I live in Atlanta but I believe in stimulating the economy when traveling. I was visiting the area…read morefor a funeral and had enough of funeral vibes, so, I escaped to the nearest mall. I'm a bougie woman from Atlanta and honestly had forgotten that Belk department stores are still operating. There is also a Dillard's where I got a cute Kurt Geiger wallet on sale, encountered three sales people in the handbag area and when I was ready to pay they went back and forth on who should ring me up. It was nice to have so much attention. I also found some really cute Chardonnay socks for less than a $2. There's way more independent stores than national brands and I wasn't in the mood to try on clothes so I passed most of those. They have a Claire's but no Victoria Secrets or Macy's. I just have to thank the mall heads that I live in the big city and know how great the mall can really be.

She literally had a what appeared to be a bed pallet, several blankets, bed pillows, food, and entertainment for the child who appeared to be less than 2 years old. And she had a perimeter set up so that folks would not get to close!!!! I was appalled that management (if there is any there), allows this sort of activity, where folks come to shop. I was actually out there for the sole purpose of "mall walking", and the temperature in the mall was hot!!!! With even more vacant stores!!!!! What prominent store/business would want to set up shop in such a declined, run-down place???? It is sad, sad, sad......

There are so few stores and lengthy hallways devoid of any retail. It does have some nice murals portraying the history of Auburn University. There are a couple of large department stores like Belk and Dillard's, as well as the B. Turner Clothing Store. But while the Dillard's feels modern, the dimly-lit interior of Belk feels like you've traveled back in time to the '90s, and B. Turner's is straight out of the '80s! The "food court" is less of a court and more of a hallway intersection that happens to have three restaurants. Two of these serve crappy Asian knock-off food and one is a Chick-fil-A. There is also a Great American Cookie place, and a country buffet deeper into the mall. There's just not much to see here, and that's exactly why the college kids call it the S'mall. But at least this small town has something.

Malls remind me of the joys of childhood, and I was thrilled to discover the Auburn Mall, nestled in Opelika, still thriving and full of life. The experience was refreshing. The stores were not only open but well-stocked with a great variety of products, catering to a range of tastes and needs. The anchor stores were bustling, their staff welcoming and attentive--a far cry from the ghost-town vibe some malls have these days. Perhaps the biggest highlight was the energy: people were buzzing around, shopping, chatting, and enjoying the space. It felt alive, a true community hub. I'll definitely make it a point to stop by again the next time I'm in the area. The Auburn Mall is a delightful reminder of real brick and mortar stores!
