My rides were fine. The bus was full on the ride back, and it wasn't a good situation for reading,…read morebut still, cool air blew straight on me and I was as comfortable as I could be on a crowded bus. The worst thing that happened was that my phone ran out of juice right before I got on it, and I was using Uber to get from the park and ride station back home, and I had to sit on the station floor to charge up my phone enough to be able to let my wife know I was safe and to be able to call Uber. Also, park and ride's card reader was down. Now I was prepared for any eventuality and brought cash in case there was a problem, but I hardly ever have cash on me to speak of, and usually, a broken card reader would stop me cold. I hate driving, though, and it was an excellent alternative to getting behind my own wheel.

I agree with pretty much everything the other reviewer said, with the exception of a couple of…read morethings... 1. the cost is now $10 round trip, regardless of whether you take Research, Sawdust, or Sterling Ridge... 2. The buses need repairing badly. I used to take the Sawdust P&R to downtown and my husband still takes it to the Med Center. He was on the bus that caught fire a couple of weeks ago, and lately the air conditioning in the bus has gone out before the bus has reached it's destination. When I took the Sawdust route there were a couple of buses that had seats that were falling apart (they were in the back) and could not be used. IMO these are completely unacceptable. For a $10 round trip, not to mention federal subsidies a couple of years ago, the district needs to prioritize to either repair or replace the buses for the safety and comfort of its passengers!

The Houston tunnel system is one of the great masterstrokes of genius in this the fourth largest…read morecity in America (on pace to surpass Chicago as third largest). This review which encompasses all portions and colors of the system, not just Red, covers the seven-mile network linking downtown's skyscrapers. The extensive system is diverse. In some places, there are shops and restaurants. In others, you might become mesmerized by the long halls and sterile fluorescent lighting that guides you on your way. Whatever the case, the tunnels are a wonderful workout alternative to the gym or club particularly when the weather is foul. Perfectly climate-controlled - this is the world's energy capital after all - you can find yourself cooled from the blistering summer heat above ground or nice and toasty during the few weeks of sub-tropical winter.

I've got friends in low places! I came here after hours to…read moreexplore these tunnels. I didn't think they'd really 'close,' and they didn't. But just nothing was open, I was walking through a hallway underground, partially lit, by myself. I felt it'd be a great opportunity to get mugged- nobody was around in these empty hallways. I felt like I wasn't supposed to be down there after hours- none of the interesting looking shops, food stands or anything much was open, other than parking and restrooms. You enter through sort-of nondescript doorways to go up and down stairways to these tunnels that look like they'd be great for when it's raining, or super hot outside. They're air conditioned. I wouldn't go out of my way to see these- it's sort of like a shopping mall pedestrian walkway underground connected various buildings downtown.

This review is more for the Metro Lift service and the main building. If you did not know but…read moreHouston Metro has a service call Metro Lift, it is for people who can not drive or walk to the closet bus spot safely. And this service is like ride share app, where they will pick you at the door and drop you off at the door. If you have a wheeler or in wheeler, no problems, you will get you in the vehicle safely and secure you safely. You have to qualify for the service and you have to go through an interview at the main building in downtown. I really appreciation the Metro Lift as it let me be independent on going to places in Houston safely and not relying on family or friends all the time. The downtown main building is also the Downtown Transit Center. You can also buy your Metro Lift paper ticket here and get a new ID here. Also getting my lost item back was painless and easy.

I love this bus service so much that it's making me feel Metro sexual…read more I've been riding it a lot lately though, and have had a few more negative experiences. But it's still a 4 star service, and when my car is out of action I'm very grateful for it. I wrote 2 different reviews for this, so here's the longer other one. Respect my transit authority! I know some would say I would be better off riding the Metrosexual Transit Authority, but I felt comfortable on this bus service too. Not literally comfortable though, because holy lack of suspension, batman. I've had a few bad experiences since the first time I thought Houston buses deserve a 5 star rating, but I'm still very grateful for them every time my car isn't working. Like I said before: Still one of the better bus services in the country. I've ridden NYC, LA, DC, Boston, Miami, and a ton more I can't even think of, and Houston is up there with my favourites. It's not as cheap as I think it should be, but then most bus services in major cities aren't. One of the best features of the Houston Metro is the awesome train that runs from the University area to downtown and if they could expand that to other parts of the city it'd be even better. Also Houston could use a really extensive subway system to ease the loads on its overstuffed highways. Most of the drivers are super friendly (and hit on my friend a lot, but then her pink hair is part of it), most of the buses are on time, and they send text updates to tell you when the bus is going to be along. I did have a couple of very aggressive bus drivers lately, but that's to be expected.
