long-time collectible toy store planted in the East Village. Toy Tokyo is filled with toys from various corners of pop culture from Star Wars to superheroes to anime and more. the street level floor is packed from floor to ceiling with small boxed items to much larger items on display to more valuable ones in glass cabinets. the below street level floor is filled with anime-centric collectibles and toys. definitely can find more unique items for those who are hard to shop for...BUT you'll pay the price as items here are priced fairly aggressively...then again, you're buying things on the spot versus eBay or other online platforms where you have to deal with scammers, having an items being shipped, etc. all in all i like this store for finding gift items for people who love fairly nerdy pop culture. the staff are friendly enough and the store is neatly organized though it's interior can be overwhelming as there is so much to go through if you don't have a specificity item in mind.

Sonny Angel found here $9.99

Definitely a store you want to check out if you're looking for Sonny Angel! Walked to three different stores around town before I stumbled into Toy Tokyo. They did not disappoint, they have many different figures. 10/10 will be coming back for more.

SO MANY BLIND BOXES!! I usually go for their Smiskis, they usually have so many series in stock! Recently prices have gone up from $8.99 to $9.99 (Smiskis have definitely been trending lately lol). They also carry sonny angels and really cute Pokémon blind boxes! They have a bunch of toys, plushes, figurines, keychains, you name it of quite literally anything pop culture related. Downstairs they have anime merch. Overall, a solid spot for any collector or if you need to find a gift for someone!

Lots and lots of unique Japanese themed toys. I'm not really into anime and stuff but was impressed by the large unique selection of toys. There is a downstairs too but they didn't have that much stuff downstairs. Stay on the main level if you are tight on time.

The various Re-ment models you can pick up at Toy Tokyo...
Kevin K.

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Toy Tokyo. The missus collects Re-Ment food models (the Petit Sample line in particular), while I collect F-Toys trade models. Every time me and the missus hits the east village for Okonomiyaki we usually stroll down 2nd Avenue, and whenever we roll past 5th street we will stop in. Either we: A) Spot new Re-Ment models and drop a few dollars Or B) No new Re-Ment shows up, and we leave empty handed. For those of you bitching about pricing...rent in the East village always go up, and as the old saying goes, "kids gotta eat". If you hit places like Image Anime in midtown for your Gunpla you are playing at least a 30% markup. The Re-ment models are 700 yen each if you pick it off the shelf at a kombini like Lawsons or Circle-K back in Japan. You can definitely buy online via sites like 1999, HLJ, or eBay, sometimes at a slight discount or around retail pricing. The only difference is that you'll have to pay the shipping and have the patience to wait. Paying 80 dollars (including shipping) for a set of Re-ment models from Hong Kong seems like a good idea, assuming that you want the entire set. If you want a certain item and it's sold out, you can always try your hand at secondary markets like Yahoo Auctions JP, and use a 3rd party bidding service like Buyee - I got some trade models, Tomicas, Plarail trains and capsule toy sets this way, and often at a decent price. This goes for everything on the glass shelves at Toy Tokyo - there are many more toy vendors in Japan who are willing to deal, small packet shipping via EMS is not that expensive, and it's just your ability to hustle. So why still go to Toy Tokyo? The same reason why you go to the mall even when Amazon.com exists - you want to see toys in person, and you want some now. Convenience and immediate availability comes at a price, and the price is that mark-up. That's the reason why we peel a Hamilton or 2 from my wallet whenever the Re-Ment sets look promising. The willingness also come with local market knowledge...Mitsuwa charges 13 bucks for the same item, Little Japan charges 16, and both are in New Jersey. Teso Life or Sunrise Mart doesn't even carry them, so in terms of limited competition, Toy Tokyo wins on pricing and availability. However, this does not address the fact that beyond the Re-Ment and the stuff on the shelves, Toy Tokyo doesn't have much variety...there are plenty of interesting trade models and toys available from Japan, and they are barely scratching the surface. Why sell a little Bandai bus model from Japan or a F-Toys Samurai sword set when F-Toys have a nice Acura NSX or Nissan GTR trade model set (13 bucks at Teso Life and Mitsuwa?!) Or maybe a figurine or an airliner...but nope, real narrow focus, and not much variety. I would rather bitch about them taking too much of my money, then calling their wares uninspiring...because they are. So yeah, I love it when they have new Re-Ment, but I hate it when they got nothing else to interest me. Fix this, Toy Tokyo.

Methinks that spinach was laced with something...

When one of your kids gets obsessed with anime (thanks Netflix!) you surprise him with a visit here. From the outside it didn't look like much, I won't lie. But as soon as you walk in... it's damn impressive. Now I don't know my Saitama from my Goku but this place seems to have pretty much a little bit of everything. From the expected (Star Wars - including a great collectable of IG88 - the coolest bounty hunter there is [sorry Boba, you're a close second], Godzilla, various Marvel comic/movie tie-in toys) to the unexpected (Clockwork Orange, Beastie Boys 18" dolls inside a sardine can, busts of rappers that have passed away) to the downright bizarre (demented versions of cereal mascots like a fat Tony the Tiger and diabetic Toucan Sam). The pricing is a bit on the evil side (yes - this is NYC, yes - a lot of this is meant to be collector items and not stuff for people to actually play with) and while my anime-loving-kid left happy with his purchase (a really cool item from the manga 'One Piece')- he'd want me to mention he was bummed they didn't have an entire section dedicated to Japanese gum and candy. And the crew behind the counter are EXACTLY what you expect and want... a mix of snark and wisdom that's equal parts Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino.

Awesome store!!!

This toy store is amazing. Almost every item is rare; any items I saw before were super rare. If you're looking for unique gifts for yourself or others who love science fiction, anime or Japan centric toys and collectibles, this is the place. I could spend all day in this store. They have items ranging in cost from $25 and under to hundreds of dollars, and all of them are unique. Loved all the cinema and television based toys! Best of its kind I've seen.

Cute horror tea party

Does Toy Tokyo have a downstairs section? I went in the other day and didn't notice it but am now reading that there is a funko section downstairs.

Yes, downstairs has a bunch of funko pieces.

Playing catch up here. So it was the first Saturday in May which to comic book geeks both far and…read morewide means "Free Comic Book Day" and oddly enough I was completely in the unaware about this comic store only a few hours earlier from my walking into the place. My learning about it was fortuitous as I had just left the famed Forbidden Planet and began talking to a nice family of fellow collectors about the packet of comic books that we had just received as a part of FCBD. We talked about where each of us were heading next and while I said Midtown Comics near Grand Central was my next stop they replied "Montasy Comics" was theirs. A quick Google search found the location and away I went. So the store is quite easy to get too but it might be something that you walk right past once you are in the vicinity since its not on the ground level and is instead upstairs. There is an elevator and stairs but I opted for the elevator. Once inside I immediately loved the layout of the place. There were numerous glass cases of collectible trading cards in the front where the staff usually is and while I am not one for those things they did seem to have an ample supply. Towards the end on opposing sides were racks and racks of new and recent comic books along with a myriad of collected editions and even scores of Funko Pops. If you collect the Pops, you're likely going to find a few that you like at Montasy Comics. The FCBD Stuff was being handed out by one of the staff in the rear of the shop and everything was already in bags to make this an easy free transaction. Sometimes, the free issues are all laid out for folks to pick and choose from but in this case it was not that way. I didn't go through anything and would save that reveal for a fun YouTube video but either way it felt like a decent amount of issues were in the bag and that is always nice to see. Generally with FCBD its nice to also try and make a purchase since while this event is free to customers the shops have to pay for all of the books. I was looking for a copy of "Sister Imperator" from Dark Horse Comics but they had no idea what I was talking about. It's an independent release about a Ghost band connected character but I digress. There was an upstairs but I didn't explore that and also they had a number of tables set up in the center of the store where they hold Magic and I guess Pokemon tournaments along with any other of the popular TCG (trading card games for the newbies). The visit was brief but overall a positive one. I will try to visit them again in the future if I am over there. I saw some complaints about high prices or lack of a refund on something that broke when the purchaser was putting it together and all I can say on that is when something becomes rare based on being limited or hard to get it will be more costly. As far as breakage during assembly, I've often found that it was due to improper practices by friends or even myself. A shop doesn't owe me restitution by my breaking something and that is how it goes. Happy Collecting my Friends

There are a series of special sports rookie cards that are well priced compared to what's posted online. If you're a basketball fan like me, you'll find a good selection like rookie cards of Victor Wembenyama and OG Anunoby There's definitely a following of people who come here and play cards and a relaxed, comfortable setting. Although the shop is small, it is well located in Manhattan offering very competitive pricing.

Very close to all the train routes. Shelves are stocked and neatly organized for the most part. This spot is supposedly smaller than other locations in the city. But that's okay, at least I didn't see anything like toys lying on the floor. No kids running around. Clean aisles + brightly lit area + decently spacious to walk around on your own. Surprised to see some Squishmallows peeking out in between other plushies. So, I was trying to reach for the ones from the top shelf. Staff from afar saw me struggling to reach but didn't offer any help + kept looking on and went back to chatting/joking with a coworker. This was around 9:30pm on a Sunday evening. I guess just a minor hiccup there, I will let it pass. Customers can find a limited yet decent selection of things like electronics, groceries, beauty and skincare/makeup, hygiene related products etc in each of their specific sections/aisles. The designs on greeting cards looked lovely. Some things were on sale like cat food - $10 for 12 cans. You just gotta stroll around to find out. It's convenient to have a Target in Midtown/next to the major train lines. Maybe I will stop by again, hopefully the service from employees will be better next time.
