When I first sent out an online request for a landscaper in my Southern Maryland area I received…read morefive replies. The first one never showed up, the next one came 15 minutes late and showed little interest in what I wanted. One gave me a price of $10,000 more than J&R gave me for the same initial work. And the other spoke to me like I was born yesterday. I'm a 70 year old woman and resented that. Back to J&R Chavez Landscaping. Jose Chavez listened closely to everything I said and he and his employees carried out every task quickly and perfectly. In fact, way beyond what I had even hoped for and envisioned in the first place. I first started with just wanting a maintenance free yard going into the next summer. For over 20 years I had tried everything to get my yard to look like some kind of oasis, but because of our soil and shade issues being different all around, nothing ever worked. We have a very large yard full of trees. I planted here, there and everywhere, placed rock, walkways, and tried everything I could to make things nice. Since my husband and I are older now I just wanted a low maintenance yard that we could just enjoy instead of working on all the time. So Jose came in and turned the clock back on my yard 20 years to when it was just green and clean, and modernized the home at the same time. It started with small wants but on a grand scale. But everytime my requested projects were completed and I saw the quality of work in the outcome, I'd look again and see something else I wanted. Jose gave me a price for new work as we went along and we just kept going so far that I ended up getting a brand new front porch, beautiful landscaping, a newly painted pool deck, pavers, new indoor stair railings, and lots more open yard space with the removal of a lot of trees and seeding all around and widening the driveway area by cutting back a lot of brush and small worthless trees. Jose and his crew are very respectful, kind, and hardworking. The pricing has been consistently fair and I'm sure extremely competitive. Getting this work done was a very big deal for me money-wise and I am very pleased with all that has been done. From their expertise in landscaping to construction, you can do no better than J&R Chavez.

I purchased what was supposed to be a sugar maple. Planted it, it leafed and it turned out to be a Norway Maple. An invasive species in some states. Reached out to them in person, rep could not help, took my name and number and no call back. I called. No call back. Asked my landscaper to reach out to them since he does a lot of business with them. The landscaper did, and got nothing but pushback and denial, "we have not sold that type of Maple in 20 years" Obviously, the grower made a mistake, but still, Wentworth's did not stand behind any part of this. That is unfortunate. So now I am out $179 + tax + a fee to get it planted. Wentworth's will be last on my list of nurseries that I will do any business with in the future.

He's not a very polite individual is kind of rude and he does not give a darn about the neighbors…read moreadjacent to the property that he cuts in our area you ask him nicely not to shoot their grass clippings into your yard and he does it anyway and the thing is is the neighbor doesn't have grass they have weeds he Parks practically in the middle of the street blocking the entrance with his long trailer and yet that we spent money to have an asphalt side of the road put outside the neighborhood to make it easy for long companies to park there and then come inside the neighborhood with their equipment due to work and leave he chooses to block the road and when you politely ask him on he scoffs at you he's rooting nasty he's used obscene language on numerous occasions and on several occasions when you start to walk up to him to ask him please don't do that he takes his leaf blower turns around and blows dirt dust and debris right in your face he'll start blowing on the ground first and then push it right up into your face to make you walk away from what I understand the man's name is Julio he's the owner from what I'm doing what I gather and when you finally can get them corner to say Hey listen please August he says I don't take orders from you I'm a business owner I don't listen to anyone anymore owning a business doesn't mean you don't have to listen to people it's our neighborhood and he's that rude and belligerent When you post little stakes in the ground like those what are they call them fiberglass rods to let you know where things are if there was a lot of snow on the ground I've done that to mark off where my sprinkler heads are he intentionally uses the weed whacker to knock them over or chew them up I've had to replace them three times in the past year and a half two years that he's been cutting grass for a neighbor in this neighborhood I've asked the neighbor to talk to him the neighbors talk to him and he just doesn't care I guess it's because his prices are so inexpensive but just cuz your price is inexpensive doesn't mean you can get away with being rude to the neighbors and damaging their property and knocking down their steaks that indicate where the property line is or the sprinkler heads are I mean those little rods aren't cheap and he's used his weed wacker to chew up five of them and those things are like six or seven dollars each at the United rentals or any other hardware store that sells equipment like that he's just not a very nice person we've even had the deputies and the state police ask him not to park them instead of you park there again parking in the corner like that obstructing traffic coming into this neighborhood you're going to get cited but he does it anyway because he knows that it's not a high priority and that he'll be done cutting the grass in about 30 to 35 minutes at the most 40 but yet he causes issues with the handicap school bus that comes in another neighborhood

While the team was on site, Milton asked me if there was any other trees that needed to be addressed. I pointed out two already dead White Oak trees, both over 60 feet tall, a Bradford Pear tree in a field of bamboo, an Eastern Red Cedar that had been damaged by the blizzard of '22 and noted a couple of low-hanging branches on a Scotch Pine tree that was too close to the ground for the vehicles that parked under it. All of it was taken care of and when I asked for the chipped wood to be left on my property, they asked where I wanted it and left it as I asked. Some of the wood chips are still smoking to this day from the heat of the chipper itself.
