We were getting dressed for the party when we realized we'd forgotten to pack our four-year-old's clothes, stacked in a neat pile back in Los Angeles. Instead of letting him arrive in a dirty T-shirt and jeans, I rushed to Chicken Little for a ten-minute State Street shopping spree. My husband called ahead, so there was a sales lady waiting for me, ready to show me where to look for little boy party clothes. I quickly found some comfortable-looking denim pants dark enough to pass for chinos, as well as a couple of button-down shirts and a nice sweater--I was going to cover my bases. I was about to check out and run when I remembered our son might also want socks, underwear, and clean clothes for the next day, and I was able to procure everything in another few minutes of furious shopping. I even found birthday cards for Grandma Robyn and my father-in-law, who was also celebrating a birthday. I didn't have time to explore and appreciate the rest of the store, but it was big and charming, well stocked with toys and gifts in addition to all the wardrobe necessities. Service was fantastic. The woman helping me even said I could return whatever I wanted, but everything was cute and high quality, so I kept it all. I am now a devoted Chicken Little customer, and will come back any time I need kid gear in Santa Barbara.

I stayed there for at least 15 minutes looking around trying to find a good deal. A few things I noticed where that their sealed product ranged from slightly over to well over market value (the average price of the item's value/price). After looking for a while I found a card that was worth $70 USD and was priced at $60, I then tried to negotiate to get it at $50 and it worked! We stopped by the Nurture Cottage when we were walking on Coast Village Road one morning last month and my husband wrangled the toddler while I browsed the store, ready to hand over our money. The place was super cute, a sweet little building with a barn door and enticing display windows. I asked the cashier, who I think was the owner, where I might find 24-month clothes for boys and she directed me to the right areas. I ended up getting Angel Dear bear print pajamas and a set of Sol Angeles sweatshirt and joggers. Check-out was easy and fast and the woman helping me was friendly. Both the pajamas and the sweats are in heavy rotation on the baby, and I liked the Sol Angeles set so much that I bought an identical one for myself (I wear it for days at a time). We look very cute in our matching outfits--he looks extremely cute and I look like a grown woman in sweats, but it averages out. I'll probably be back to Nurture Cottage next time I'm in Montecito, and I expect to find more nice clothes to dress my little model of a boy.

I'm giving this store in Paseo Nuevo mall a 2 as the store clerk was simply rude, cranky and appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic. He was wearing a hoody and sitting behind the cashier table. He would not look up an item on the computer and would not assist in locating a game. I was afraid of children entering this store due to his behavior, but there didn't appear to be a supervisor present and the clerk would not acknowledge if there was one.
