outside the store they have some great bargain bins for CDs and DVDs. Then you enter and it's a store completely filled with college attire. T-Shirts, sweatpants, shorts...just tons of college apparel..everywhere. Now, there is music..lining the walls..kind of stuffed in there amongst all the clothing. You kind of have to squeeze into these small openings to browse the music. If someone else is looking at a section don't even bother. So strange. I was determined to find at least something at each store that I went to so I did end up making a purchase. But it was kind of difficult. Now don't get me wrong, what got me about this store was how it was not what it portrayed itself as. As a college apparel store it seemed just fine. The staff was nice and they were pretty busy on the Sunday afternoon we were there. I just don't know why they even bother having music there anymore. If I had to guess they probably were struggling selling music so they started bringing in the clothing to stay above water. Then when it started selling good they just kept adding more and more until it pretty much took over the store. Because, let me tell you, the store was bustling with people, and maybe one or two of them were in there for the music..if that. They should just rename this place "INDIANA COLLEGE APPAREL OUTLET!!! ...with some tracks thrown in along the walls". So people aren't duped and disappointed when they realize that that's what it is. read more

Tracks is a pretty cool little shop. I ended up walking out of there with stuff that I didn't even know that I wanted, not to mention a few things for which I had been looking for a while. They have a ton of used DVDs for cheap--$4 to $8 per movie. I also saw Seasons 5 and 6 of Curb Your Enthusiasm for $25. I didn't look too closely at used CDs but I did pick up a brand-new copy of the New Pornographers' recent release Together for only eleven bucks. They also have a bunch of LPs and a big rack of IU t-shirts, not to mention all the recordable media (DVD-Rs, CD-Rs, even VHS and audio cassettes) that you could ever need. read more

Great selection of IU apparel, but I do miss when Tracks was a real record store. Now it kind of reminds me of the Discount Den at Purdue, still a campus landmark, but not filled with all the cool stuff I want. Tracks was always less pretentious than any of the other record stores. I guess it's good that it still has that yummy record store smell. Being a new Hoosier, I was super excited to start collecting spirit wear. After surveying other comparable shops on the strip, Tracks is decidedly the perfect blend between quality product and fair pricing. The store itself was kept pretty clean and had social distancing and mask wearing procedures in place. Highly recommend to all Hoosier fans! read more

Not a fan of their music selection or prices. For that, go to Landlocked. But this is a good place for Indiana University apparel. They have a nice selection and reasonable prices. However, they don't have a fitting room, which feels like a significant miss. read more

I love this place, especially if you're looking for some cute IU apparel without breaking the bank. The clothing here is great quality and super inexpensive, and the staff is super nice. They do not have a fitting room which kinda sucks, but they are awesome about returns/exchanges. I really liked Tracks when I first came to Bloomington as a freshman back in 2005. It was always a good place to find used CDs and I went there frequently. Something, however, happened a few years ago. They started selling IU clothing. I think this happened right after the Steve & Barry's closed. I don't necessarily have an issue with them carrying the apparel, it's more that they devoted the front half of the store to the merchandise. If one didn't already know Tracks sold music and video, they wouldn't know it walking past today. And in order to make way for the apparel, everything else in the store is horribly cramped, making it hard to browse. I still go if I'm trying to find something specific, but usually only if I've already looked at Landlocked and TD's and failed to find that item (which is rare). read more

I have shopped many times at Tracks. They have a wide selection of vinyls from new to used and pretty much every genre of music you could think of. Their whole back wall from the floor to the ceiling is vinyl. They also have a whole selection of vinyls on sale, as if they already were not a great price compared to other record stores. On top of that, every week the do a selection of vinyls that they put on sale making prices more reasonable than they already were. I have gotten at least 30 from them. read more

This place is one of the only places around town that buys back dvds and music cds. That is great considering how most everything is moving toward HD and digital. The biggest downside of this place is that they are nit picky on what they will buy back. The condition isn't as nit picky, but which titles they will buy back are kind of crappy. I walked in here with a big box of dvds and games, about 26 titles. They bought 16 of them and I walked out with $6 and some change. I only sold them the ones they chose to save a trip and because there's no telling if ace's pawn shop would buy them or how much they would give. If you're looking to sell, it's not worth the gas money to sell them here. You're much much more likely to get better offers on Onestart (if you're an IU student) or craigslist. Their prices are also pretty high. When I was waiting for their "offer," I looked around and they didn't have any newer games. The older titles they had like for ps2 are about the same as you would expect at gamestop. Why buy games here when you can get the same price at gamestop, plus a much larger selection? If you come here, I would recommend doing so solely for hard to find media like LP's or to sell back dvd's and games that clutter up your home and if you don't care about how much you get back. I can see why they charge more since they are a struggling townie based store, but I don't see why they don't seem to show an attempt to at least compete with any other local store like best buy. My bottom line is it's not a great store, but better than nothing. read more

Tracks rocks! Huge selection, lots of used CDs and some random DVDs and LPs. The floor has some cool Persian rugs, and the employees are always helpful- some of the most music savvy people I have ever met worked there. There are always some recently released discs available to listen to with headphones. The franchise stores cannot have the service a store like this provides, these guys care about what the customer likes and have the knowledge to suggest similar artists. I live in a town where there are only franchise stores- nothing like Tracks. So you Bloomingtonians are blessed with a cool shop and will not know what you are missing until you don't have it. read more

I can't comment about the music selection, just the random IU apparel they sell. It's cheap and probably falls apart after three washings but 2 shirts for $13.98? Okay, you got me. The staff only makes eye contact with you if you need assistance or you make a purchase. That is also fine with me. Seriously, has one of the most diverse music collections I have ever come across. You can find old classics on vinyl, or you can choose from a variety of mainstream and underground artists on cd. If anything, you could just stop in to add to your IU attire. The manager and employees design much of what is sold, so as to provide clothing students and parents would actually want to wear in a regular basis. I don't even go to IU and, yet, I own more clothing with the IU logo then I do of my own school (all from tracks). This should speaks volumes about the quality and aesthetic appeal of the clothing sold at this store. If you are passing through for a game, or are currently a student, I highly recommend you make some time to stop in at Tracks on Kirkwood. read more

Tracks is probably the worst record store in Bloomington. All of the other stores have that record store feel, but Tracks dedicates their time to IU apparel and over priced records. An Album for $10 at there would be a $3 at the other stores. I would skip over this place and go to the other stores. read more

Tracks has been a great place to buy records, in any format, & audiophile gear for years. The IU gear that a previous user complained of can be attributed to the unreasonable false real estate market landowners have created, combined with the dull witted masses who are more inclined to buy a pompom for the game than vinyl, & if they buy the latter, go pick up a reprint of some indie gone mainstream records from decades past at Urban Outfitters. Identify the problem and refuse to be part of it. read more

I don't know what these other two people are thinking... It's not a video game store, it's a music store, which hardly merits as a reason to give Tracks ONE star. Vinyl records are expensive, it's called inflation Ms. Anthro. That's the dead bottom truth. And while I agree that Tracks is a bit pricey, I find it easier to go to Tracks than searching on the internet for the best possible deal. Tracks has a great selection on used and new vinyl records and CDs. The staff is friendly and cool, and they've always been able to help me out when I'm looking for something odd and/or specific. I find that their selection and staff is better than the other two record stores downtown. These other two reviews are obviously people that went there once and wanted to complain about it, which I find extremely lame. The worst "record store" I've ever visited, and I've visited quite a few. As a few others might have mentioned, LPs are relegated to the back of the store to make room for IU hoodies of every sickening shade of pastel. Tracks is the sort of place where you'll find a common Zappa record (and many other run-of-the-mill classic rock records) in VG/VG+ shape for around $24. Whatever pricing criteria the dude uses is completely bogus. Having said that, some of the new vinyl is marked down a bit. It's like the owner assumes that all original press records must be worth ebay "buy it now" prices...or more. If you think you might have better luck shopping for CDs at Tracks, think again. Used CDs are never a deal here. Finally, to satisfy the lame 50 yr old dads in the area, the management has set up a Rolling Stone "top 100 albums of all time" section in used vinyl. It really sucks Tracks got overtaken with IU memorabilia, but I was very impressed with their record selection. Possibly the best in town for punk/indie records. Best prices too. Sign up for their VIP list, new records go on extra sale every week for VIPs and all you have to do is give your email. I saved 40% on the record I wanted. Would give 5 stars if half the store wasn't filled with shitty IU gear. read more

Ive/we've been to Tracks many times over the last several years and HAVE ALWAYS come out the door with something purchased! Granted, some, NOT MANY, albums are rather overpriced for the condition they are in, BUT there is so much other goodies that eschew that 'so-called fallable problem', one SHOULD BE ABLE to get something he/she/they are in the mood/looking for! (I/we ALWAYS have...my wife and I!) For those hollering/bitching/whining/etc that Fleetwood Mac albums at $6 to $8 dollars are too much to spend....I say, "Put It Back Where You Got It From and Go Someplace Else, D-I-G, okay????!!!!! Do these same folks go to their 'local beer garden/hang out/pizza joint/chain restaurant/Starbucks/ice cream parlor' and BEMOAN THEIR high prices and DEMAND/ASK for a reduction in prices? Doubt it, so then the why so's when it comes to music, let alone any other kind of media inc. dvds/books/etc??? Oh I get it....one needs to express the 'entitlement mentality' i.e. 'financially compensate me' because of the habits/vices/addictions/etc I have already(cigarettes/booze/foodie blowouts/et al). BTW-one CAN bring back their merchandise (new or pre-loved) if its not in good playable condition and get a refund/exchange. So whats wrong with that? Just drove nearly 70 mile round trip to record shop to only find the vinyl section was under construction/closed. It would have been nice to see this notification on their website. Could have saved several gallons of expensive gasoline not to mention a couple hours of my time! read more
